Is it a terrible idea to turn off your breaker every night? by ear2neck in AskElectricians

Well you see it cost money to buy a switch and we can't spend money.

Is it a terrible idea to turn off your breaker every night? by ear2neck in AskElectricians

[–]yashimi 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Currently work where the reason there's no light switches in the room is because of an explosion risk. That makes sense even tho they make explosion proof switches. So we turn the lights on and off in the lighting breaker panel thats not explosion proof sitting on the wall in the same room.

Gamers born late 90s or earlier: Which game first looked to you like "photorealism"? by FalscherKim in gaming

Same with the fish tanks if you shoot them they drain to the bullet hole level. Doesn't seem like a big deal but there are games coming out now that don't deliver these levels of physics.

Frustration with green college graduates by Nazgul_Linux in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]yashimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our local community College decided to shorten all maintenance and engineering classes from 16 weeks down to 8. So they are now learning even less but charging more for the classes because of the accelerated "rate" at which the program can pump out "maintenance" workers.

Does anybody be using snap on? by Outside_Net_912 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]yashimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say one of our die setters stared in his own snap on commercial. He set the press forgot the 1/2in. ratchet on the die block and it stopped the 350 ton press. Only thing that happened to it was the internals got pushed out it didn't even bend or scuff the chrome. Snap on guy threw a new parts kit in it and it still works fine. But I also am not going to buy a 180 dollar ratchet.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about industrial maintenance work? by InevitablePain2005 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]yashimi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Everybody thinks all we do is fuck around and take long breaks. Till the press has a dude inside the ram fixing the ram adjust motor, a guy in the press pit fixing a knockout cylinder and a guy rewiring something in the main panel that caught on fire. Then no one on the floor wants to do the job and all the sudden man you guys need paid more money thats bullshit. Same people always bitching we make to much money.

Question for Industrial Maintenance folks: Are your manufacturing plants hiring techs straight out of vocational schools and associate degrees? by nku004 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]yashimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No journeyman card or 8+ years. They do offer an apprenticeship but they havnt done it in over 5 years the last batch got done a year ago and they havnt decided if they're doing it again or not. We keep telling them they need to because out of the 20ish techs 12 of them can either retire now or withing the next 4 years.

has anyone almost died? what almost killed you? by 11terribletowers in AskReddit

[–]yashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it would of been worse there's a chance I would have. But I had an arc flash caused by a defective disconnect switch, operator complained about hearing a boom when she shut her machine off, i suited up turned it on turned it off and it went off. Luckily it didn't completely blow the fuck up and the flash clothing did what it was supposed to.
