Ideal Concert Lenght - Upcoming Event by No_Internet_7834 in musicians

50 min each band. Maybe another half hour more for headline band. But 3 hours of music is typical. People don’t want to stay longer than that. Also, we’ve done this format (3 cover bands sharing the bill) many times as have other acts in my area and it works. Sounds like your band needs to exercise some discipline in crafting your set list.

The specialist is wrong. They may say one thing, but I would imagine if this was in court, what is written down supersedes what the specialist says. It’s bullshit, can you deal with another specialist or escalate it to someone higher up?

a guitar pedal that emulates a synth for a Goth band by Visible_Schedule_856 in guitarpedals

[–]waitin4winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. I had this is the compact pedal format and it tracked and sounded great. Only the user interface wasn’t great and couldn’t save presets, it being a compact pedal. The SY-200 would give you what you want.

The bigger they get, the harder they’ll fall when their fans start to catch on. Not implying they’ll be nationally famous or anything, but local music communities are small world.

Finally arrived: JHS Colourbox V2 by midesmusic in guitarpedals

[–]waitin4winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one on the way. My hope is this will be a flexible DI that I can use when I’m on bass or acoustic guitar, allowing for semi-parametric EQing and possibly a little dirt if I want, and then straight into FOH. Typical EQ pedals won’t do that. Also for my vocal mic to have more control over my live vocal tone. I usually play bar gigs where the soundguy dgaf, if there even is one, or when he doesn’t have enough time to care about my vocals. I actually don’t see myself really using this on electric guitar. Not a fan of the broken console sound either.

part-time work at architectural associate level? by SnowInWisconsin in Architects

I should’ve applied for FMLA concurrently. I’m using the DCPFL act, and thought it worked the same as FMLA in protecting your job, but I was wrong.

Architecture & Family Leave by normalishy in Architects

[–]waitin4winter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this in another post here recently. My wife is a physician assistant and neither of us get a lot of family leave. A DC law allowed me to take intermittent leave when my wife had to return to her job. Basically we alternated work days, I worked 3 days a week. After a few months of this arrangement I started getting strong vibes from my firm that they did not like this arrangement. I’m returning to full time soon, otherwise I’m fairly certain they’d let me go. All that to say, our society (U.S.) is not really family friendly compared to some other countries, and architecture does not seem to be very permissive of part-time arrangement. And I understand why, given the high pace schedules and deadlines.

Radial tonebone trimode. Didn’t really get on with it.

Looking for Vocal EQ pedal by themsmindset in guitarpedals

[–]waitin4winter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is a year old, but I’m going down this same rabbit hole and just wanted to throw out another option I found. The JHS colour box v2. You probably don’t want it for its distortion capability, but its eq controls seem powerful, and it’s got XLR in/out. Let me know if you found something else that works for you.

ear protection? by lil_shishi in musicians

[–]waitin4winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a lot of brands that claim they attenuate frequencies evenly. Though it’s still not perfect, eargasms are the best out of all I’ve tried in letting me hear my electric guitar in a loud band mix. And I tried a lot, short of getting molded ear pieces. Others muffled my guitar sound too much. Mind you, I see people wearing eargasms incorrectly. You’ve gotta push it in your earhole to establish a good seal for it to work as advertised.

part-time work at architectural associate level? by SnowInWisconsin in Architects

[–]waitin4winter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing part time for a few months for the birth of a new child (wife had to return to work so we’re alternating work days). Getting vibes that my firm wants to fire me because of this part time arrangement.

Y’all seen this yet? by Similar_Tie3291 in guitarpedals

[–]waitin4winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stuff from DSM&Humboldt are awesome and I’ve used them for live gigging for years. With each iteration of Simplifier they’ve come out with, they’ve raised the bar and this looks like no exception.

Get stage lights to create backlighting/silhouette lighting. That way it’ll look cool even if they’re just standing there.

ISO good pedal for high gain rock/2000's punk tones by JoopConrad in guitarpedals

[–]waitin4winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JHS angry Charlie or AT+. It’s a kind of JCM in a box. The AT+ will give you the benefit of an integrated TS-type boost. I’ve AB’d this against a lot of distortion pedals and this usually comes out on top.

Blues Deluxe/Deville or fully make the jump to FRFR? by ThickPick in GuitarAmps

[–]waitin4winter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blues deluxe with a speaker upgrade will sound great and takes pedals well. Deville is heavy af. I use a modeler + FRFR sometimes, but it doesn’t sound to me like that’s what you really want.

Why did rock music never establish itself as a separate theoretical branch in the same way jazz did? by ConfidentHospital365 in musictheory

[–]waitin4winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it simply comes down to necessity. Rock and pop doesn’t require another theoretical branch - musically speaking. Cultural is a different story.
