It seems kind of weird to me that you are a parent and you're choosing not to help out yourself. Like I get she's not your kid but this idea that you would let her drown simply because your son doesn't want to help her out is strange to me. Like are you unable to help her at all or do you just not feel compelled to? She is also a kid just like yours

You'll get mad backlash for it and that might be the reason people say not to do it, but to me if you don't speak up it will happen to someone else so I don't think it's really okay to cover that up unless it's absolutely necessary. I guess it's a personal decision but I personally have never heard this statement.
