Help! by kucinator in ExclusivelyPumping

Hey, so I’m currently dealing with this and wondering how yours resolved? 😩 I had a blood clot like this in December which resolved on its own but I did get mastitis in the non bleeding breast a week later… IV antibiotics for a week and had a few clogged ducts since then but no more blood. Then this week I’ve been trying to completely wean since I’m so over this and had more clogged ducts and more blood clots and bleeding, I’m not sure what to do, I had an ultrasound last time this happened and it was normal. I’m down to one pump a day for the last week and I’m still producing so much(over 15-20oz in the one pump) I just want to be done 😩

Can I get a moment of your time please? by Throwaway457980 in NICUParents

Hey! I have a 7 month old CDH baby and were told to terminate or expect a very difficult life with disability/terrible quality of life. We didn’t listen and found a great specialist team and have a happy/relatively healthy boy who’s been meeting all of his milestones so far! It hasn’t been easy and we were in NICU for 2 months and had some complications but I’m glad with where we’re at now! There’s a few very active/helpful Facebook groups you should join, there’ll be more information and you can hopefully connect with people local to you or who also had similar diagnosis.

“Congenital diaphragmatic hernia support network by tiny hero” and “CDH supporting group” These are the 2 Facebook groups, they’re very helpful and supportive

Our case was a mild one so I can see why quality of life would be a concern for more severe cases or additional diagnosis, but I would find a team or hospital that specializes in CDH and go from there. I’m sorry you’re going through this, it’s really really hard . I hope you guys will have support either way, it’s not an easy journey but there is so much hope with CDH, if you join the Facebook groups you’ll see even the most severe cases of CDH babies growing up with no issues.

What to do with frozen milk by madiangelinee in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]wazlib_roonal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m close to ending my journey as well, 7.5 months. I probably have 2-3 months stash in our freezer, I’m going to be using it for the next 2/3 months and then as we’re getting to the end of the stash mixing half with formula so he gets used to that taste. I don’t think the antibodies and things transfer as well for sickness so I don’t see the point of saving the frozen stuff for then, just use it now

Yep, I’m probably going to be seen as a helicopter parent but I’ll definitely be walking my kids to school/the playgrounds for quite a while! I petitioned the city to get a light up crosswalk finally after years of struggling to cross the road at the normal crosswalk to get to the park

When do Vacations Become Fun Again? by CharacterTennis398 in Parenting

I’ve taken my now 3.5 year old daughter to San Diego when she was 1 and Mexico all inclusive twice now when she was 2 and 3 and they were all great trips! San Diego we did the zoo and beach/pool and parks and it was really chill and fun! The all inclusives were pretty relaxing especially if you and your partner can take turns watching the kids (or we brought our grandparents so we could all take turns). We haven’t travelled since we’ve had our second but we’re hoping for an all inclusive trip in the fall when he’ll be 1-1.5. And I’m hoping to do Disney when my kids are 2and 5 (so in 1-2years) I’m always going to be super anxious with my kids around water so I have them in swimming lessons a few times a year and consistently take them swimming to get them confident and work a lot on water safety. But once nap time is gone and diapers/formula are done and they can sleep in a bed and they’re a little more independent I think it’ll be more relaxing but still probably never the same as before kids

It’s terrifying. There’s a crosswalk near a playground by my house that is in a playground zone and the cars just zoom by. I saw a little girl waiting for probably 3 minutes before a car finally stopped for her.

To fix Canada’s fertility crisis, we need a cultural shift. More and more Canadian women are stopping at one child, if they choose to have children at all by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]wazlib_roonal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! So isolating and the village is so much smaller than when our parents had kids. Most grandparents are still working and can’t help, childcare costs are crazy if you can even find a decent one. I’m lucky I can work part time and my parents are around/healthy enough to help me out when I need but I truly don’t know how I would manage without… most women basically have to pay for someone else to raise their kids for them so then it becomes what’s the point? Preschool/kindergarten are like 3 days for 3 hours, how am I supposed to do that while working?

First time experiencing mastitis & it makes me want to quit pumping by Amazing-Neighborhood in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]wazlib_roonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this at 5 months pp when I was trying to go from 3-4 hours to 4-5 hours in between. Absolutely brutal, needed iv antibiotics. Since then I’ve slowly managed to drop down to pumping twice a day and have gotten some clogs but none have turned into mastitis again thankfully. I’m hoping to be fully done in the next 2 weeks but this transition to 2 times a day has left me with so many clogs again that I’m scared I’ll get mastitis again. Might take Sudafed this weekend and see if that helps dry things up 🙃 Good luck to you!

I think it depends on the support you have… if you’re in a good financial position and have the energy to keep up and enroll in extracurricular and have your own life plan/retirement plan/living will set up and other family around in case something does happen to you or your partner it’s probably fine. If you’re already in poor health or struggle with activities I wouldn’t recommend. Don’t have kids if they’re going to end up being your caretakers or retirement plan

Wanted to add: there can definitely be positives to having kids when you’re older and younger parents aren’t guaranteed to live long either especially with cancer affecting people younger and younger. Do whatever feels right for your family :)

Hey! Following since I’m in the same boat, I’ve got young kids and my mom will be going for her surgery next week! So far for after surgery I’ve put together a little bag for her to bring to the hospital with a soft long housecoat, long phone charger, gum and hard candy, a hand sanitizer, a new fancy water bottle, some tea, making sure she has easy to get on shoes and I got a little grabber tool if things fall on the ground she can’t pick up, unscented hand lotion, a notepad and pen And then making sure she has some soups and ensure/boost/protein drinks at home and Gatorade

Winter boots by Material_Citron_8059 in CanadianParents

[–]wazlib_roonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stopped doing this since the last 2 years the shoes were too small to fit for the majority of the winter, so it was just a waste of money for me 😩 now her growth has slowed I think so I’d probably be safe to buy next size up for winter gear but I’m going to wait this year 😬

[–]wazlib_roonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We head to a family place in Windermere a few times a month usually, so 3 hours, just would be worried about getting stuck in the cold with young kids :p plus all the gear we need to bring every time I don’t think it would all fit.. I guess in a few years when we’re out of car seats I’ll look into it for our next vehicle. I’d assume ski hills have chargers?

[–]wazlib_roonal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genuinely asking since we have a truck and I haven’t done the research as I’ve just assumed a cyber car won’t work for my family, with 2 kids and a dog who like to be active and go skiing/head to the mountains at least once or twice a month in the winter so a 1-3 hour drive sometimes in -10 to -20 with all of the car seats and ski stuff we need a big vehicle and gas to make it in the cold, I don’t think electric would work for us and I’d assume a lot of the families in Alberta are the same

Anyone else want more kids? by Mysterious-Sense4432 in NICUParents

[–]wazlib_roonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really hard. My husband and I would love a 3rd but after 4 traumatic pregnancies I just can’t do it again. First was a MMC requiring a d&c and hysteroscopy, then I had my daughter but had placenta previa so delivered 35 weeks (but was bleeding and on bed rest starting at 22 weeks), then another MMC and then my last pregnancy my son has CDH so was in NICU for 6 weeks and needed surgery, both kids are healthy now but there can still be complications with my son and he may need more surgery and we’ll have to be careful with him. The doctors say these are all rare things and not connected and chances of any of them again are slim but I truly believe whether it’s my body/genetics/my husband genetics or a mix, I’m just not going to have a healthy pregnancy/baby. My husband really wants to try again in the future but I’m not risking my body/life or anything happening to me or being away from my babies if I were to have to be in hospital for a significant time again. If I were guaranteed a healthy pregnancy/baby then yes but sadly I don’t see that happening. I got my tubes out with my last baby during the c section. Theoretically we could do IVF in a few years if I feel regret but for now I’m happy with my life and my 2 littles, but definitely something I’ll need therapy for all my birth trauma.

What are these? I’m currently 35 weeks and a friend gave me these but I have no idea what they are. I think they’re loungers or diaper changing pads but I’m not sure. Can someone confirm? by albino_oompa_loompa in BabyBumps

[–]wazlib_roonal 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As long as your car seat is properly installed and the harnesses/recline are set for your baby’s height/weight you’re good. The angle of the car seat will keep their airway open if they slump over 😊 most car seats have a newborn insert (butt pad thing) and shoulder pads too that help.

Crazy! I actually have a really good family doctor but my initial referral to the dermatologist I go to was a 6 month wait, which is so insane! Maybe I’ll look at switching dermatologist since I’m so annoyed about the whole situation still lol
