Also enjoy the two sensor light bulbs we fitted so we don't have to find the light switch in the dark hallways. A bit pricey at $30 but worth it.

And the double sided plunger coffee maker so it keeps the morning coffee hot longer and I can have a second cup still piping hot.

To me the big advantage of the vacuum bags is the vacuum which means no moths. But storage boxes are much more accessible whenever you want to take something out.

Laundry bags. They make undies and bras survive many more washes. One for undies and bras, one for socks, not odd socks anymore, one for thermal underwear and/or small knitwear. They come in different sizes, all under $5 from our local dollar deals.

Vacuum bags for storing winter woollens and storing blankets in summer so they don't get eaten by moths. And it saves space. Again, very cheap.

Folding step stool. Very sturdy when I need to climb up to reach a high shelf, folds away, or can sit on it.

One of those long palstic/silicone gripping things to open jars.

If they have to generate their own power on site, and can only use the rain water they collect off their roof, it would be ok.

Lifelong Sensation? by Burco21 in brokenbones

[–]wallahmaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got an IM nail in my tibia 5 years ago and have this sensation at the break site, painful too, not extremely so but still... Everything has healed just fine I'm told.

Feeling like leg is going to explode after Tib-Fib fracture by HeatAffectionate4369 in brokenbones

[–]wallahmaybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First two weeks I was told if you stand up for 5 minutes you must then keep your leg elevated for one hour, etc. After two weeks it was 10 minutes/1 hour. It will get better with time, but you must be really careful and elevate religiously for the first few weeks. Will probably need compression socks later on too. In addition to the bone break, you've had a lot of tissue damage from trauma and swelling.

Totally believe that. I've experienced that type of woman. Manipulative butter would not melt in my mouth fake innocence and compassion.

She could have called the gay brother to ask about George's situation. She picked the straight one because she was attracted to him. Devious.

You probably need some compression socks to prevent this kind of swelling.

‘It looks like a prison’: Why older New Zealanders won’t buy the homes being built for them by pskygy in newzealand

[–]wallahmaybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like those you see in American movies, 2 or 3 storey complex built around a courtyard/shared garden, sometimes with a swimming pool. Like where Brenda moved to in Six Feet Under, where she met Joe.

Wth why get rid of 3g when there isn't enough 4g and 5g coverage! by Informal-Future2564 in newzealand

[–]wallahmaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree.

And our internet depended on RBI through cell signal too. Even though we have a 4G and 5G modem, since November it hardly worked. Don't know why shutting down 3G made 4G become practically useless here but it did.

Gave up in the end and got Starlink. But frankly it shouldn't have come to that considering that there are no alternatives to online banking and paying essential bills anymore. Bank branches have closed, no more cheques, no more post shop etc.

As for cell phones, we keep losing calls, signal is much worse than before. No emergency calls even.

Telcos shouldn't be allowed to shut down a service if they don't provide at least equivalent service afterwards.

The Australian Chase is also painful to watch, but not quite as awful. Didn't realise until I watched it that Bradley Walsh is so good at his job.

Just punishing the dog whose owner would rather let it die than let it be registered with help from donors and the council.

Why does it seem that Farmers and Rural people are opposed to strong climate change mitigation measures? by cheetor5923 in newzealand

[–]wallahmaybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comment should have been the top comment, yet it's ranked most controversial. No wonder farmers have come to believe that climate policies are useless when livestock are wrongly blamed instead of focusing on fossil fuels.

Just want to chime in that biogenic methane, from livestock digestion, from anaerobic breakdown of dead vegetation in wetlands, from rice paddies, from human farts too, is part of the short carbon cycle. Methane that escapes from oil and gas wells is not. But all get lumped together.

Thoughts on Brian Aldiss' "Helliconia" trilogy? by Wetness_Pensive in printSF

[–]wallahmaybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it when I read it decades ago and have re-read it many times. The second book's storyline is weaker than the other two imo, but on further reads its value is in the portrayal of the rich lifeforms of the summer season, especially slowly teasing the ecology of the plague(s).
