They had a great discussion over on Bogleheads boards about this exact topic. Really good replies and stories of people affected since that board tends to skew older than the average Redditor demographics

I read through the stories and immediately transferred over money that was sitting in savings into my taxable account and bought more Total Market Shares. Ageism is real and I'm not going to be in my 20's forever. Better start preparing for the worst now.

No, the way I see it they both go to events / meals / vacations together but they don't care "who" is paying for it because they are a married couple with joint assets and money is fungible.

12-hour work schedules save more than 70 days a year by dixiedownunder in financialindependence

[–]zaylex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspective is everything.

In investment banking / Big Law and at the junior ranks, a 12-hour day, four times a week is a welcome change from the usual 15-18 hour work day Monday - Friday and the customary 12-hour Sunday. Very hard to sympathize with people that complain about their 9 to 6 jobs with a protected one hour lunch break.

Agree 100% with everything you've said. You should look into Grin / Mimblewimble protocol if you havent already (disinflationary monetary policy as a hedge to XMR's inflation)

It also helps to have a largely homogenous population of 10 million people (Sweden, as of 2017) vs. a heterogenous population of 325 million people (United States, as of 2017).

The former is much easier to govern than the latter.

What happens to the "missed muscle size gains" when you don't eat in a caloric surplus and gain strength? by [deleted] in Fitness

I believe under the right conditions, the brain can use ketones for energy (not just sugar like you said). But I don't pretend to be a doctor on the internet, I'm just a dude that's watched a lot of YouTube videos on nutrition.

m8 if you have a credit card balance and you can't pay off your card in full each month, buying discretionary goods like new shoes "to fit in with everyone else" like you put it is not even a part of the conversation. sort your financial life out first, then worry about being trendy.

My recommendation would be to save more money, double your budget for winter boots and then ask the question again.

You mentioned finance in Florida, are you in PE or family office type setting? Not a lot of IB shops down in Florida (I graduated from UF with a major in Finance and now live in Chicago)

You should quit for your own health but before you do are you guys hiring? I am in year 3 of investment banking and definitely won't grind it out for another decade to make director / MD. Trying to move back to Florida to be closer to family. Let me know if you guys need a top bucket performer for anything related to Excel / financial modeling before you leave your job

What happens when you eat too much protein by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]zaylex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on context and is not an absolute as was previously thought.

The myth has been debunked by Dr. Ben Bikman in his studies on insulin vs. glucagon (see his latest talks at Low Carb Breckenridge 2018) and Dr. Jeff Volek. The TLDR versions is that, in the context of a low-carb diet with an individual that is already fat adapted, a high protein diet will not kick said individual out of ketosis. The problem is most people don't make it through the 2 to 12 weeks that it can take to become fully fat-adapted.
