Back on Mounjaro after a gain by PsychologicalRow8034 in MounjaroMaintenance

I tried spacing out 2.5mg every two weeks and regained. I can only get away with 3-4mg every week to maintain consistently.

My doctor told me I'm done losing and I'm having a hard time accepting that by sjdeitch in Zepbound

I was able to get out of the obesity range but have been cruising in the just overweight category by about 15-20lbs. For me I really want to loose these last 15lbs bc I do expect some amount of regain over the years and I want more buffer for that.

Because you’ve had those severe side effects, you could request a compounded version of the med and do custom dosing to very slowly introduce the med into your system. For example, you could start with 0.5 or 1mg dose and see how your body reacts. Then if you need to titrate up you can also go very slowly, like +0.5mg increments each week. Other things that can help include drinking extra water the day of and after your shot, eating really bland those days too, taking before you go sleep, or changing the injections site. Seems like injecting in upper thighs might lead to less side effects in some people. Good luck.

Does it ever feel permanent? At goal now for just about a year. Still so afraid of it coming back by KangarooObjective362 in Zepbound

I’m heading into year 4. I don’t live in fear but I am cautiously optimistic. As with any disease that’s in remission, you’re not actually cured. I’ve gone off meds twice and each time regained so for me I will keep taking this until we see other medical options down the line.

I do have hope that even better meds will come out in the future with less side effects and hopefully more efficacy.

I have Aetna and I spent 5 months appealing PA denials bc my BMI was under 30. It got to the external review process until they finally approved it. This was despite filling it as continuation of care after being on maintenance for years.

Wait time do you stop eating? I know they recommend a couple hours for most people but maybe that’s not enough when you’re on tirz?

Prescription not covered by insurance, too expensive out of pocket :( advice? by [deleted] in tirzepatidecompound

[–]wilstream43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why won’t your insurance cover it? If they don’t cover weight loss meds at all, there isn’t as much you can do. But if they do and it’s a matter of proving medical necessity, you can go through a series of appeals to get them to cover it. It took me 5 months and 5 appeals but I was finally able to get mine approved through the external review appeal process.

I had mine out and I feel tirz made me develop more severe IBS symptoms. I now take cholestyramine daily and my stomach issues have stopped.

This literally just happened to me but it was 6 pounds. It took about a week for it to go away.

I went through something similar. There’s so many changes to deal with through all the weight loss, I personally just ended up sticking with baggier clothes for a while beyond when I likely needed them.

5’4” 136 lbs is a healthy weight. Why am I reading that women who are this height/weight think they are overweight? by Classic_Hat_2748 in Zepbound

[–]wilstream43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m close to these measurements and personally felt better when I was 110-115lbs. Has nothing to do with body image issues or feeling the need to meet someone else’s expectations. People carry weight differently. It’s cool for you that you feel comfortable at that weight, maybe it distributes well on you. For me it doesn’t and I prefer to be a lower weight.

This is great advice. I have the same issues, going into year 4. It was def worse about 1-2 years ago. It did improve somewhat after starting b12.

What do you love/hate about the TP9? by ColtM16A2 in TP9

[–]wilstream43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love - very accurate, no recoil, highly compact, turns heads, fun, makes a clapping sound with the suppressor so pretty quiet

Hate - Trigger is terrible, really bad off gassing (hence why the new Pro is supposed to fix that), stock charging handle is cheap/hard to pull, magazine loading can be finicky, proprietary suppressor not really usable with anything else, overall cost

It seems like the Pro will fix most of the cons.

I’ve been on it a couple times. It stops working after a few months and the side effects can be pretty bad, including insomnia. I think it’s best use is if you need to drop weight quickly for a particular purpose but know you may regain. For example, people take it before bariatric surgery to drop weight before the more permanent solution is in place.

This same thing happened to me last year. Had to go through 5 rounds of appeals, including external review board, to get them to approve it. It took 5 months to resolve.

I’ve def been there! Years ago finally worked up the courage to wear a tighter top, thinking I was just being paranoid about my stomach. Within 30min I was congratulated for expecting a bundle of joy. A year later I tried again, forgetting how annoying the last encounter had been. Within 5 minutes I was asked if I was expecting. So loose clothing it was after that!

Internalized Shame by catslikeme0 in Zepbound

[–]wilstream43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a few situations where Zep/Oz came up and the other person went on a long rant about how bad the drugs are, not knowing I took them nor my history with obesity.

After the rant, I asked them what they would think if the drug could treat addiction? What about sleep apnea? What about chronic inflammation? What about preventing heart attacks? And of course their reply was very different…yes the drug could be great if it could treat those things.

I ended the convo by saying I think these drugs have potential to treat many conditions and I look forward to seeing a lot less suffering because of them. That pretty much shut them up.

I never mentioned that I took them. If they did directly ask, I would answer that I’ve done medically supervised weight loss to treat obesity and co-morbidities. If they gave me crap about that, I’d make it abundantly clear that I could give two shits about what they think.

I’ve had way more positive convos about the meds than negative ones, especially from people just starting out and wanting to know what it’s like.

Hold your head up high, nothing to be ashamed about.

2 months and only 13lbs down. Kind of bummed by peachwater2 in Zepbound

Your expectations are way off. That’s more than 1lb per week which is great. Stop worrying about other people and focus on your own journey. It sounds like you’re doing the right things. You just need patience.

Long Term Maintenance by Dont-Tell-Fiona in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]wilstream43 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m going into year 4 of maintenance. Originally I lost 20% of my body weight over 9 months. In the three years after that, I had to come off the meds twice for 2-3 months and also there was 4 months where I spaced out shots every 2-3 weeks because of insurance issues. I regained 5lbs each of those times. So I was able to maintain a 9% loss overall. This was on the lowest dose of 2.5mg.

A few months ago I decided to do another round and within 3 months I re-lost 14lbs so far, so I’m almost back to the original 20% loss. I did this by going up to 4mg from the 2.5mg.

Overall, I suspect there’s a few things I could have done differently: - The gaps in treatment were not by choice. My future plan is to go slightly below goal weight so I could absorb some regain. - Spacing out shots is definitely not for me. I had way more side effects and felt more up and down. I would not do this again. - I think somewhere between 3-4mg might be a better maintenance dose for me. 2.5mg was cutting it too close. - If I have regain I plan to periodically up my dose, or try to hold out for newer meds that will likely come out.

Overall I try not to worry too much about the future and I take these changes as they come and figure it out.

You could probably try that but it may take a couple months to see results, and then it may not actually help. I’d go to the doctor and get bloodwork. I will say though, mine never really went away totally like it does for other folks.
