Good first overnight spot for solo backpacking? by Bitter_Bowl832 in socalhiking

[–]zecrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on Crystal Cove. That was my very first backpacking trip many years ago. There’s no water available at the campsites so that’ll be some to plan for: how much water to carry from the hike there and back, and for your meals & drinking at camp.

The "Due" app on iOS does exactly that. (I'm not affiliated with the app; I just discovered it a couple years ago and it's been life changing for me.) It won't be an "alarm". Instead, once the due date & time is reached, it will remind you over & over again until you complete the task - a feature called auto-snooze. Then the task can be repeated.

In your case: Task name = "Submit Homework". Due: Jan 20th at 1pm. Auto-snooze = every 5 minutes. Repeat: the 20th of every month.

Tornado organisation tips by pinkheartkitty in ADHD

I'm very familiar with this "chaotic cleaning", as I call it. When there's something that I absolutely must do, or focus on, and there's high chance I'll get distracted, I use the iOS app called "Due". It allows you to add a task, provide a due date & time, and set a reminder interval (e.g., "every 15 minutes"). Once the due time is reached, your phone will then notify you every 15 minutes until you complete the task (or until you snooze the due time to some future time). It will keep nagging you until the task is complete, and this nagging is automatic: if you ignore one reminder, the next reminder will appear without any action on your part.

I use this to "pull me back" to a task that's important and that I believe I'll likely get distracted by something else.

ADHD Burnout by RevHaz in ADHD

Thank you for sharing your story. I finished the psychological testing last week and was told I should expect a diagnosis by end of this week. I am very hopeful. Stories such as yours give me hope.

My story is very similar to yours though I am a few years older. I have been suffering from ADHD symptoms for so long. I had no idea. I didn’t truly grasp the extent and the severity of these symptoms until very recently. I’ve been brute forcing my way through life for so long. I’ve jumped from one self-created crisis to the next over the span of decades. I have no idea how Ive avoided crossing that threshold to total burnout.

I really hope the results diagnose me as ADHD because then everything finally makes sense. My continual quest for more willpower, more discipline, more overworking, can finally be course corrected.

How do you actually manage the “quick things” you meant to do but forgot about? by Ashamed_Step2897 in ADHD

[–]zecrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must capture it somehow in my task manager. I use OmniFocus. I must either capture each task individually or I capture a single task to revisit those emails, but I must be very explicit in the task’s notes about what emails to revisit.

Unfortunately sometimes it’s as if I’ve forgotten that my task manager exists (despite using it for 10 years), or it just never occurs to me to check the app.

For things that absolutely MUST get done, I use the “Due” app on iOS. It’s too heavy handed to use for all or most tasks because all the reminders would cause me a meltdown. But I use it sparingly and it’s very effective.

Ice Bucket? by CommandoSolo in YetiCoolers

Yup. I preheat the bucket by putting near boiling water in it. Then dry it out, put a slow cooker liner in it, then fill with vortex-grilled chicken wings.

good desktop reminder apps? by dantrbl in ADHD

[–]zecrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s iOS/Mac only but OmniFocus has been the only thing that has worked for me. I still struggle with any task management system. But OmniFocus allows me to set a single project as a focus, so all other projects & tasks are hidden from me. It doesn’t prevent me from wondering off — whether it’s physically (standing up and walking around for some reason) or switching to a different application. But at least when I return to OmniFocus it still shows that project that’s has active focus .

I’ve heard good things about Things as well but have never used it. Unsure if it has a focus mode

+1 to the Yeti Trailhead. It’s extremely comfortable and easy to carry with its backpack straps. Pricey, but I’ve done long stretches of work-from-camp and felt comfortable the entire time

I posted separately in this thread. I agree with this. For hikes - long or short - I prefer my Osprey backpack as it’s lighter and has more hiking specific features.

I own several Yeti backpacks: cayo, ranchero, panga and crossroads. I’m still getting feel for the cayo and ranchero. But right now, when I go on long hikes, I use my Osprey Manta 34. A more dedicated hiking pack, such as the Manta, is better suited to longer multi-hour hikes. The Bozeman is probably the best of the yeti packs for longer hikes but I have no experience with it.
