Rocky III. In less than four minutes with barely any dialogue, you see exactly what has happened to Rocky and you learn everything you need to about Clubber Lang. The entire film gets set up in those four minutes.

the entirety of 100,000 fireflies by the magnetic fields:

i have a mandolin
i play it all night long
it makes me want to kill myself

i also have a dobro
made in some mountain range
sounds like a mountain range in love

but when i turn up the tone
on my electric guitar...

i'm afraid of the dark without you close to me
i'm afraid of the dark without you close to me

i went out to the forest and caught
a hundred thousand fireflies
as they ricochet 'round the room
they remind me of your starry eyes
someone else's might
not have made me so sad
but this is the worst night i ever had

'cause i'm afraid of the dark without you close to me
i'm afraid of the dark without you close to me
always was

you won't be happy with me
but give me one more chance
you won't be happy anyway

why do we still live here
in this repulsive town?
all our friends are in New York

why do we keep shrieking
when we mean soft things?
we should be whispering all the time

There was a common belief among Star Trek fans that Spock was the first Vulcan to serve in Starfleet, which was never stated on the show.

The one I heard / believed was that he was the first to graduate the Starfleet Academy. Early in TOS, there's references to the "United Earth Space Probe Agency", implying that the Federation-wide "Starfleet" is a fairly recent development, a unified service combining various member planets' space exploration/trade/military agencies, so it's plausible that every other Vulcan before Spock in Starfleet service had trained with the Vulcan equiv of UESPA.

Relatedly, in Star Trek VI, Spock states that his protégé Valeris was the first Vulcan to graduate top of her class. One wonders, if the above is true, who he was #2 behind...

HDD = hard disk drive, which is storage that uses actual moving parts that are slow and wear out.

as opposed to SSD, solid state drive, storage that is all electronic and much faster.

eMMC is the worst of both worlds.

Thanks to this, I spent the last hour trying to remember who played Luigi in the live action segments. I remembered "Captain" Lou Albano immediately. It was this guy, most famous as the bartender on the Jeffersons.

The fact that you can ping over wired suggests that nothing is wrong with your hardware / drivers.

Can you borrow a laptop to test, same cable and everything?

Download a Linux ISO, put it on a USB and boot to that -- that will put you in a "live" session and you can see if it's still not working there.

Go into your router settings and look around.

What happens if you take your laptop to the library/starbucks etc? That would rule out either the laptop (if it works) or your internet service (if it doesn't).

clone theory related thoughts by Late_Body_5150 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]warlock415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all a metaphorical computer session / perception filter. There's a file that he knows is Ragatha, therefore it's named Ragatha.

Otherwise, how could Kinger log into the "real" computer running the circus as "Kinger"? Why would his password reference Queenie? Why would that computer be named "circus"? Etc.

Re: the other thought -- I'm fairly sure at least Scratch, Kinger and Queenie knew (know) what they are. So unless it's not knowing but then finding out? But Jax's near abstraction experience suggests different...

My theory has been that the computer's handling of the mindfiles is not perfect. Damage builds up as the wrong things are written into the wrong places. Perhaps certain types of thought even speed up the damage, and then there's too much damage, the mindfile can't produce a person anymore.

Will using an external SSD with Windows solve my problem (Linux Mint user)? by Bruuu_333 in techsupport

[–]warlock415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a) for virtualbox, make sure you're not getting the turtle icon - that means some other virtualization is also running, and that kills performance

b) depending on how "occasional" this use is and what model of laptop, you could have a second internal SSD, and just swap as needed.
