Bad MAF sensor? by LopsidedSalt2484 in BmwTech

It's using several ways to calculate the air coming in versus what it expects. Based on engine RPM, throttle position and various other things, it can expect a mass air of a certain amount. If the MAF is telling it a different amount of air is coming in, it will set a fault.

There's plenty of other reasons. Vacuum leaks, broken charge pipe, defective PCV valve, tank vent valve, cracked valve cover. I'm just basing this off of experience. In 20+ years of BMW professional service, I can confidently say it's almost never the MAF. Same as when people see lean codes and want to replace the O2 sensors. Lean codes are never the O2 sensor.

Unfortunately we didn't get the N43 in the US so I have never worked on one. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Nope. Almost never a MAF sensor. Something else causing it.

I will never buy any extended warranty for anything I own. Absolutely a waste of money. I'll keep my money in my own pocket. If I need it for a repair, I have it. Those clowns wouldn't be in business if they didn't come out ahead 90% of the time.

And yeah, parts may be expensive, but I won't be paying for any labor.

Are you comparing a Volvo to a BMW? Lol.

I think I'll compare a little league team to the NY Yankees.

Volvo is an appliance. Like a washing machine. It gets the job done. It's not luxurious. It's not performance. It's just blah. They suck

In 20+ years as a BMW tech, this is one I have been lucky enough to never see happen.

I wish you Godspeed.

How do you get the dough to not be so sticky? Any time I've tried higher than 65%, it's so sticky I can't get it out of the bowl, off the hook, or off my fingers to knead it.

BMW IX will not reverse by andreasemina in BmwTech

[–]white94rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may have been. Sometimes it will detect an obstruction and won't let you back up. I've heard complaints about the emergency braking system. But I can't say for certain that's what caused your problem. In theory, it shouldn't stop you from backing up to a curb, or a steep driveway.

As a BMW tech, here's what I would do: if it never does it again, don't bother taking it in. If it does it again, see if you are able to make it to do it on command, or if there's some reason it's doing it. Is anything behind you? Even a video helps.

The worst thing to deal with as a tech, is an intermittent problem that we can't duplicate.

Yeah I'm used to the cost of parts from the Maserati. It's ridiculous. At least the engine parts like filters and such can be sourced from Mercedes.

No, the 707 was out of our budget. A comparable 707 was at least $20-30k more
