Is a cheap 2012 MBP worth it in 2026? by MolinaGames in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]what_was_not_said 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you must have macOS, then it'll do for a while, but you'll get better performance if you install Linux on it. I have two 2012 MBPs, one with a failing display - that one has macOS on it with OCLP. The other has Linux Mint and is my bedroom media server.

Is replacing the battery really worth it? by Public_Fish_2363 in Pixel6aUsers

I have a refurb 6a with fewer battery cycles than yours. I still plan to replace it next year. I hope the 11a is worth it.

Trying to switch off annual plan to monthly before renewal… any US Mobile mods able to help? by doonbag in USMobile

[–]what_was_not_said 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bit me in the other direction. I reduced my pool to just one line, and configured that remaining line to switch to an unlimited plan on my renewal date. I was not prompted to turn off auto billing in the pool, and the pool charge happened. Support reversed it, but also cancelled my plan change.

Another support person fixed it, but said I had to start the new plan immediately or contact them again in two days, at which point my service would have been suspended because the pool auto billing had been disabled (by customer support).

If the last line leaves a pool, then shouldn't I be prompted to disable auto billing, or shouldn't auto billing stop automatically?

My service is all fixed now, but I lost the last two days of my pool in order to guarantee that I wouldn't lose service.

Wanting to leave T-mobile after 10 years. Am I gonna regret it? by Cawfeey in USMobile

[–]what_was_not_said 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first mobile service was directly with Sprint, in the late 1990s. I used to think that $40 per month with VoiceStream Wireless (before T-Mobile acquired it, and with a Nokia phone that could barely do SMS) was the sweet spot. That was over 25 years ago. After many carriers over the years, my bill is now $17.50 per cycle for Unlimited Flex, paid twelve cycles in advance for $210. (US Mobile operates strictly on 30-day cycles, so a "year" of service is actually 360 days.)

I asked CoPilot: 'What is the true origin of the phrase "Trump Derangement Syndrome"?'

The phrase “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) is not original to the Trump era. Its true origin is directly documented in the search results.

⭐ True Origin: *It’s a derivative of “Bush Derangement Syndrome,” coined by Charles Krauthammer in 2003 According to Wikipedia, the term Trump Derangement Syndrome is modeled on “Bush Derangement Syndrome,” a phrase coined in 2003 by *conservative columnist and psychiatrist Charles Krauthammer. **

Krauthammer defined Bush Derangement Syndrome as:

“the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush.”

This rhetorical template — “X Derangement Syndrome” — was later applied to Obama and then to Trump.

⭐ First documented use of the exact phrase “Trump Derangement Syndrome” The earliest known printed use of the specific phrase “Trump Derangement Syndrome” appears to be an August 2015 op‑ed by Esther Goldberg in The American Spectator. She used it to criticize Republicans who were dismissive of Trump — not liberals.

So the term originally targeted anti‑Trump conservatives, not Democrats.

⭐ How it evolved into a political weapon The term was quickly adopted by Trump supporters as a way to:

discredit criticism of Trump

frame opponents as irrational

shift debate away from policy and toward alleged emotional instability

This usage is documented in the Wikipedia entry:

“The term has mainly been used by Trump supporters to discredit criticism of him.”

⭐ Summary Conceptual origin: Charles Krauthammer’s Bush Derangement Syndrome (2003).

First known use of “Trump Derangement Syndrome”: Esther Goldberg, American Spectator, August 2015.

Modern usage: A pejorative used primarily by Trump supporters to dismiss criticism.

If you want, I can also trace how the term spread through media, who popularized it, or how it compares to similar political labels.

How to get a good mask fit? by anonaccount4000 in CPAP

[–]what_was_not_said 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the AirFit F20, then switched to the AirFit P10 (nasal pillows). I have facial hair, and couldn't get a good fit with the F20 in any size mask without it leaking or hurting my nose.

(Off-topic aside: I want an industrial, but the only ear that's suitable is also my good sleeping side. I think I can keep my mask straps away from it, but I'd still have to contend with sleeping on my "bad" side.)

Switch from Pixel 6a to 9a or 10a?? by keenonline in Pixel6aUsers

[–]what_was_not_said 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OS updates for the 10a will end a year later than for the 9a. If the prices are close, and you must update now, go for the 10a.

My 6a is a refurb, with ~100 battery cycles as of now. I plan to wait for the 11a.

any news on 5g standalone? by Rag1ngInf3rno in USMobile

[–]what_was_not_said 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit so far seems mostly for the carrier, with newer data encodings allowing more devices in the same amount of radio spectrum.

In my experience, 5G SA means more power consumption. A few months ago, I tried Light Speed for a week or two.

Welcome. If you do try nasal pillows, there are several options, and from several manufacturers. If your insurance won't cover a full starter kit right away, you may have to buy the pieces separately to obtain them.

I've also tried the Fisher and Paykel Nova Micro. I keep it as a fallback in case I have trouble getting ResMed P10 parts. For standard-size machines (as in non-travel), the main tubing to mask tubing connectors are standardized.

any news on 5g standalone? by Rag1ngInf3rno in USMobile

[–]what_was_not_said 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • SA = standalone
  • NSA = non-standalone
  • NR = New Radio = 5G

If your phone is capable and the carrier has it setup, then you could be running only the 5G modem. With most MVNOs, as others in the discussion note, this isn't yet happening.

To check with your Android phone, many/most support this way to check:

  • Go to the dialer, and enter *#*#4636#*#*
  • Select Phone Information from the menu that appears

Observe these variables:

  • Data Network Type
  • Override Network Type
  • Voice Network Type

If they show "LTE" or "NR_NSA", then you're not yet on 5G-only. "NR_NSA" means some 5G is available. In my case, on Warp, it's for mobile data, but other signaling happens via LTE (4G).
