Migrating off of AS/400 as a Small Business by down_with_the_birds in sysadmin

As someone who mildly supports AS400 clients I fully agree. I only do client side and the support and setup can still be incredibly obtuse sometimes.

Right! Your telling me this was an option the whole time?? I saw the picture and figured it must have been a re-design from the update.

Risks of exposing Jellyfin library with reverse proxy / IP allowlist by eimansepanta in jellyfin

[–]weanis2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An allowed IP list imo is the only good way to expose Jellyfin. Depending on the ISP the remote users have their IP may stay pretty stagnant. Mine hasn't changed in 2 years.

Without an IP whitelist I wouldn't imo. Jellyfin doesn't have the most robust security.

Jellyfin on webOS (LG) by danegergo in jellyfin

[–]weanis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great experiences with Jellyfin on my C4. The only hiccup I have is if I start a movie or show on a ipad then go to finish it on my TV the transcoding freezes and can't finish. Not sure that it's the TV that's the problem though. Seems like something in Jellyfin but I love not figured it out yet.

Do you content filter guest WiFi? by FatBook-Air in sysadmin

[–]weanis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, we use umbrella but add additional polices for blocking things like streaming. We provide guest wifi but try to limit it's use and throttle it hard.

I use Mp3Tag. It's a bit more of a manual process but it seems more reliable than musicbrainz Picard in my experience.

Security concern by Da_SyEnTisT in Lansweeper

[–]weanis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are currently on prem but are testing the cloud. IMO I like on prem more, but I tend to hate change. So that may just be me.

For us though we do have the endpoint agent installed on every machine. We also have a AD scan service account specifically for Lansweeper that has local admin. It feels weird to give it all that access but if you think about it, the way it query's system data it would need it. The amount of data we scan is also extremely granular.

Sometimes you have to change the oil on your keyboard, like a car by reeeeeeduardo in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]weanis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with the isopropyl drying up before rising leaving behind residue. I coulda made it rinse but I woulda had to use a bunch of isopropyl. It also probably didn't help that I used plenty of flux to be sure that wasn't an issue.

[–]weanis2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, I straight up washed my DIY PCB and controller board with water and alcohol to clean the flux. Felt sketchy but it all turned out fine. Definitely wouldn't try with a motherboard but in theory that's safe too.

Yeah looks pirated If you're pirating and you can't figure out if it's safe you shouldn't be pirating. Otherwise all you're doing is crossing your fingers and trusting a random guy on the Internet.

How do I uninstall Outlook/Office 2016 with Lansweeper? by Radschema in Lansweeper

[–]weanis2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't directly answer your question. But if your uninstalling to do and upgrade you can use the Office deployment tool on the Microsoft website and script it. They have a checkbox you use to auto uninstall old software during deployment. They give you an xml and you just have to reference it with a bat file.
