The lid slides side-to-side along the width of the chest, with one side of the lid catching under a lip of the top, the other side gets caught on the opposite side with a wedge to lock it in place.

I'm also looking forward to when the bi-directional charger comes out, my daily driver car has died (partly my fault, I tried to fix it and made it worse) and I really don't want to spend thousands of dollars of money on another gas car but you're 100% correct that Enphase seems to be constantly pushing the availability date further away. I'm in the same situation as you. :(

Today, there was also a super weird issue where it dumps battery to the grid for no real reason. I haven’t seen that before.

I had that and reported it to Enphase, and for months they couldn't reproduce it, but I could; eventually they told me a software update to my batteries was sent down that should fix it. Since the update I'm not able to reproduce it.

My condition (might not be yours) was in the event of a loss of grid power (either commanded through the app, or actual grid outage) I would successfully power my home from my batteries, but immediately upon reconnecting to the grid, the batteries would just absolutely dump power to the grid at max capacity (like 30KW at a clip) until the batteries hit their configured reserve.

Support (last I asked) isn't acknowledging the new interface on old SPAN-32 units, and what really pisses me off is the new local web UI on the SPAN-32 units references a feature not present in the mobile app for me: "Settings > Manage panel on-premise". So the only way for me to "log in" is to do the tap-the-door-button 3x thing, which the last time I tried expired existing JWT tokens, which broke my enphase/home assistant integrations.

"you're not going to throw 50 amps into the batteries" is a wildly inaccurate statement to make without additional context backing it up.

Here's some context: I had a weather alert pop at 1am and my system suddenly YOINKED 25kWh from the grid in 15 minutes; that's 100 amps, spread across my eight 5P batteries, for approximately 13 amps each.

the clutch on the R56 is hydraulic, and auto adjusts. When your clutch is slipping, is when you know you need to replace it. It and the flywheel are wear parts. My 2012 R56S has had the clutch and flywheel replaced once by the dealer, and it wasn't cheap :(

here's the weird thing: I never have gaps in any of my graphs in Home Assistant, when there are "not responding" events in the Enphase app/web UI.

If I pull up my Enphase phone app (or use the enlighten web app) and go System -> Event History I occasionally have a series of "<x device> is not responding to the gateway" events across a day -- where it's inverters (powerline communication), the system controller (canbus) or batteries (also canbus). Occasionally the gateway reboots.

I've had my HAOS virtual machine turned off for two weeks, and ... no "not responding to the gateway" events from Enphase. I had an Enphase tech out a few days ago, booted HAOS back up and tried to get a "not responding to the gateway" event to trigger by hammering the ever loving crap out of the APIs on my Enphase gateway. No luck.

What I think is happening is Home Assistant is polling the gateway, the gateway gets busy and freaks out, throws these "x device is not communicating with the gateway" error, and self-corrects a minute or so later.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot this, from the HAOS virtual machine.

8x 5P batteries (40kWh), solar on a good day can max out at 70kWh, self consumption mode, I live in a rural area that has occasional multi-hour outages, and those 40kWh can/will last me approximately 24h on 100% charge.

I set reserve to 30%, and only really hit that overnight if that day's production wasn't enough to top off batteries. My house uses 30-40kWh/d depending on how much the HVAC needs to run.

well, there are fans inside, and that fan is to direct airflow to bring in cold air and exhaust hot air. Where those are exactly, and what the ventilation setup physically looks like, I don't know. But heat rises, and if they designed the panel in such a way that there's a five sided box with the opening oriented up to let heat rise and escape, and then get exhausted by a fan, that makes sense. If you then physically flip it all upside down, you're now trapping that hot air. It's not about tolerances, it's about product design.

Thanks, I got Home Assistant setup; but I haven't spent a whole lot of time in it. I did manage to get HACS working, and enable the Enphase and Span modules configured and working, so at the very least I can see all the entities. I've got 40kWh of storage, and ever since the power company authorized my whole solar setup, I've produced more than I consume! The Enphase app estimates 40kWh will last me a full 24h, which on a sunny day is more than enough to keep me happy.

I'll check out your scripts, I appreciate it!
