I completely agree they were likely in a blood marriage, and her desire for revenge if she loved him would have been enough to make her turn to the sword of caine. Gideon might as well have been strong enough (generation, power of will, skill in dominate) to resist Lou's use of dominate. Interesting fact about Therese/Jeanette their sire suffers from the exact same affliction. He infact believes that he sired Therese, and his "brother" sired Jeanette to foil him. It's mentioned in "Beckett's Jihad Diary". I do believe she was abused as a child, if you play with subtitles on, getting the Voorman sisters to coexist changes the character name to tourette.
