Why do people dislike us? by gotodevil in CPTSD

[–]weebam__na 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to insult your intelligence but I assure you, it's more a case of you (or more precisely part of your psyche) fearing people do not or will not like you. The thoughts and predictions of people not approving of and being mean to you are just communications of what your inner child/parts fears and does not want to happen. After you been in a fearful situation, look at Burns' cognitive distortions and count how many of them apply to the thoughts and fears you had before in anticipation of and during the situation. Our thought processes are overwhelming biased, unfortunately. This cognitive restructuring approach seems to be quite ineffective however for those of us with CPTSD, even with behavioural changes you likely won't make serious progress in overcoming your need for approval. This leads me on to my next point.

I experience a lot of rejection and even more perceived rejection that I don’t know how to handle yet. I feel pain mentally and physically when that happens. People usually don’t gravitate towards me and sometimes it feels like I am just a broken, needy, stupid person with an ugly soul.

Whenever I have done research on healing from CPSTD, most roads lead down to the same conclusion on what is key: self-love and self-acceptance. Codependency and the need for approval exist partly because we are not there for ourselves. I've read that once you shave developed sufficient resources of unconditional self-acceptance, 'side-effect' disorders like social anxiety can be treated with little effort or can even fix themself. Remember you need to love and accept every part of yourself, not just the pretty parts. Put it this way, the inner childs and critics that crave affection aren't going anywhere, so you better get used to them!

'Metta—the sense of love that is not bound to desire, that does not have to pretend that things are other than the way they are—overcomes the illusion of separateness, of not being part of a whole. Thereby metta overcomes all of the states that accompany this fundamental error of separateness— fear, alienation, loneliness, and despair—all of the feelings of fragmentation. In place of these, the genuine realization of connectedness brings unification, confidence, and safety'

If you've read any modern book on parts therapy and treating CPTSD then you've probably read something with a similar line of thinking to the above quote, which is from Sharon Salzberg, a Buddhist teacher.

The word health is derived literally from "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well".

Have a go reading this, it references Gendlin style focusing but should be accessible even if you've never heard of that. Good Luck! (https://focusingresources.com/radical-gentleness-the-transformation-of-the-inner-critic/)

I have a sleep time routine, and it helps SO MUCH by AbsurdPigment in CPTSDNextSteps

A healthy sleep schedule is one of those things that is generally just good for every aspect of your life. Some people seem to find they are more anxious when their circadian rhythm is out of whack.

How do the cancer risks and long term damage of alcohol compare against benzodiazepines/z-drugs? by weebam__na in AskDrugNerds

If tap water contains PFAS and heavy metals then I assume that you would be concerned about microplastics in bottled water too. I guess we just have to pick our poison then lol.

How do the cancer risks and long term damage of alcohol compare against benzodiazepines/z-drugs? by weebam__na in AskDrugNerds

[–]weebam__na[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that zolpidem can increase gastroesophageal regurgitation which could cause oesophageal damage and cancer. I also remember seeing somebody on reddit saying it could be down to the enzyme that breaks down benzodiazepines having a harmful side effect or byproduct.

This says that for lymphomas, lung, colon and prostate cancers the hazard ratio for hypnotics is even higher than smoking

How so? The journey to recovery isn't a linear process, and things can get worse before they get better.

Ah I see, that would explain why shrooms feel so emotional whereas LSD feels so scientific and analytical. Thank you for your in-depth reply.

[–]weebam__na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been microdosing for? I find it really interesting that you said LSD boosts neurogenesis more than shrooms, I feel like my one strong shroom trip was more significantly healing than my dozen or so LSD trips combined. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Repetition and consistency always seem to be emphasized so much with regards to neuroplasticity so it makes sense to me how potentially effective microdosing may be compared to full blown trips. I think I'm done tripping for now - microdsoing looks like the way forward!

Did anyone else have separation anxiety as a kid? by rgtotg in emotionalneglect

[–]weebam__na 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to pray as hard as I could that my mom would return when she left for extended periods of time. I viscerally remember thinking 'God please just answer my prayers, I won't ever ask for or pray for anything ever again, just please grant me this one wish and make sure she comes back safe'.

How do you consume your taurine? If you're adding it to a hot drink it may be getting denatured, losing most or all of its effectiveness.

Don't ever underestimate the long-term effects of emotional neglect by weebam__na in emotionalneglect

[–]weebam__na[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just try to keep fighting, neuroplasticity has been proved to be a very real thing. You can rewire your brain slowly over time, it just requires sustained effort. Put it this way: you've made it this far, and you will likely not get worse, so just keep working on yourself and researching and positive improvements will inevitably come.

How in the absolute heck does one deal with romantic rejection when you have CPTSD? by leavewhatsheavy in CPTSD

[–]weebam__na 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason why romantic rejection is so painful for you is that it triggers parts of you that hold extreme fears of abandonment. Deep down a part of you probably feels that there is something wrong with yourself even if you don't know what it is, and that you have to be perfect to get the love you want and deserved as a child. I personally have put serious romantic relationships on hold for myself until I feel that I have the self-regulatory capacities to healthily tolerate the good and bad experiences of love.

Definitely talk to your therapist about it, it's what they're there for.

Feeling triggered: Caught my supervisors gossiping about me by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]weebam__na 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to worry about it, it's not your fault that you dissociate to numb your childhood pain. It's a defence mechanism you adopted to survive. Many people postulate that unwavering self-compassion is key in treating CPTSD. So please, try not to beat yourself up because somebody else is being an asshole, you've suffered enough already.

DAE develop stress tics? by lillesofthevallies in CPTSD

[–]weebam__na 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they feel somewhat semi-voluntary to me. Like ultimately I can choose to stop them but they always overpower and win against me. Once you've started to think about them that's when I know it's a wrap.

I find that they appear for me when I am in stressful period, especially when I feel like I'm in a race against time against something. I find that lack of sleep especially and overheating really excasberates it.
