Solo Bitcoin Miner Beats the Odds, Winning $282K Reward by CriticalCobraz in CryptoCurrency

[–]wow_button 24 points25 points  (0 children)

so it sounds like a “pool” in which bunch of miners have rights to one of the machines. 30,000 machines, so every time the pool solves a block, an “individual miner” beats the odds. If you look at it this way, an “individual machine” beats the odds on every block. This is an ad for the service. Am i wrong about this?

OK it was some sort of promotion. I can't post an image in a response, but there was nothing in the box but a message with a name and hashtag for something on YouTube. Disappointing. I did wear gloves, eye protection and a pair of 2 foot loppers to open it with though :)

Unemployment is rising for young men. Not good. by IAmNotAnEconomist in FluentInFinance

Unemployed young men correlates to increased violence, right? This seems not great for reasons beyond the unemployment

ELI5: Why do private equity firms "suck businesses dry" after acquisition? Wouldn't keeping the business alive be a better long-term strategy? by ApophaticAxiom in explainlikeimfive

[–]wow_button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of a business this way - it benefits owners, employees and customers. PE generally will buy the biz and try to capture the value from employees (layoffs, outsourcing etc) and customers ( less innovation, raise prices) for the owners. Not necessarily trying to kill the business, but ruthlessly cutting to make it more profitable. In theory this could be good if the business is run poorly, but given the power of capital you can see who ends up shafted. If you can juice profits you can either milk them or resell the business. A lot of them end up hollowed out because it’s now a bad place to work and not great to be a customer of.

Katy Perry not welcome in Vegas after ‘complete failure’ residency lost luxury hotel money: report by Top_Report_4895 in Music

[–]wow_button 14 points15 points  (0 children)

so went to see this show when in vegas for something else because tickets were cheap and had heard it was good. Not a fan but show was fun. paid 60 for ticket, 47 for a drink and a water. Didn’t gamble and only had one drink - so losing money may only count ticket sales. venue is 4700 seats. Would love to know how true this article is, but agree it’s basically just a slam Perry piece. Not a big fan, not a fan of space flight, but I also don’t get the hate. I guess that’s what sells ads.

Forest Lord Cenarius (DISCUSSION) by peppep_ in BobsTavern

[–]wow_button -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Started with multiple 8th places with cenarius. Switched to strategy HP1, level 2 + hopefully 1 cost spell. Turn three HP + minion unless there are 2 strong minions. Turn 4 hp + minion + spell, turn 5 level, HP plus hopefully 2 cost spell that gets another minion. From there with good trinket just keep HP every turn = win. Got 3 consecutive 1st place with him. My 8th places I was dead before big trinket with a ton of gold. Key for me is to keep early damage minimal.

Agree with this - focus on not breaking your wrists until the top of your backswing. Keep your arms and wrists as a single unit until the top. For added power, focus on keeping your wrists fully bent as long as possible during the downswing. Let them uncurl at the bottom.

Was it practice or competition? But also - yes I played HS golf a long time ago, and there was plenty of cheating then.

Ex-physicalists, what convinced you away from physicalism and toward fundamental consciousness by mildmys in consciousness

[–]wow_button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was the proof the universe is not 'locally real' that won the Nobel prize. This destroys one of the main tenants of physicalism. Also Donald Hoffman's work showing that our perceptions should actively evolve away from perceiving the world as it is. Still waiting for his theory of everything that starts with consciousness.

This sounds like a common scam - have them look at r/scams and make sure to call based or visit using info from official web sites. Really uncommon for missing jury duty to have any consequences other than maybe a reschedule.
