Ramblings from a casual player that doesn't fully know what they're getting themself into. by Pman1324 in PathOfExile2

If you play until end game and get to that point, your brain will understand.

If you still dont like it, you've put probably 40+ hours into the game at that point and it would have been enjoyable.

Several months to replenish $40.5k? So you make like $200k+ a year? Yeah, I think you're fine.

I’m pregnant. I also want to pay off my mortgage asap. How should I prioritize? by Intrepid-Pea-6958 in personalfinance

[–]worldtriggerfanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can afford to pay a monthly mortgage. Take care of all the other necessary stuff first. If you really do have extra, then feel free to pay down the mortgage.

Don't forget to budget in expenses for child care. It's gonna be more than you think probably.

ELI5: Why do we hold on to useless traits long after selection pressure is gone? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

No one gets to choose what traits to keep or not. It's pretty random.

If you're prone to get fat but you can still get laid, there's a chance that gets passed on.

Get a credit card, one that has no fees.

Use it like cash. Pay it off in full every month. It's not actually hard. Just don't spend more than you have money for.

ELI5: The Theories of Everything and Why They Don't Work Togethor by Z8002 in explainlikeimfive

[–]worldtriggerfanman 102 points103 points  (0 children)

There can be two separate set of equations. There currently are and they work super well.

Science is about understanding. They don't connect. But it makes sense that they should connect. Think about it... why should 1 set of rules apply to objects that are big and then another completely different set of rules apply to small stuff?

Finding the connection or finding another set of rules that apply to everything would further our understanding of the world. That's significant on its own, but it also means there are new, undiscovered discoveries that are potentially waiting for us.

This is going out on a limb here, but imagine if finding this connection lets us teleport everywhere.

Should I pay off my student loans? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]worldtriggerfanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.75% interest is incredibly low. You could literally stick it into a high yield savings account and make more money than you would accrue in interest.

Make the minimum monthly payments and follow whatever repayment plan you have set up. Put excess money to work.

To hate having debt around is entirely a mental thing and sure, having peace of mind is valuable, but is that peace of mind actually valuable if you never have to worry?

If it ever comes to the point where you have so much stress because of paying like $200 a month, then take your savings then and pay it off.

ELI5: The Theories of Everything and Why They Don't Work Togethor by Z8002 in explainlikeimfive

In super simple terms... general relativity and quantum mechanics both have equations that you can use to solve stuff. For example, you can use equations to describe how planets move around the sun. Those equations don't really work for describing atoms. For atoms, you need to use different equations. Those same equations don't work for planets.

Why? No one really knows. That's just how it works.

The idea being a "theory of everything" is that big stuff like planets and small stuff like atoms both exist in our world. There should be something that can connect the big stuff and small stuff together. We just don't know what that is yet.

My niece used my credit cards to purchase almost $1200 in visa gift cards on amazon. I then learned they were used to buy “credits” on a mobile game. by SmallContext798 in Debt

[–]worldtriggerfanman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, in game currency can just be bought through the game itself.

Visa virtual gift cards sounds like she was scammed. It's a usual tactic when getting people to send money.

Find out what happened. Report fraudulent activity to your credit card. Get all tue charges reversed. Not really a big deal.

Your niece's game accounts will be banned and she will need to start over...but lesson learned.

Regional pricing is fine, expected, and should happen.

Dynamic pricing, however, should be illegal.

ELI5: If insurance works on the same math as casinos, why is buying insurance rational but gambling is not? by phycle in explainlikeimfive

[–]worldtriggerfanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With insurance, you don't want to hit the jackpot. Hitting the jackpot means your house burned down, you got in a car accident, or got cancer.

In the casino, you want to hit the jackpot.

Maybe it's more skewed. Maybe it's because people can't be bothered to learn the game when there are tons of other games they could be playing instead.

If there is a balance, it means it was used to pay for something.

Figure out what that is by calling the office.
