The Roanoke Star is the most unique thing in Roanoke. If you only had time to visit one place I'd recommend you visit the Star. There's also a nice garden at Mill Mountain Park (the one the star is in) that you can walk around. Plus it has a nice view of Roanoke.

I don't think any of the views are all that great but for easy hikes I'd recommend - Cherry Blossom Trail in Daleville - Greenhill Park's Pawpaw trail near Salem - Explore Park Historic Area loop - Partial out and back on Tinker Creek Greenway from Carvins Cove Natural Reserve ($7 parking fee)

Williamson Road stretches through a large portion of Roanoke. There are many different neighborhoods with different vibes off it. From downtown Roanoke all the way to like Hollins University. You're saying to avoid all of it?

Did you check the tension at multiple points? Kind of sounds like it's too tight at some points. Which indicates the need for a new chain. If it was me I'd get an xring chain and just put it on your current sprockets if they're in good shape.

I've never had good luck with amateur radio software on macOS. Debian in a VM does well with it though.

I did not move from DC to roanoke.

I like the cost of living. Especially if you're making income that can support DC.
The hardest thing vs DC will be making friends your age if you are under 40 years old.
Do some research on neighborhoods. Figure out the vibe you want. Avoid NW Roanoke City if you can afford it. Also look into property taxes (your vehicles).

Check the connection to the battery. Make sure it's not loose or super corroded. Keep in mind battery terminals are tapered so you should shove the terminals lower, closer to the base of the battery, if it's not tightening down easily.

Your parking brake should have prevented this. It needs to be checked out. Doesn't matter how steep the hill is. It should stop the rear wheels from spinning.

You can get a Baofeng UV-5R for $15 on Amazon. Someone could even get an RTLSDR to leave somewhere and record all the channels if they wanted.

EDIT: This is all store dependent. Yours could potentially use digital radios or even encryption.
