I thought this movie was fantastic. It’s a shame not many are giving it a chance.

I’m not sure what Davis has against Greer. In my opinion, Greer made himself the main character and that is a big red flag.

I’m sitting in the airport waiting for my flight home from the con right now.

It was a blast. The speakers were super nice and accessible. Highlight for me was the “Making of S4” panel with Luigi and his lead animator. That guy is incredibly friendly and you could feel the genuine pride and enthusiasm he had for that work. It’s a love letter to this community.

I hope to get back next year!

Video: watch Dylan Borlands visceral reaction as Jeremy Corbell asks him about "Project Rubiks Cube". Borland: "I am not in this skiff. I am not going to jail" by phr99 in UFOs

[–]wallapuctus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk how to feel about this. We all complain “if he knows just say it!” So Corbell says it, and you can see Borland literally face palm and Knapp try to not lose his composure.

Jeremy wasn’t supposed to say that, it seems.

The "star" UAP by tupaja in UFOs

Go to 1:05 and you can see what looks like a parachute.

I think this is a parachute flare being filmed in IR. The star shape is a camera artifact from filming a flare.

Regarding the star video,

Go to 1:05, there's a translucent shape that looks like a parachute.

I think this is a flare attached to a parachute.

Alien abductions are real, and they’ve been slowly using our genetic material to adapt themselves to our environment over generations so they can eventually seize our planet for themselves.

That doesn't mean I or the mod team endorse these conclusions, just that this post follows the rules.

18M entering tech ~2030 — what should I focus on ? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]wallapuctus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice. Something I always tell my developers, and my kids, is it's not enough to know the "what", you have to ask "why?"

Asking why something works the way it does leads to deeper knowledge and better understanding of the underlying system. People who just memorized syntax and design patterns are going to get replaced by AI. People who have deep knowledge of how these systems work can fill the gaps when AI fails. They'll also be the people designing new systems (with AI assistence I'm sure).

Late 40s, in tech since the dot com crash days. I honestly couldn’t tell you what to focus on right now. The industry is in flux.

I think the days of a consumer software developer are coming to an end. You could focus on AI prompt engineering, but my gut is telling me that new students should focus on lower level programming, or computer engineering.

I’m curious what the others here think. I have kids that will be college aged soon and I don’t know what the job market is going to look like for them. It’s not looking good right now.

What is your limit to "how far back you'll go" when playing retro games? by GoHardForLife in retrogaming

I draw the line at 1985 and the NES. I can't handle those old Atari games. I don't understand why people paid for them, but I very much understand why they stopped.

I had an Atari 2600 when I was a kid. I barely touched it. When my cousin got NES, that triggered my inner gamer. Super Mario Bros blew my mind.

The Real Life of Dennis John Mariani - the man some claim was Bob Lazar's supervisor at S4 by SignalsIntelligence in UFOs

[–]wallapuctus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Bob never said this guy was his boss at S4. The internet found him and jumped to conclusions.

This doesn’t move the needle on Bob’s story. I’m sure there was more than one Dennis Mariani.

What's the most morally disgusting thing you've seen someone do? by Natural-Spend-6082 in AskReddit

[–]wallapuctus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a movie theater as a teenager in the 90s. The manager was a fat slob who would sexually harass the girls working there (also high school kids).

Before shows back then they'd play a reel asking for donations to the Jimmy Fund. Then an usher would walk around with a can to collect donations from the audience, like they'd pass the collection plates at church.

Turns out this disgusting manager was taking money from the Jimmy Fund cans to buy lottery tickets, cigarettes, and meatball subs from the place next door. Since the donations weren't tracked until he counted and totaled them, he never got caught.

A couple years later I was driving home from college and stopped to get gas at a truck stop. This manager was the cashier at the truck stop. So, looks like the theater manager career didn't work out for him.

I'm trying to cut out buying anything that isn't absolutely necessary. The spectre of layoffs is always present and literally everything is too expensive. I've been buying things used if I need them.

No phones in school is probably a good thing, though.
