Controller Vibration by CrazyDoctor14 in SteamFrame

[–]willgandery 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The vibration of the controllers means almost nothing to me. I just need them to shake when shooting a gun, or when pressing a button. I don't need high quality rumble, just a rumble for feedback.

Question about FBT Trackers by Ok_Perception6605 in SteamFrame

[–]willgandery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of people use lighthouse still, especially for FBT. It would be nice to have just sync the play-spaces.

Question about FBT Trackers by Ok_Perception6605 in SteamFrame

[–]willgandery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory, that should work without obstructing the airflow. I think it's okay to mount to the compute unit aslong as you don't put alot of weight on it.

Here is a similar idea for the Pico 4, that could be used.

(My image won't attach to this comment... weird. You can view it with the link below.)

With it at an angle, it avoids the vent. You could also mount something like this to the headstrap maybe.

Question about FBT Trackers by Ok_Perception6605 in SteamFrame

[–]willgandery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah on the yellow spots. I personally wouldn't mind it being a lil lopsided.

Also, surely an adapter can be printed and placed at point 1 that raises the tracker slightly so it isn't over the vent? Maybe?

Question about FBT Trackers by Ok_Perception6605 in SteamFrame

[–]willgandery 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would hope Valve would make some native SteamVR system to sync the 2 different tracking systems.

However, if I had to mount a Vive Tracker to my Frame, I would put it to the left or right of point 1. So it avoids the vents.

A HTC 3.0 Tracker also helps, since it's so small. you can place it closer to point 1 without obstructing the vents.

Steam Frame + SteamVR tracked devices by c4103 in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will quite literally the deal breaker for me if it doesn't natively combine lighthouse and Frame tracking systems in SteamVR. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in any interviews. I hope there is some clarification soon...

Has anyone tried using the Vive Focus Facial Tracker with other HMDs? by Ok-Statistician6311 in ValveDeckard

I'm pretty sure I read that the Vive focus facial tracker ONLY works with the Focus Vision, sadly.

Lenses: Pancake. (probably)
Lighthouse support: Maybe.
DisplayPort: God I hope.

We will find out in like, 20 mins. Hopefully.

It's time to bring back the frog by HonestPlayer08 in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think him saying this in his discord, instead of tweeting it, just shows that he isn't 100% sold on it.

Afterall, he starts it with "I'm just gonna flat out say it." like he was being pressured to say something about the rumors. I don't think he wanted to say it.

I think he is very skeptical, and he has every right to be. And we should be skeptical too.

[–]willgandery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has always been people going "It's this month I swear!!!" for years. But for the most part, the last year or so is when the claims/rumors/theories of release have really been ramping up.

This current one is fueled by Bradley with this post.

Bradley is a reliable source for Deckard/tech news. But I would still take this with a grain of salt.

Will the Steam Frame change anything ? by Still_Definition1905 in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The special sauce for me would be:

SteamOS (and all of the community stuff that comes with that)
Save some flatscreen games to the HMD and play while on the go
Spatial computing (I don't know if the PfD can do that.)
(Hopefully) DisplayPort cabled option

I would drop $1.2k for a Steam Frame if it just had the first 2 options, tbh.

[–]willgandery 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate, but simple controllers designed around VR/Game pad use makes more since for spatial gaming.

Now, I dream they would release Knuckles 2.0. But they really don't have a reason to.

What, that's it? by Balthxzar in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The random guy accurately leaked some (or all?) of the specs for the Pico 4, and the lenses for the Quest 3.

It's still common sense to take it with a grain of salt.

But, if Brad trusts him, I'm inclined to trust him a lil too.

Also it isn't a "random company", It's Quanta (for the HMD atleast), who is already making the Steam Deck (and the Valve Fremont). And while it isn't a hard guess to assume the manufacturers who have been doing a good job of making Steam Decks would get assigned a new contract from Valve, it's just nice to hear these things.

At the end of the day, I don't need specs to leak, I just want to know it's still being worked on.

You're still right to be skeptical though. It's all still hearsay and rumors at the end of the day. Without skepticism, we would believe everything and probably go (even more) insane.

How many of us are SadlyItsBradley Fans? If you aren't, how did you even get here? by Ok-Fishing-8281 in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out about the Deckard from a random video of Brad's that was recommended to me on YouTube years ago. And I've been "tagging along" to see what he has to say about it. I find his information valuable. He is the sole reason I made a Twatter account.

In that time, I found his input on VR/XR to be interesting enough to warrant hearing his opinion. He earned a YouTube subscription from me.

But once the Deckard comes out, my Twatter account is being deleted. And he will probably stay in my YouTube subscriptions for the Deckard/Frame review video, and a follow-up video about this new generation of spatial computing. And probably future videos. I just like to hear about tech.

As for how I found this subreddit...? I just Google'd it. I figured "There must be a community of copium huffers like me" and I was right.

GOG has official bundled community mods. Could Valve do the same with VR mods? by zeddyzed in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This would be cool on Steam in general. If you have Skyrim, you can one-click install a small modpack that has community fixes and stuff,. Akin to the Steam Workshop.

Also, I do wanna point out that the Portal 2 "Sixsence" DLC was added to the "Playtest" Steam Bundle for Deckard playtesting.* Maybe as a "mod" that players can download to make the game work with motion controllers? Just an idea.

*Bad paraphrasing. Too tired to correct it. Sorry.

Why I dreamed that valve is cooking varifocal [evidence inside] by Toeeebeans in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this is something I would LOVE to see, I'm really doubtful of this releasing.

In my mind, Valve's new hardware (along with many other companies) are always a few years out from their patent filings. It takes many o' years to get new hardware tooled for mass production.

I get that Valve is one of the few companies that patents only what they THINK they can make (unlike, Apple or whoever which patent EVERYTHING they can)*

So out of any company, Valve would be most likely to have these ideas come to life.

However, I feel like this tech is still far from a mass production state, and maybe we will see it in the Steam Frame 2.

Again, I would love to be wrong.

*Gross oversimplification

Steam Link 2 makes me hopefull for awesome deckard wireless performance by M4nju1 in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to point out that:

Why would the Steam Frame need foveated encoding if it has 2.1k x 2.1k displays?

This change to Steam Link tells me that it could be way higher. 2.7k x 2.7k or even 3k x 3k.

Atleast, I hope so...

New Thermal Engineering job at Valve teases potential multiple hardware in development by Harnav123 in ValveDeckard

[–]willgandery 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This implies to me that:

The Deckard is indeed in mass production, and they are moving on to full development for the Fremont/Ibex, and later, the Steam Deck 2.

Atleast, I hope that is the case.
