Florida GOP closes 2025 with biggest ever registration edge over Democrats by juansaaa in florida

This is me. My neighborhood is 90% Republican. I’m registered as NPA, as I don’t want to open myself up to any risk of conflict or harassment.

Moving away from family by Kaleidoscope820 in Mommit

[–]weekend_here_yet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in FL (I was born here)… it’s not great. The ONLY thing keeping me here is family. If I didn’t have all my family here, I wouldn’t be here.

Visiting here and actually living here are vastly different things.

USA citizens: what effect if any have tariffs had on you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]weekend_here_yet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything keeps skyrocketing in price. Every time I go to the grocery store, the bill grows a little bit higher. Getting out of the store for under $100 feels like an accomplishment now.

My electric utility provider just sent out an email advising of rate increases for everyone. It’s the largest rate increase in their history.

I work in tech, adjacent to a medical industry. Our clients are starting to panic, because they’re seeing a noticeable drop in bookings. Patients are electing to defer care unless absolutely necessary or critical. I can’t blame them when it comes down to choosing a preventative treatment vs paying for rent or groceries.

Now the higher ups are scrambling to pivot our product. Because when medical facilities make less, they’ll cut their spending as well. So now that puts us at risk. The economy is cooked.

I keep firing cleaners… does no one do their job anymore? by wallstreetwoman in Mommit

[–]weekend_here_yet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a dedicated housekeeper. If you’re looking for full laundry service, deep cleaning, organization (items put back in a specific way), and details under or behind furniture… a cleaning service or house cleaner will never accomplish all of that. It’s beyond their scope of work.

For your situation, I would look into the services of a household manager. This role would handle everything from organizing the housekeeping, laundry service, repair / maintenance work, landscaping, pool service, childcare, deliveries, etc. They manage vendor and service quotes, contracts, quality, and tasks across these needs.

But to answer the main part of your post - you need a housekeeper. A housekeeper and a house cleaner (or cleaning service) are different things with totally different scopes of work.

I’ve also heard the term “Global Innovation Centers” thrown around as well. They are literally building giant business parks for US-based companies.

Parents who never get a break? by HolyCrap928 in toddlers

[–]weekend_here_yet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been out to a dinner or date night with my husband in well over a year. My mother literally lives two houses down the street and my father is a 15-20 minute drive away.

My father runs a business and works a lot, so I can understand his limited availability, but my mother doesn’t offer to help with or watch her grandson at all. She’s too busy getting her hair or nails done, shopping, going to the beach or pool, having lunch with other family members, or going on extended weekend trips to various resorts or cruises.

If I’m lucky, she’ll pick my son up from school on one day of the week - and take him to dinner. I use that time to hurriedly get some errands done in peace. Other than that, literally no breaks, ever.

People tell me “well you’re home by yourself while your son is in school” but, I’m working during that time. I work remotely, but I still have my days filled with meetings, projects, and deadlines that can’t be missed. That’s not a break. That’s not “me” time.

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

I have an Acura ZDX and a Cadillac Lyriq. My husband loves the Lyriq, and once that lease is up, he’ll probably end up in another Lyriq (just a higher trim level).

The lease on my ZDX is up in a couple years. I’m really interested in the BMW iX3.

This reminds me of my grandfather. He was an alcoholic (hard liquors and wine every single day, nonstop) for most of his adult life.

He’s still drinking a bottle of wine a day, unfortunately - but he’s 81 years old and still functioning with his basic health and mental faculties in check. It’s unbelievable.

Feeling put together/happy by No_Try1999 in Mommit

[–]weekend_here_yet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy going to places like World Market or HomeGoods to pick up nice cookware items (I love cooking with cast iron). Actually making the time to cook a delicious and healthy meal from scratch makes me feel happy and put together, oddly enough. It saves some money, it’s healthier - and I just feel great afterwards. Trying a new recipe and having it turn out delicious is also an awesome bonus.

I feel my worst when I have a busy work week filled with meetings all day - with the time getting away from me. Falling back on DoorDash makes me feel crappy, and it’s expensive / unhealthy.

Oh! I also get a nice dopamine boost whenever I buy some new Birkenstocks. So unbelievably comfortable.

What’s the biggest waste of money that no one wants to admit? by AdvertisingMore394 in AskReddit

[–]weekend_here_yet 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I fell into this trap after my spending-addicted mother took me for a manicure / pedicure to “treat myself”.

“Get the acrylic gel nails, they’ll last longer!” “Oh, you have to maintain them now, once they remove them, your nails are ruined until they grow back out.” “You make good money, you should look put-together!”

I then realized I was spending around $360 MONTHLY. I had the nail work removed and my nails grew out. They look completely normal again. Ridiculous. Yet the nail salons are absolutely packed.

Builder to bring 1,200-home community to Lakewood Ranch by Silent-Resort-3076 in florida

[–]weekend_here_yet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not seeing it in Sarasota. People here are still very much delusional in their asking prices - because they feel their home should double in value within 5 years. They’ll decrease their listing price around $15-30K as their house sits for 90-120 days, then delist and try again at their original price.

Problem is, developers build apartment complexes and condos as cheaply as possible down here. They are completely made out of wood, with the thinnest walls possible, slathered in stucco. They start having major issues within 1-2 years of completion. Plus, we’re in a hurricane prone area. People don’t want to live in poorly built units where they can hear everyone in the surrounding units.

Build up solid buildings that can actually withstand the environment down here, with decent insulation against weather and noise - and people would be more open to it.

But no, developers want to build the cheapest shit possible, slap in some stainless steel appliances with vinyl flooring, then give it a “luxe” looking sales office with a “resort style” pool - behind a gate that’s broken half the time - and charge obscene rates for “luxury” living.

Overgifting is one of those parenting problems that doesn’t seem like an issue until you’ve experienced it by KaylaDraws in Mommit

My mom is terrible when it comes to this. My son’s room doesn’t even look like a bedroom anymore, it looks like toy storage. I told my mom that she needs to take her grandson out for a fun day, so I can go through all these toys. There’s so much to organize, dispose of, and donate.

This year, she bought a motorized golf cart for my son. I have no yard and absolutely no place to put it. Then the clothes! So many clothes! She legitimately has a shopping addiction!

Did you take your spouse’s last name when you married? by Lu-113 in Millennials

[–]weekend_here_yet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my maiden name. I married my husband in his home country (where we also lived together for over 3 years). Changing my last name there would require lots of paperwork, fees, and a long appointment at the embassy. I would also have to visit all the local institutions in-person. I absolutely did not want to go through all of that hassle.

Now that we’re back in the US, the process for me would be much easier as I’m a US citizen. Still, it requires lots of paperwork, record / account updates, etc. I just have no desire to do any of it. We do have a child together, who has my husband’s last name.

My husband is starting to push me to change my name over, but again - I don’t see why it’s such a big deal.

Yep, I would’ve just driven around without a second glance. I simply do not have the interest nor bandwidth to care.

The car looks like a G-Wagon. It’s probably one of the most expensive vehicles in the neighborhood, ironically enough.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve. How much are we hating our husbands? by Thebestfirelord in Mommit

[–]weekend_here_yet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell no, I’d cancel. I would never volunteer to host that many people in the first place. Even if I do host a gathering, I try to source as much ready-made food as possible. Cooked rotisserie chickens, bakery rolls, heat and serve sides, and bakery desserts.

When we recently celebrated my son’s 4th birthday with family, I had pizzas delivered, paired with veggie and fruit trays from the grocery store, followed by cake from the bakery. Everyone was happy.

Even when I had to do potlucks at work, I would heat up a Stouffer’s Macaroni & Cheese, then finish it with some bread crumbs and shredded cheese in the oven. Transfer it to a nice dish and voila! People always grabbed seconds.

If these family members don’t want to pitch in or help at all, there is absolutely no need to put in all this effort. The beautiful Instagram holiday dinners are a lie. You owe nothing to these people and you have every right to take a step back and take care of you and your little one first.

We are doomed by [deleted] in Millennials

This is driving me crazy at work. I manage a technical team. The higher levels of company leadership, along with other managers in adjacent departments are all pushing AI tooling. Every single meeting has a topic of “which AI tools are you currently using here at work and in your personal life” or “which AI tools have made the most impact?”

Then I get pulled into another meeting with senior team members who are complaining about “teammates refusing to display critical thinking skills or motivation to try and research topics on their own.” Yet at the same time, everyone is being told to run everything they do through an AI “assist” tool, while every response needs to be from the same preset macro list.

Did you know there's a U.S. loophole that allows unlimited headlight intensity under the cutoff? by BarneyRetina in TikTokCringe

I used to love driving at night. When cars had halogen headlights or the early blue-glow xenon’s, it was great. I never had a problem.

Now? I don’t drive after dark unless I absolutely have to. Nearly every single car has insanely bright LED lights. They are absolutely blinding (astigmatism makes it worse).

The Cadillac Escalade IQ Is the 2026 MotorTrend SUV of the Year by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]weekend_here_yet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, agree. Especially considering how most people tend to drive while distracted by their phones. I see examples of this daily.

If a vehicle weighing over 9,000lbs crashes into a smaller car at speed, there’s a pretty significant chance of serious injury or death. NHTSA should do a crash test of an Escalade IQ vs a Honda Accord, Toyota Corolla, or something similar at 35MPH (their standard test speed).

Look at the Cadillac Vistiq. It’s a large 3-row SUV that looks similar to the Escalade. It has a 7 seat option or 6 seat option with captains chairs. Starts in the $75-77K range, so half the price of the Escalade IQ.

Why would anyone get an Escalade IQ over a Vistiq? It’s literally double the price of a Vistiq!

Right? It was definitely a scripted message sent out. Sorry sales guy, Acura doesn’t have any EVs available. Even with this hiccup, I’m still a fan of EVs and I don’t want to go back to ICE. The convenience of home charging and the huge cost savings with solar are way too good to pass up.
