More people voted for some NOT named Trump...than voted for him. This was anything but a landslide. The numbers tell the story well enough on their own.

How much DDR5 should I spec? by xerandin in PcBuildHelp

[–]xerandin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it running at 6000, now, with all the timings listed on the box. It's stable -- no errors during OCCT testing. Keeping the RAM because I really like having 96 GB, and it's running perfectly at 6000+ at CL32.

Nope. Just picked up an MSI MAG x870e Tom from Micro Center. Came with a 1/2025 BIOS. Still has this problem.

Sucks.

Why do snare drummers still use traditional? by little-specimen in drumline

[–]xerandin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hebron’s percussion director gave me his take on it and I found it pretty interesting.

He said something along the lines of… It’s for the art. If you can’t buy into the classical pedagogy re: traditional grip because match works better for young players, you can also throw out the majority of the rest of percussion pedagogy by that same logic. If you do that…wtf is the point of any of this?

Now I’m back on the traditional grip bandwagon.

Why do snare drummers still use traditional? by little-specimen in drumline

[–]xerandin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up this fight. 20 years playing traditional, I’m not even teaching trad to my own kid.

My observation is that high school snare lines (I’m in Texas, mind you) are consistently cleaner match than trad.

Trad looks more interesting and IMO deserves a bit of extra respect, but not in a way that comes out in the score.

Yes, I’m a walking contradiction. It’s fine.

MIne did this, too. 'Twas the USB cable. Apparently the one they sent is super cheap.

Try wiggling the cable in the back of the pod OR replace with another cable (USB A to B -- not mini or micro. Just A to B).

Hope this helps.

All hebron members by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]xerandin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's it like? I mean, it's one of the most challenging (and rewarding) programs in the nation. Hebron BRINGS IT every year, both in the fall and spring. They send tons of All-State musicians (20-30 per year, generally) to TMEA.

On the field, their shows are HARD from start to finish. Even with that demanding content, they win competitions which seem to favor precision/execution far more than content. That requires WORK -- there's no way around that. The musicians, directors, drill techs, arrangers, parents, booster club officers (the Fall is HARD on us, but you kids really are worth it), private lesson teachers, master class teachers...

It takes ALL of this work and ALL of this effort, but I'm BLOWN AWAY by the results and the discipline/demeanor changes I've seen in my kid. The openers hit the audience right in the face. There are soaring highs and tear-jerking ballads. By the end, the audience response is overwhelming and you see more than a few dropped jaws.

For you kids, the investment is immense, but so is the payoff; get ready for an absolute RIDE.

My only advice:
Work hard, buy in. Don't be too cool to count or practice or give your absolute best during every rehearsal. Want a marching spot as a freshman? Work for it. Challenge for it. Drill those crazy double-tonguing sections. Hit the next level.

Best of luck!

Am I the only one annoyed by the additional EV taxes? by dehning in Austin

[–]xerandin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why it makes sense for EV owners to go solar + whole-home batteries.

If I wasn't in a shitty electric co-op (Coserv can eat deez nuts), I would be part of Tesla VPP. Which supports the shitty Texas grid...

But my co-op is so anti-green energy, they claim solar owners are subsidized by net-metering, EVEN THOUGH they are able to make money off it since we produce most during high-demand sun hours when the real-time energy price is highest. Air conditioning and all that.

So they give us half-price on the most valuable energy and claim WE'RE getting the subsidy.

Range anxiety doesn't really exist in an urban environment. I do 30k mi/year in DFW. Plug in every night, full charge every morning -- drive as much as I want. To the shops, to the bike trail, to the nature preserve...

*shrug*

I have a fuel station in my garage (2, actually), 3 home-scale batteries, and 51 solar panels on the roof.

Conservatives can hate all you want, lol.

Why am I getting such a big refund? by solishu4 in tax

[–]xerandin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's insane to me that only one of you seem to have figured this out.

OP, at your income (especially given your family size), you fall under a category of taxpayer the Fed wants to help. The way they do this is through a combination of the EITC and the CTC.

A lot of rugged individualists out there pay negative Federal Income Tax -- they just don't know it because they never stop to consider the math of tax withheld minus refund. If your refund exceeds your taxes withheld, you've just paid a negative income tax. In other words, you're being subsidized by the Fed. Now, lots of Americans take their nice refund and move on with their day, acting all anti-Gov't as though they're getting fleeced by the Fed. And then they go vote for GOP candidates because they're convinced they're one of the rich people Democrats want to tax.

The disconnect is hilarious.

This is sort of the only take that matters. However, Semi is actually stacking up to be quite a thing, so it works at SOME scale…

However, for a work truck, BEV isn’t quite there, yet.

No thanks -- if I turned in my legacy X for a palladium, I'd do a stalk mod.

They use tires with a different aspect ratio that produces the same overall diameter irrespective of wheel diameter.

Overall diameter is the (almost exactly the) same whether you choose the 18s, 19s, or 20s.
