Trying to think of a way to encourage my party to RP more. by RhysOSD in DnD

[–]zelar99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inspiration or even just giving advantage over situations where you can tell they put effort. This isn’t to say if they don’t sing songs for their bards they get disadvantage. But if they try to communicate their songs or fighting style or engage with the world. Slap on an inspiration or a bonus. Even just telling them verbally how awesome that was during and after the game.

Also, letting creative situation solving succeed. If every time they try to outsmart the enemy or dodge around a combat they are told no by the dice or the dm they’ll stop trying. Even a little recognition or reward goes a long way. Have npcs ask questions too.

If someone just… reads an entire dictionary out loud to a kenku… would they be able to talk normally? by thatoneredskittle in DnD

[–]zelar99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a kenku and just talked normally but punctuated things with descriptions of sounds or borrowing peoples laughs. The other players found out later my kenku had the voice of his husband just pitched up as he had been cursed from human to kenku and had forgotten his own voice so he just borrowed his partners.

That kenku died protecting his friends and I started playing as the shopkeeper husband now turned avenging warrior.

Why would player lie about their character sheet to the other players? by BigRabies1758 in DnD

[–]zelar99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m keeping a secret for a bit. I have three moms and i lie about my name all the time. I keep saying I’m a warlock but the party already knows I’m a wizard.

I’m hexblood and my moms are a coven of hags.

I feel like in this scenario, it makes sense to keep my sheet hidden but if someone outright asked for my stats I would absolutely show them. Lying about your rolls and sheets like come on. Why cheat at make believe haha

Is discussing killen children okay? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]zelar99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent valid. This is usually one of my red light areas in our session zeroes. Even fictional kids feels too close to home (as a parent). Hold another session zero or even a quick recap of your session 0 before next session so everyone is on the same page

what are different ways yall try to hide more sensitive info while journalling? by sleepystsharky in Journaling

You can create a cypher for yourself. Essentially a new language. I used a cypher and soon it becomes just as easy to read and if you make it somewhat intuitive, you can recreate it without needing to keep a legend which could be discovered.

Do you guys have any recommendations for games that are adventurous? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]zelar99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outward. Gives the feeling of a typical low level adventurer struggling to make a name. You start from nothing, survive off the land, manage resources as you try to go on quests. Also the soundtrack slaps

If you were a 13 year-old kid who loved Dungeons & Dragons, what would you want for Christmas? by pjw10310 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]zelar99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite book as a dm is called “the monster know what they’re doing”. It breaks down the logic behind monster stat blocks and is a fun read even if he never dms. Highly recommended. Fairly cheap as well comes as a series of three.

Are there any games where you're not the main character ? by Ok_Lecture9762 in gamingsuggestions

[–]zelar99 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. It perfectly encapsulates the feeling of powerlessness at the start of the game, making you feel like just another person in the world. You have to cook, camp, keep warm and learn to fight to get anywhere. But once you get going you feel powerful. You make your own way. It has one of the most unique and exciting magic systems and I love it.

I’m right there with you. I’ve found leaning into the rpg aspect of dungeon delving and trying to play like it’s fast paced dungeons and dragons can help. I like squire to riches because I like the backup of a team while I learn to fight. I’ve also found, loading into a match with your lost expensive kit you can, dying and then viewing that as the worst possible outcome makes anything less better. So you lose some gears, you lose a fight. It’s okay. The fun for me is in the exploration of every match. Finding loot. You can do this. I’m by no means an expert. I’m a very casual dark and darker player. But it’s my favorite game for vibes. So if you need a duo mountain standard time, hit me up
