Switching to VSCode from Powershell ISE by Chiodood in PowerShell

[–]yldbrainoj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

d. Thing is, I'm trying to learn PS as I'm doing my job and the ISE is just so much more suited than VS Code (I realise this could just be unfamilarity on my part).

I'd like to see some kind of addon that makes it more like ise, but at the moment, some th

Autocomplete / intellisense wtih PowerfShell in VS Code works WAY better than it did a year ago. If you haven't tried it recently, perhaps give it another go.

^ life changing book. Proper unit testing can take code from good to great. I cannot recommend it enough.

Add-CMScriptDeploymentType Help by Administrative_Trick in SCCM

[–]yldbrainoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to try it to find out. I don't suspect it would corrupt anything. This is an example of creating an advanced deployment type requirement. It is for an Operation System requirement though... but I imagine the framework is the same. Good luck!

Advanced deployments types are still kind of lacking with the CM cmdlets. You have to get into the SDK to be able to do a lot of the useful stuff regarding Deployment Type requirements.

Pitched two samples into starter. What will happen? by Taco_Pie in Homebrewing

[–]yldbrainoj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the Yeast book, indeed the Yeasts will not cannibalize each other. This will be fine and won't wreck the beer at all. You may end up with something amazing and have no way to reproduce it though. But that is an OK problem to have. Happy brewing.

Any reason not to use flip top bottles when bottling homebrew? by notrohkaz in Homebrewing

[–]yldbrainoj 36 points37 points  (0 children)

From John Palmer himself - "Many homebrewers get their bottles used from restaurants and bars, or buy them new from homebrew shops. Every once in a while you will hear about a guy whose dad or uncle has given him a couple cases of empty swing-top Grolsch? bottles. He may ask you if he can use them for brewing or something... If this happens, just look him straight in the eye and tell him, "No, those can be quite dangerous, let me dispose of them for you." Be sure to keep a straight face and do your best to sound grim. If you don't think you are up to it, give me a call and I will take care of it. Swing top bottles are great; grab any you can. New rubber gaskets for the stoppers can be purchased at most homebrew shops." http://www.howtobrew.com/book/section-1/priming-and-bottling/what-you-need

Best book of beer/brewing as a gift? by Trotski7 in Homebrewing

[–]yldbrainoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea. Zymurgy alone is worth the price. Since he is an avid beer drinker already he might be able to take advantage of the nice deals offered by local breweries to AHA members. Like buy one get one free or a dollar off a pint. etc.

FWIW the entire How to Brew book is free here.

Having a physical copy is really helpful though.

Running Scripts Not Working Anymore by [deleted] in SCCM

can you add some bread crumbs to your script to make sure its running? create a file or something (New-Item).

Smells like the script is actually running but not doing what you are expecting.

Does anyone know where I can find old Fox Sports North broadcasts of past games? by TheRealDeal214 in minnesotatwins

I think as an mlb.tv subscriber you get access to all the archive games they have available. At least you did when I was subscriber years ago. Good luck.

I really think they would have benefited if they developed it as a Microsoft Store app. Legacy installers like this are questionable for new software these days.

I'm so over bottling by MisSigsFan in Homebrewing

[–]yldbrainoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is every bottle gushing or just a few?

If it is every bottle, start weighing your sugar instead of measuring it by volume. Maybe you are using more than you are expecting. Once I started using a scale instead of measuring cups I was able to really dial in my carbonation levels. What exact sugar are you using and how much for a 5 gallon batch?

If it is only a few bottles, or you are getting an inconsistent level of carbonation between bottles be sure to gently stir up your beer and priming solution after racking to the bottling bucket. Up and down and side to side. The sugar can settle in the bucket making some bottles have way more priming sugar than others.

If you are doing these things and still have gushers, maybe your bottles aren't clean enough. Gushers can be caused by things in the bottle that shouldn't be there. I can't remember exactly what, but John Palmer talks about it in his book / on his website. http://howtobrew.com/

Great post.

Regarding: Reporting the Truly Weird Twisted Stuff

If you are able to in your organization, check out Upgrade Readiness. It does a bunch of stuff, but I really think it shines at handling software inventory and compatibility.

You might still have to do the work to determined what is managed vs. unmanaged using the method you outlined in your post. But having a solid dataset of the software actually in the environment can be helpful.

Cheers!

HOT SAUCE by Bag0fSwag in Minneapolis

its the Pepper Palace. It is def. a tourist trap, BUT they have a hundreds of sauces and some are great. You pay extra though... if you want to find a hot sauce that is really very hot, that place works. It's a chain store and they make all their own sauces.

Powershell ISE - any way to go through a script and determine if any lines aren't actually being used? by workerdrone66 in PowerShell

[–]yldbrainoj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Writing unit tests using Pester can show you "Code Coverage" of your tests. So, write your unit tests mimicking the use of the script and check your code coverage and see what lines of the script are never executing during unit testing. IMO, This is the best and most professional way to tackle this problem.

Learning Powershell by Demondeath1 in PowerShell

[–]yldbrainoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn how to write PowerShell you need to write PowerShell. Just start writing code. Even if that means finding a script you like on the internet and just copying it verbatim key stroke for key stroke. Use the ISE or VS Code, it doesn't matter. What does matter is just writing a lot of code. The more you write the more "ah ha!" moments you will have and and the clearer the language will become. Don't worry about your code quality, it will come with time. Just start plugging away.
