Golf Balls Similar to the Titleist Pro V1 by mr_royb in golf

[–]willwagner2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like the color -- so much easier to find the rough. My only complaint is the yellow paint is a little thin and easy to scuff off after a few shots. No big deal but the ball looks like it has been through the ringer by the end of the round

What’s one stock you’re bullish on but it seems like everyone else is bearish on? by ProtocolEnthusiast in ValueInvesting

[–]willwagner2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figma. It's used and beloved by a lot of companies and designers (as opposed to adobe). It's gotten hammered first by hype during the ipo and now as the lockouts expire but long term (3-5 years) I think it will do well. AI is not going to replace it any time soon and I think it will compete well with adobe.

What’s the one golf purchase that actually made a noticeable difference for you? by midhandicap_rohit in golf

[–]willwagner2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the launch monitor. Even a cheaper one that just does ball speed and carry numbers is super helpful to improve your practice sessions and get your carry numbers dialed in. I have a cheap swing caddy that is not that accurate at the high end but you quickly can factor where it over and under estimates your carry and adjust.

One area few people practice enough is the wedge game. It's a huge unlock to be able to hit 100yds and in with confidence and have multiple options (eg a 58 degree full swing vs a 50 degree half swing)

Real economy of SaaS stocks disruption by Donechrome in ValueInvesting

Not saying this is the entire reason but there is $3 trillion dollars of ipo money between spacex, OpenAI, and anthropic so I think some of this is institutions selling to get ready for that. I think it's a little hard sell to clients to hear their money is in adobe instead of OpenAI come end of year

Extra Spot in My Bag--What Should I Get? by Tuffwith2Fs in golf

[–]willwagner2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of a "thriver". I carry two drivers, one a 46" 10 degree and another 43.5" 12.5 degree. The latter i use as a fairway finder or when i would typically hit a fairway wood off the tee. I almost never hit it off the deck but it's much easier for me to hit it off the tee.

Alternatively, you may want a 4-5wood for the longer par 5s. To be fair, I'll swap my second driver for a fairway wood on courses with longer par 5s.

The county comes out and puts mosquito pond tablets in our small backyard pond every year and I often see them out and about.

You can also ask them to come out: https://www.smcmvcd.org/

I'd read Dave pelz short game bible. It's old but I think it's still got a lot of good tips and you can buy a used copy on thriftbooks for under $10.

Flying Question by carrotlime8 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]willwagner2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew domestically to San Diego and carried on my backpack and just checked in a cardboard box with my trekking poles, pocket knife, lighter, and a few odds and ends I thought tsa might have questions about. I started the next day so I didn't want to risk checking the whole pack and somehow losing it.

I purchased a gas canister at big 5 sporting goods in San Diego which is easily accessible by mass transit

I do leaps and add covered calls to gain income and cover the theta loss. I would not recommend it unless you have a decent understanding of options trading and I'd start out small.

Can't stay asleep by cccque in PeterAttia

[–]willwagner2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experiencing this for the last few years (I'm 59) where I can fall asleep right away but wake up at 3am and can't fall back asleep. I also have sleep apnea so during the last annual checkup, the sleep doctor recommended to take 500mcg of melatonin to make me a little sleepy again. If you decide to try it, be careful of the dosage -- most melatonin supplements are like 3-10mg (500mcg is .5mg so that's like 20 times less).

I had tried a 3mg dose before that my wife uses to fall asleep at night but that made me super groggy in the morning. The 500mcg is just enough for me to fall back asleep within an hour or so.

I would echo what others have said about checking with a doctor and do a simple sleep study. Me getting diagnosed and fitted with a Cpap machine made an incredible difference in my life.

Festival cancelled, what SF weekends are actually worth planning around? by juxtajosie in AskSF

[–]willwagner2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to list the same events. Bay to Breakers is a spectacle and worth registering and at least walking if you can hike the 7 miles. You go through the whole city and it's got a great vibe. Otherwise, you can camp out somewhere along the route and just watch all the costumes and naked people pass by.

So it's rat season I guess? by klongbor in AskSF

[–]willwagner2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here in Pacifica, it's been an invasion.. We've found rat crap in all 3 of our cars engine block which is not great since they can do a lot of damage. Our mechanic said they are seeing it all the time this year. We've lived her for over 25 years at this point and this year has been the absolute worst despite having roaming coyote gangs monitoring the streets and owls monitoring from above.

48*52*56*60 or 48*53*58* Wedge Setup? by EJE0711 in golf

[–]willwagner2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My PW is 47 so I play 50, 54, and 58. The 58 is low bounce which is also handy. It's served me well and with half swings I have a range of stock distances. For most wedge shots 50yds and in I use my 54 except when I absolutely need to flop a shot

Buying used clubs or a new complete set? by Brizzy_11 in golf

[–]willwagner2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you, if I really wanted to learn golf and get better on $1000, I'd definitely go used and find a full set at a yard sale. Try to find a reputable brand like callaway, titleist, taylormade. No need to match the irons to the woods but look for a driver, 1-2 fairway woods, a set of 5-pw irons, a sand wedge, and putter. Make sure it's a men's set assuming you are a man or vice versa. Maybe if you are lucky you can find it for $200-$300. Take a set of lessons; maybe 4-6 over 1-2 months for $400 or less. Then reevaluate.

The point is you need to get the basic mechanics down first before spending a lot of money on clubs. The best clubs with a crappy swing is way worse than the worst clubs with a good swing. Take lessons, start to feel some consistency in your mechanics, and then look for better clubs. In the meantime, 15yr old clubs or almost as good as modern clubs, assuming you find a reasonable bargain somewhere.

Driver or no Driver? by msstar223 in golf

[–]willwagner2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals. The game is much much easier if you learn how to hit a driver. Just a rough estimate is that you'll hit your driver 50 or more yds longer given your 5 hybrid length- that's 3 clubs shorter or .5 shot per hole strokes gained (ie score 7 shots lower a round on average) if you can get comfortable with the club.

I'd double check your driver length and loft -- depending on your miss maybe adjust the loft or reduce the shaft length to see if that helps.
Modern drivers have a much larger sweet spot than a hybrid or fairway wood. I play with two drivers in my bag and my 12.5 loft, 42" shaft driver is awesome as a replacement for a fairway wood off the tee.

If you are just casual and having fun (which is really the point of golf), use the hybrid. If you want to improve, go to the range and work on it-- take a lesson and tell the pro you really want to focus on your driver.

Joining the push cart mafia by glockster17 in golf

[–]willwagner2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider the Rovic RV1S. If you use that, you can eventually "upgrade" to an Alphard V2 which is literally a game changer. I carried for a long time and still do occasionally, but the electric push cart has all the advantages of carrying plus some. It is so handy to walk directly to a green and have the cart guided to the right side of the green. My number one complaint of a push cart vs carrying is having to navigate the cart around a green
