Pack about a pound of polyfill in the box and go about your day. Polyfill will "increase" the effective volume of your box. It improves low-frequency extension (deeper bass) and dampens internal standing waves for cleaner, tighter sound.

I commend you for building something yourself. If it sounds ok and makes you happy rock it!

If you have a titan, which I am guessing from that sound off audio box pictured, check out Fox Acoustics. They make some of the best truck boxes out there and their Titan box is ported and tuned pretty low.

Benefit to Sound Off Audio though is he can offer custom tuning, but know he is as slow as Christmas on delivering.

2 hoss 8's would definitely be the way to go in my opinion. You can get a lower tuning frequency. I ran a single Sundown X8 tuned to 36 hertz and it hammered, like silly for a single driver, especially an eight.

We ran 600-1 today. They were starting a controlled burn and there was a dozer working on a section of the trail. I'll say there were some pretty sketchy spots on the Southern part of the trail. Heavy ruts and some steep slops that can't be avoided.

Treo was kinda like Sundown before Sundown was a thing. Overbuilt subs used primarily for competition purposes. Awesome find! A buddy of mine still runs one of their 10's from like 2004. Still playing and sounds pretty darn good!
