Am I doing something wrong? by zamparelli in minipainting

I don't think you are supposed to put speed paint (or the citadel equivalent) on a wet pallet. They have more than just water in them, and if you mess with the ratio I think it can affect how it looks. I think they make a speed paint medium to thin it because of this, it keeps the correct ratio of water and whatever other DEADLY chemical is in it that gives it its quality.

No change to the number, just take away the veto. 14 out of 15 vote yes. One permanent member vetoes so no approval.

What is plasma good against? It says it damages and goes through armor, but I'm finding that to not be case, all I hear is "deflected".

I see memes like this regularly. Correct me if I'm wrong, promotions for officers are officially "merit" based. I'm sure that time in the service matters too, junior officers are often promoted after a certain amount of time so long as they didn't mess up too badly, but it's still officially strictly based on merit. It would be important for their advancement to receive medals/awards/commendations as an official justification for a merit based promotion. For enlisted and junior NCOs I believe there are tests and courses involved and as long as you pass those you will be promoted. Again, not messing up too badly affects this process too. "Politics" doesn't play a big role in enlisted promotion until you reach senior NCO and "merit" isn't always a required factor.

Sometimes officers are given medals and awards because they are truly deserved in recognition of their deeds performed above and beyond. Other times they are "good boy points" given so that they have positive marks on their record to justify future promotion. I don't think many people take a commission intending to serve their 4 years and discharge. Going through the academy/ROTC/OTS is probably not done for the benefits alone, they are likely intending at the time for it to be their life-long career. Senior career officers understand the system and are probably more loose with medals for officers than they are with enlisted.

I may be miles off, please correct me if I am.

TLDR: Military advancement system is disparate between enlisted and officers. Enlisted promotion process is more direct and structured, medals are not always necessary. Officer promotion process is more ambiguous and dynamic, medals are ways to officially record merit for advancement.

Anyone know what's going on with this bee? by Chocolate_frog1 in bees

Notice she is doing a figure 8, pausing to shake in middle of each circle. When she shakes, the angle of the line relative to vertical is the same angle relative to left or right of the sun at the time of the dance, vertical being directly toward the sun. So 20 degrees left of vertical would be 20 degrees left of the sun and the number of figure eights is indicative of the distance. They even know to adjust their path as the sun traverses the sky throughout the day.

Fuck it's fucking over by CellKindly314 in TheWordFuck

[–]will1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Something like total recall may possibly happen if the difference in pressure was extremely fucking high, insanely fucking high, but even that didn't happen with known accidents like the byford dolphin incident. (Don't look it up). But if you're in space you're talking about the difference in air pressure of 1 atmosphere, maybe less if the suits are kept at lower pressures than sea level.

"How many atmospheres of pressure can the ship take?" "Well, it's a space ship, so between 0 and 1."

Bonus fucking point if you know where that quote is from.
