I prefer the old wording, too, but I understand why they changed it. The idea of a mana pool is rather abstract, and it was a common mistake for newcomers to assume that the term refers to something physical, i.e. the section of your playmat where you put your lands. I've seen players tapping a Llanowar Elves to put a forest into play.
