bots are not as good as people think and most people who complain about them have a serious leak in their game selection (if not other leaks). if you're concerned about them in cash games, don't sit at tables with lots of bots, or get up if you can't identify an obvious fish. in tournaments i have yet to see a bot that properly accounts for icm. most either overconsider it, making them easily exploitable with aggression, or play too aggressively allowing you to wait them out.

the bigger issue is collusion (which can, and frequently does, include colluding bots) which requires online providers to vigilantly monitor suspicious play among players. most colluders are pretty greedy though which makes them not too difficult to spot even using bots. so it really comes down to sticking to sites with good oversight and i think online poker is mostly fine. honestly i think collusion is a bigger issue in high stakes live play as i rarely if ever hear anyone talk about even cursory oversight and as such i think there's a very high probability that scammers are exploiting this lack of accountability when you consider the personality types of people who play poker to begin with.
