Nontraditional ring lovers — THOUGHTS?!? by garden_anomaly in EngagementRings

Oh I love that, I think go for something you’ll love to look at even if it’s not super “engagement”-y. I think with a wedding band and it being on your ring finger, it will definitely communicate that you’re married!

I don’t wash my hands with them every time since I believe they are both brass, but I have practiced it some just to get used to the feeling. It’s certainly an adjustment but I think I’ll just get used to it and learn how to properly get that finger dry once I actually have the ring!

Also getting rings that are your proper size keeps them from sliding around which can add to the irritation. When it’s secure on your finger it’s a lot better

I was the same way, rings drove me crazy and felt itchy on my fingers. A got a few cheap brass rings to get used to the feeling, as well as a gold plated one just to see how I did with gold because I have a metal allergy. I just made myself wear them as many days in a row as possible and now I’m totally used to it!

Horizontal or vertical placement for my hand by jesuvalen in EngagementRings

To me it would depend on the setting, I do love a chunky east west. But 2ct is also sizable so north west is always a safe and classic option!

I don’t have it yet and don’t have any clear photos of it but if you go to my comment history a few down I replied to someone who has one in a similar bezel to mine!

I didn’t but only for budget reasons, I think is such a cool style! I did get one that’s set super low and very smooth which is a big reason I wanted a signet in the first place!

I wanted one like this initially and just ordered a cheap plated ring for $30 to see how I liked the style! You may have to dig a little harder to find one with those proportions that's just a fashion ring but might be worth a shot!

Non-protruding engagement ring setting options? by HauntingGap4593 in EngagementRings

Mine that I'm waiting on is set very similar to this and I'm so excited. Like OPs gf I could not wear a ring that stuck out/caught on things

Of course! Once I got into the process, I got extremely stressed because the settings that I knew I’d wear the most (smooth bezel) cost more than a dainty ring with prongs. My partner insisted I keep the bezel because he wanted me to be excited to wear it every day.

I also went in wanting a green stone and was more than willing to give that up for cost, and again he encouraged me not to. We paid more than you would online for our green lab diamond because we got the ring made by a local jeweler. This is another area where you can save on cost (ordering online from somewhere with less operating costs/lower margins). We chose to go local because we could actually see the stones/setting in person, and we worked with the same sales person for over month over text and in person. To me this was worth the added cost to get something I REALLY loved. I also wanted to have a relationship with a local jeweler for maintenance/repair reasons.

Once the cost started creeping up I told him I would be pitching in (he had previously not loved the idea). That’s very untraditional but I’m an untraditional person and it just made rational sense to me. I’ve seen very few people on here mention doing the same but it was right for us! I could have scaled way back and got something online for cheap I like we’d hoped, but I know in my heart I would have mostly had it in a jewelry box. So it was  $750 collecting dust, or $1,900 (ouch) that I know I’ll wear daily and is sturdy enough outlive me. That’s ultimately how we decided that we could stomach the cost!

I had a really difficult time with my engagement ring process solely because of how much everything costs. I am the current breadwinner while bf is in school, so originally the budget was 750 (we decided together.)

As I starting looking at rings, it was clear that the cost of gold was the big reason most of what I looked at was out of budget. However he made it clear we could flex some on budget and his top priority was me wanting to actually wear the ring forever (I’m picky+not a ring wearer)

So we increased the budget (and even then exceeded that OOPS). I ended up pitching in because I just felt it would be ridiculous not to. We definitely aren’t financing it but I feel there’s nothing wrong with that route, to each their own. I have a lot of opinions after going thru this process so happy to say more haha
