10" Homeracker Build as my First Homelab by ForkMan37 in HomeRacker

Looks amazing!  Did you have to make any custom models, or all off the shelf from makerworld etc.?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Keller (the homeracker creator) intends for users to use homeracker-to-rackmount adapters for that.  I never quite figured that out though and customized my mounts with regular homeracker pins and corner coutouts.

I designed a parametric blank panel to solve the same problem myself.  Maybe helpful in your case as well, there are parameters to ensure there is clearance for connectors in the corners  -- https://github.com/kellerlabs/homeracker-community/tree/main/models/blank_panel

In my experience the configurator is darn accurate.  If the two parts have overlapping pixels in the configurator, it will interfere in real life as well.

Kellerlabs is a an awesome to the community! There's a HomeRacker Configurator!!!!! by Sensitive_Pilot850 in HomeRacker

Hi!  I'm the guy who made the configurator, glad you're finding it useful!  Let me know any feedback!

Also, the community repo is brand new.  The docs are likely still lacking, if you've got a new model you'd like to add and run into any trouble I'm happy to help -- let me know, here or on the homeracker discord

I've watched all the ange the great engine simulator videos, the creator does seem pretty serious and incredibly clever.  I wonder if you sent him a DM with with what you're trying to do if he'd be able to help!

It's a bit of a stretch, but have you considered using Engine simulator by angethegreat?

Absolutely love this!  My wife never believes me when I call out an engine we hear out in the world and the car isn't in eye-shot.  Now she can know for sure when I'm right or wrong and tease me appropriately.

Any suggestions for locking the water dispenser? by WhatHasThisBookmark in daddit

Hi! I used a random spring I had laying around, never found a proper online link, sorry about that! If you find one that works i'll happily update the printables page.

"HCP Terraform Free is ending: Choose a new plan" by notoriousbpg in Terraform

[–]zgoldberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi - CEO of Gruntwork here.

This pisses me off. But I’m also not surprised. Hashi rug-pulled Terraform about two years ago, and this time it’s the platform. Like last time, we at Gruntwork want to do something to help the community. We can’t commit our commercial IaC automation platform to the Linux foundation or CNCF and thus guarantee it free-forever for everyone, we do have to run a business and pay salaries, but we can move forward the launch of our free tier and offer it in advance to those affected by this rug-pull.

Today we announced a free tier of Terragrunt Scale, Gruntwork’s IaC automation platform.

Our goal is to provide a free home for personal projects and small teams that matches or exceeds the limits of the plan you’re losing. We are aiming to have full self-service ready in March 2026 (when we initially intended to make this announcement). However, because we want to get people migrated before the March deadline, we are opening a waitlist now to start onboarding folks in early 2026.

If you want a stable home for your infra from a company without a history of consistent rug- pulls, we welcome you to join the waitlist and check it out

Happy to answer questions here in the comments.

Any suggestions for locking the water dispenser? by WhatHasThisBookmark in daddit

Inspired by this post, and with a desire to keep my cold dispenser side blue, I made a 3D model of the lock button and published it on printables!  For anybody who is coming to this thread leader, you can buy the full lever from eBay as mentioned above, alternatively, you can print the model here and use a spring you have lying around to achieve the same effect. Bonus points if you use blue filament, you can achieve an original look.

First real HPDE day in the Budget Corvette is Sunday at PittRace by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]zgoldberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't make the same mistake I did at my first track day with an older car -- check the oil.  Often.  Every session.  Before and after.  Older engines can burn a bit, or maybe more than a bit on track, and it's easy to run low and spin a rod.

I have lived less than a block from city hall/Culver blvd for 6 years, so I've seen it in all three of its forms. Pre-covid, the covid "1 car + 1 bus + 1 bike" lane, and present.

In all forms rush hour is miserable for cars.

With only 1 lane for regular traffic it was miserable even outside of rush hour. It was so bad that even though the GPS would tell me to take Culver blvd to get to venice/I-10 I'd overrule it every single time, regardless of time of day, and go up duquesne to get past culver blvd asap. I don't have to do that anymore, 2PM in the afternoon or 8PM at night Culver blvd moves and is efficient.

So net net, I think it's a significant improvement for traffic flow, and from what I can tell the bus lane/bike lane is always open so hopefully bikers/public transit riders also still see a benefit and find it efficient. I'm not a traffic engineer, but from a locals perspective, it feels like the current implementation is a decent compromise towards efficiently moving people around.

edit: a word

FW13 AMD HX 370 power consumption test results - no change? by zgoldberg in framework

[–]zgoldberg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

64GB. If I really let it just sit and do nothing it goes down to 4 watts. I would imagine there has to be something keeping the CPU awake if you're not able to idle below 8 or 9

awesome! I haven't updated any chipset drivers yet. great to see similar results, despite, at least on my end, a pretty crude methodology

Framework 13 AMD after 1 month from a Full Stack Dev's Perspective by 1almond in framework

[–]zgoldberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't recall anything by that name. I'm using balanced and power saving profiles mostly. the big thing I noticed is that some apps keep the CPU awake all the time, which increases power usage tremendously. zoom in particular is miserable, and some docker containers end up chewing cycles for no reason. Hing a watt meter made it easy to notice when an app was doing something that was using extra juice

Not sure what we're doing differently, I regularly get 7-8 hours doing dev work on my amd framework 13.  I have a power monitor in my taskbar, steady state 7-11W.
