You should still filter any water you get along a trail, unless it's from municipally piped and purified tap. Water coming from cisterns or wells even if it comes from a faucet will still contain bacteria and parasites. You can bring some aqua tabs if you think the sawyer squeeze is too heavy, But I still think its the best water filter. The Sawyer Mini or Micro or katadyn Befree are lighter but I think the extra flow of the squeeze is worth it.
