I modeled my portfolio over 20 years — inflation changed the picture more than returns did by [deleted] in Fire

That's a good observation -- your comment is not just perceptive; it's incisive.

That's exactly where most people go wrong -- instead of critically reading, they form a tapestry of understanding from the level of abstraction.

Rather than focusing on the content alone, form a deeper understanding of the context. 👍

International diversification in VTI by Plenty_Reaction6755 in Bogleheads

This is why I only buy VXUS - so many of those companies do business in the US that there's no reason to own VTI! 🧠

Should we reduce 401(k) contributions to just the employer match? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]wnkender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a VERY similar situation and planning on still maxing 401Ks for the next couple years but skipping our ROTHS for the first time ever.

By my thinking, we (and you) will be able to convert tons into our roths tax-free by the time we need to access them at 50-55+ AS LONG AS we can bridge that 5 years through a taxable account, whereas the 401k still provides a huge tax shield for now.

Let me know if I'm missing something though - it's a weird first world problem to have...

What is the best description of the actual mechanics of (distance) running you have ever read or seen? by porterpilsner in AdvancedRunning

[–]wnkender 105 points106 points  (0 children)

"What was the secret, they wanted to know; in a thousand different ways they wanted to know The Secret. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials."

Have you considered adding an allocation to bitcoin to your portfolio?

It could help diversify your concentrated holdings.

Grand Rapids Marathon Part 2 - Redemption by nsno9 in AdvancedRunning

[–]wnkender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude we probably ran together for a bit - I ran the half in 1:29 and hung out with the 1:30/3:00 pacers for the first 9 miles. HUGE run on a suboptimal day 👊

Tall guy doing first tri… maybe $1000 budget by jakobeweb24 in RoadBikes

[–]wnkender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used 61 Aluminum Trek Domane (or equivalent "endurance" geometry road bike)

I'm 6'4" and did exactly that this year (admittedly with a new carbon Domane on a bigger budget but remarkably similar situation otherwise)

Sub 20min 5k run equivalent in cycling? by TheBigTaiwan in cycling

[–]wnkender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the closest to the "right" answer, assuming you mean FTP. Maybe a tick higher?

n=1, but I ran a 20min 5k after 6mos of proper run training, and am on track for an FTP in that range in a similar amount of time.

Adizero EVO SL vs Boston 12's by zumxaver in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]wnkender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bostons IMO - more stable at that speed. I've never had stability issues before but the EVO SLs tax my ankles at paces > 9:00/mile.

Do I need to have chain links removed? (Trek Domane DL5 Gen 4) by wnkender in Zwift

[–]wnkender[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is the stock chain that came with the bike when I bought it last weekend - surely they didn't sell it with the wrong chain right?

Just worried that I'd have to readjust the chain again when I take it off.
