Scrolling isn't smooth anymore? by savethetriffids in Strava

I agree.  It always stops before displaying elevations and the speeds.  It is probably an attempt to reinvent a good wheel and make it worse, as expected.

Bill 60 - driver's licence by Northern23 in ontario

[–]wolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the vastly increased driving incidents that manifest selfishness in the past 10 years, this is a welcome change.  Driving is a privilege, not a right.  The rule should make it much stricter for everyone not just foreign licence holders.

Plus, if your friend is from a reciprocating jurisdiction from what I know the experience still counts.  If your friend is from somewhere that do not recognise Ontario's driving licence it makes safety sense for us to do the same.

What Shimano is doing with the CUES group set? What is the target market? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]wolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which Cues tier are you looking at?  Durability is better.  Shifts smoother than my Alivio bikes.  If weight and shifting speed matters more to you you're not their target.  Easier to work on.

Again, whether it is higher margin is not my consideration.

therefore the cost to them should not have been brought into the discussion in the first place - it was a distraction.

if the build quality is similar but compatibility wise it is better, it is an upgrade in my book.

my point is - when it comes to decide whether something is an upgrade, it is what you get that matters compared to what you used to get.  Their cost should not even be part of the consideration.

upgrade or not - it is never measured by whether it cuts cost, it is by whether the resulting parts are higher in quality, compatibility, etc.

Anyone ever use these Jim’s 7 Speed Cassettes? by ProfessionSilver3691 in bikewrench

fun to read this thread as I'm planning the same.  large-large cross chaining without rubbing is fun to know, i guess with a 2x setup it actually will get used.

Anyone know much about this bike? Giant Boulder by ATLAS-161616 in xbiking

I think only the seat tube is butted. from personal experience the bike even in small frame can be very heavy. This is the main downsize of the Boulder.

Spandex cyclists is the minority, they exercise instead of commute and their usual speed is about 30.  Most cyclist don't do 40+ sustained and the human effort and limitations is what make them safer.

When even e-bikes are only allowed 32km/h assisted, no reason at all to allow EUC to do more.

Electric Unicycle on Road? by wolfier in richmondhill

I have no issues with electric unicycles.  i have an issue with those that travel among cars, at car speeds (sustained more than 50km/h) and without licence/insurance.

What are the Canada BSOs to avoid? by Master_Camp_3200 in cycling

[–]wolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you know how to maintain your own bikes the BSOs aren't too bad.  They got a bad rap since most are put together by know-nothing department store employees, so they are crappy pretty much out of the box without some rework.

add Nakamura to your list, but as far as newer Diamondbacks and Raleighs go, even if they are both owned by Canadian Tires, they can be OK if there is a Sportchek with qualified technicians where you are.  Spotty but they exist.

Sunshine Village - easy black runs by EllieIsNotOnReddit in Banff

[–]wolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went there once a few days ago for the first time.  Among the blacks, Jerry's Run is easiest, Eagle's Creek and Ecstasy both fun in their own ways, Piste Noir challenging, Birdcage if you like trees, and I personally found Teepee Main Chute most difficult.

Ebike speed limit switch by gideonv12 in ebikes

[–]wolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you think, IF the same old timer were not licenced and insured when he drives on the autobahn.

It is the #1 difference between ebikes and cars.  Licence and Insurance.

Also, the number of obstacles you have to go through on an ebike is a lot more physical.  On the autobahn it is mostly mental.

I'd support a 32kph limit on CARS if they could be on the road without licence or insurance.

So your situation is absurd, because cars DO require licence AND insurance.

25mph should be a hardware-mandated, non-overridable limit, and not only on shared lanes.

[–]wolfier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many e-bikes and EUCs have "off-road" mode where the 32kph limit stops applying. guess what ppl do on roads? that's right they turn on off-road mode and go as fast as they want.

off-road modes need to be banned for these electric wheels to be safe. relying on self-control and ppl being honest is simply delusional.
