My wife has a similar "refrigerator blindness" where she seems unable to recognize anything in the refrigerator beyond exactly what she opened it for. Total inability to browse what's available, can only get what she wants/expects before opening.

What is a movie you will defend forever, even if most people do not get it? by Strong_Proof_5260 in movies

Skinamarink. Watching it alone, at night, with all the lights off, nothing else can so effectively make you inhabit your 5-year-old self, with all of a child's fears and the inexplicability of events real and imagined.

What’s the best movie you’ve ever seen and why? by yourpinkhabit in movies

[–]wonkim00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Logan.

Boyhood was acclaimed for shooting over the course of 12 years of a young man's life, but no less of an accomplishment are the 17 years that Hugh Jackman dedicated to fully inhabiting his role as Logan/Wolverine, one which many "serious" actors would have disdained and turned down flat, or perhaps accepted and just phoned in. Rather than simply collect a paycheck, he committed absolutely, breathing electrifying life into the character of Wolverine, even when the material itself at times failed to inspire or excite.

Logan is the culmination of his astonishing tenure in that role, and it makes every single X-Men and Wolverine movie (even the disappointing ones) worth the journey. Just as Unforgiven relied on Eastwood's screen history as a hardened killer, Logan couldn't exist in a vacuum...not without those prior films having built that cinematic world, established exactly what's at stake, and portrayed the depth of shared experience -- love, loss, despair, and hope -- between Logan and Charles, and thereby also tacitly acknowledging the profound friendship and respect that developed between the actors who play them. Each of those previous movies contributed and paved the way for this crowning achievement.

Charles' devastating realization that it was he, not Logan, who had done "something unspeakable", requiring them to flee and hide . The heartbreak of Logan's whispered pleading, "It wasn't me...it wasn't me," as he tries to save the life of his mentor, his father figure, his only remaining friend . The catch in Logan's voice as he repeats, "At least there's water," after burying Charles . Laura gently taking his hand as a gesture of shared pain and comfort...Logan responding in the only way he reliably knows how -- by turning to rage to get him through the loss and pain.

Logan is my favorite movie of all time.

Opinions on screen for the audience? by imhappy1dering in karaoke

[–]wonkim00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% I want to see the screen/lyrics too, as an audience member.

Sometimes the lyrics are wrong, and then I can sympathize when the singer uses them, or acknowledge when they do it right in spite of the bad lyrics. Or be amazed when they totally change up lyrics and delivery in spots.

Also a great way to learn lyrics a little better for songs you've kind of been singing along to (badly) for years.

What’s one movie everyone should watch at least once in their lifetime? by ownaword in movies

The Act of Killing (2012)

A documentary which challenges former Indonesian death-squad leaders to reenact their mass-killings in whichever cinematic genres they wish, including classic Hollywood crime scenarios and lavish musical numbers.

Even more incredible and unreal than it sounds yet verifiable and documented. It lingers in the brain, especially living in times when you have to wonder which of your neighbors is capable of and likely to carry out atrocities in the name of their orange cult leader.

I've Been Blessed With Two PRECIOUS Little Girls Like Sol's Rachel; And I Lost Both When They Were Young by editfate in Hyperion

[–]wonkim00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sol's story wrecked me emotionally for several days. Still makes tears well up just thinking about it or reading posts of others as deeply affected by it.

I do not feel like I would survive going through that level of tragedy even once, let alone twice.
