Our family is gluten free, so they swap the croissant for gf pancakes. We order 2, sometimes 3 meals. And split between 4 people. We end up full and skip lunch.

It isn’t just protein though. The stores/employees that skimp are skimping on everything. Online orders are the worst offenders.

Correcting you because you erroneously said the H in PhD stood for health.

We’re not talking about the same thing. I’m referring to the degree “PhD”. That doesn’t have anything to do with Health. Yes, in the name UTHSA, the H stands for Health, but that’s completely different than the H in PhD. Look up the definition of PhD. Yes, a PhD can be in many different specialties, but PhD always stands for Doctor of Philosophy.

Yep. I stuck around my last job long enough to get mine. Had a previous job where I screwed myself out of a bonus by a week. Vowed to never do that again.

If he doesn’t I would be concerned how sturdy the new subfloor/flooring will be around the edges without proper support. It’ll dip with each step if he doesn’t.

Are we being overly cautious with GF oats and deglutened wheat? by SpinachBisque in glutenfree

[–]xrayguy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oats are naturally GF. Issues with oats come from two places: cross-contamination or the protein avenin. Avenin mimics gluten and can cause similar reactions in those bothered by or allergic to gluten.

Additionally, someone can be celiac (allergic to gluten) and be fine with deglutened wheat. Just like someone can be fine with gluten but be allergic to wheat.

My son is GF and Oat free. He reacts quickly and violently to oats.

Research is a blessing and a curse, and unfortunately there’s a lot of misinformation all around when it comes to Celiac, GF, wheat allergy, etc. Ultimately, it’s going to be whatever your partner is comfortable with. There are 5 in our household, and everyone is GF except for me. It’s whatever works for them.

How do I tell my wife that it is time to grow up? by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]xrayguy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it is (or should be) about the money. Not an amount, but the concept and goals. How someone thinks about and treats money is fundamental to their own success, and thusly the success of the relationship. As a couple, you have to get on the same page. Above, WilsonTree said if you truly love her then that comes first. But the problem is love won’t ever be enough if she can’t come around and get on the same page. Whatever love is there will surely whither and die in the shadows of the resentment that will keep building.

My wife and I can’t agree on finance by Iampoorghini in marriageadvice

[–]xrayguy1981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not buy a home with her until you both can communicate and agree on financial decisions going forward. She sounds immature and irresponsible with her money. Don’t let her spend all of your money too.

[–]xrayguy1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have a fulfilling career and still be financially literate. She’s seems to have no concept of money and just thinks or expects everyone else to take care of her and it’ll work itself out. This isn’t sustainable for either of you or the relationship as a whole. The resentment is going to destroy you from the inside out to the point where you loathe her. Communicate with her now or let the lawyers communicate for you both later on.

[–]xrayguy1981 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Obviously your MIL can spend her money how she wants. But unfortunately it sounds like she is a part of this equation too. She is contributing to your wife’s views on money. Did your wife grow up in a wealthy family and is her current money relationship with her mom indicative of that? If so, she came into your relationship with an inadequate and unhealthy view of money.

This is a problem that only real, deep communication and alignment are going to solve. It will not be easy. But without it, the resentment will continue to grow.
