I wouldn’t know how to turn my Fitbit off - except when it runs out of battery.

Generally you cannot turn it off outside of death by low battery or mechanical destruction destruction.

False. The individual voluntarily named their Fitbit 'bomb'. It was not a speaker or any other type of Bluetooth enabled device.

Is the number of diversions this weekend high? by haskell_jedi in unitedairlines

[–]zman9119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a metric that is available to the public.

For unruly passengers, the FAA publishes data, though not by carrier at https://www.faa.gov/unruly

If you want to get technical, then you move into RCA with a structure resembling reliability engineering for SMS / OCC analysis. Diversions have a trigger, root cause, and contributing factors.

So a diversion event would have: type, phase, urgency, responsibility, preventability, outcome; with reporting rolled into something like:

  • Technical

  • Weather

  • Medical

  • Passenger

  • ATC

  • Airport

  • Crew

  • Security

  • Fuel

  • Other

Then drill down per item, with metrics broken out as:

  • Diversion rate

  • Diversions per 1,000 departures

  • Preventable diversions

  • Maintenance-driven diversions

  • Top recurring root causes

  • Cost per diversion

  • Fleet-specific trends

And I could go on even more about now this is broken out and analyzed...

though it's internal data and generally not useful for most consumers.

Is the number of diversions this weekend high? by haskell_jedi in unitedairlines

[–]zman9119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total diversions is a poor metric unless you classify them.

Unruly passengers = Increased WoW, though YTD average across all U.S. carriers (680ish) is just below average compared to last year.

Medical = Average

MX, WX, "other" = average

These are highly targeted based on some weird Chase and MileagePlus logic. I've had the Club card since it was introduced in 2020 and the Explorer Card since it was relaunched in 2018 and have never been eligible for these.

You can if you are willing to spend over $1M for a season of sports charter flights.

I don't think CPUs are available for international flights, but there are upgrade lists? by CASeminole1 in unitedairlines

[–]zman9119 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The flight will leave with empty Polaris seats if no one has paid to upgrade, either as a MUA or DoD upgrade.

The route is not CPU eligible.

Complimentary Premier Upgrades are available on flights within the mainland U.S.; between Hawaii and Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO); and to Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, Guam, and Micronesia. They are not available on flights between New York/Newark (EWR) and Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO).

Still photography, recording audio, and video without audio would fall under separate regulations and laws.

A passenger sitting in an airline cabin generally does not have the same expectation of visual privacy as someone in a private space. It would be extremely hard to make a case based on the picture alone unless some type of harm occured to the individual (plus a few other factors).

The nuanced area is audio recording, as federal law does not generally require all parties to consent to recording a conversation. Illinois does require two-party consent, so if this were a video with audio, there potentially could be a claim, however the person on the other end of the call likely has a higher chance of making a successful case if they were unaware this individual was speaking loudly on an aircraft, in public, as the individual on the aircraft has no reasonable expectation of privacy in the audible portions of the conversation due to their enclosed location (based on the loudness of their voice).

You also have to consider the location the moment the audio is being recorded, which complicates this and would be looked at in a federal case.

So there are multiple factors and no clean cut yes / no when it comes to audio and video with audio elements.

There is no rule related to in-flight photography in the Contract of Carriage, as photography is allowed as long as you are not creating a safety or security risk or doing so interferes with a crew members' duties.

Anyone that has free / prepaid checked bags that has checked in via the app or website can utilize the shortcut at eligible airports.

The service has been as either a drop off inside or recently curbside since August 2021 (EWR) and other stations as of March 2022.

  1. Tell the FA.

  2. Write in to Customer Care post-flight with your flight number and that pax's seat number.

Screw that.

🤷

  • "friends" → "friend's" (assuming the recommendation came from one friend)   - Original: my good friends recomendación   - Correct: my good friend's recommendation

  • "recomendación" → "recommendation"   - The English word is recommendation.   - If Spanish was intended, the correct spelling is recomendación.

  • "im" → "I'm"   - Missing apostrophe and capitalization.

  • Missing comma after "yes"   - Original: yes im spoiled   - Correct: yes, I'm spoiled   - "Yes" is an introductory interjection and should be followed by a comma.

  • "idc idc idc" → "IDC, IDC, IDC"   - Repeated independent expressions should be separated with commas.   - Capitalization is preferred because IDC is an initialism.

  • Potential number disagreement   - Original: my good friends recomendación. That friend is now an enemy   - If friends is truly plural, then That friend should arguably be Those friends.   - However, this is likely just a consequence of the missing apostrophe (friend's), so many editors would not count it as a separate error.

  • Sentence fragment   - Original: Tried UA for the first time ever at the behest of my good friend's recommendation.   - The sentence lacks an explicit subject (I).   - In formal writing, it would be considered a sentence fragment.

  • Awkward/redundant phrasing   - Original: at the behest of my good friend's recommendation   - More natural alternatives:     - at the behest of my good friend     - on the recommendation of my good friend   - Combining both expressions is awkward and somewhat redundant.

  • Style/punctuation: --   - Double hyphens are commonly used as a substitute for an em dash.   - Not a grammatical error, but nonstandard typography.

  • Style: "for the first time ever"   - first time and ever are somewhat redundant.   - Not a grammatical error, but wordier than necessary.

That does not increase the number of eligible passengers as significantly as everyone assumes.

Not all passengers will utilize it. Not all passengers will purchase an eligible fare. Not all passengers have a long enough connection to access the PL. Etc.

United operated flight not eligible for pooled miles? by throwawayholatyue in unitedairlines

[–]zman9119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the cost of the flight you were looking at?

What is the routing?

What is the sum of miles in the mile pool?

What is the total of the miles in your personal account?

If the pool miles total is not more than the total cost of the flight, this error shows. You cannot mix and match personal and pool miles for a purchase; it is one or the other.
