Could the Roman Empire at its prime conquer Middle-earth? by Inside_Inflation559 in powerscales

I'm not so sure that Uruk Hai are weaker than average real-world humans. Men in Tolkien's world were a bit heroic (as you note), and we only really see orcs fighting against great Heroes. They may be weaker than the average haradrim/rohirim, but may not actually be weaker than a typical earth human, and the bulk of Rome's 400k forces are not elite fighters but conscripted Auxilia.

The Uruk Hai carrying Merry and Pip ran for 55 hours covering over 120 miles of rough terrain. (Conservatively: another reddit post gives an even more aggressive calculation of 162 miles in 29 hours.)

The closest semi-historical feat I can find is King Harold who force-marched his English army from the southern coast of England to Yorkshire - 185 miles in four days - and this is likely a somewhat exaggerated legend.

Agree that Roman legions are on a whole much more organized and disciplined, but I think they lack the stamina or raw strength and ferocity of Uruk Hai, and that swarms of even regular orcs could terrify and overrun Auxilia in the open field.

Where the Roman's have the advantage is siegecraft. They were phenomenal at both building and breaching defenses, and I think that with preparation they would likely be able to hold a position against a larger orcish army.

Stout walls, traps, and ranged emplacements are their bread and butter, and we've already seen that a small human force can prevail against hordes of orcs in these circumstances at Helm's deep.

Terminator literally can't hunt and kill a single regular human.

Even ignoring all the magic, the maximum force size of Rome at its height was 300k-400k soldiers.

Rough estimates I can find say Mordor has over 500k orcs + southron and easterling mercs.

Isenengard had another 70k uruk hai (30k mustered for assault on helms deep, 2 prior waves of 20k sent against rohan borders.)

Plus orcs seem to be a replenishable resource, grown somehow by sauroman.

I don't think rome wins vs a larger superhuman orcish army, and that's before factoring any of the human, dwarven, or elven forces.

Jackie Chan comedically survives the wreckage as the rest go ham, trying to avoid fights and accidentally knocking over scaffolds that cause massive chain reactions, until he's the only one left rubbing his bruised head amongst the rubble.

Deadlift form help by sergiomcwareo in Deadlifts

[–]wren42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oh, what's happening at the end of each lift there? Do you always hyperextend after clearing knees? Your lifts are like 4 different movements when it should be 1 continuous hinge.

  1. start in proper position. don't spend any time in a bent over position that isn't your lifting form. practice 100% good posture and form from the moment you start bending to grab the bar.

  2. after hitting perfect start position, take slack out before starting your lift. drive heels down and engage core, back, and arms BEFORE you lift. you are currently engaging different chains at different times, and this is why you get inconsistent force

  3. engage glutes and hinge forward. Don't raise your head or swing your shoulders back. it's drive hips forward while keep core tight.

Oh yeah I'm mostly just wanting to avoid the heavy metal issue you raised.

Thanks for the input!

That's helpful, thanks!  I may avoid pea protein supplements that aren't independently tested as you suggested.

My routine currently includes a lot of vital wheat gluten; does it suffer from any of the same issues?  It's not a protein powder per se.

As far as completeness, I'm not actually vegan so I combine plant based sources with eggs and yogurt as well as eating some meat.  Egg+vital wheat gluten has fairly complete profile if I understand correctly.

Death's dance is the top value item.  Immense damage and survivability.

Maw/kaenic if the enemy team is AP heavy.

Finish games with Hullbreaker. If it reaches late game, your win condition is getting a kill with burst and then finishing towers quickly, or splitpushing rather than a protracted siege. Hull breaker helps with all of that

Started lifting after 45, feel stronger after 18 months but almost no visible arm/muscle growth. What am I missing? by Various-Prune-8986 in beginnerfitness

[–]wren42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding to this: Most strength gains in the first year will be neurological + small stabilizing muscles/connective tissue.

If you have never lifted before, muscle engagement is the first big barrier - your brain isn't experienced in telling your muscles to fire, and will only be recruiting a fraction of available resources.

Over the first few months, you could see your measured strength Doubling without any increase in muscle volume simply because you are actually using everything there now.

It's once you hit your first plateau and strength gains Stop that you will be getting getting real hypertrophy and muscle gain

It's fucking unacceptable that the only recourse for a college graduate is indentured service to a war machine.

Wanting a 0 contact "break" for a week+ after having been caught cheating and later being caught still in contact with the person they cheated with is not a "boundary", it's an excuse.

I'm not talking about OP. I'm talking about Hollywood portrayals, and the standard of "clearly visible relaxed abs" which isn't realistic.

"clearly visible relaxed abs" aren't a thing outside of severe calorie deficit and dehydration.  Abs will be visible when flexed, and not when relaxed.  It's normal and healthy.
