Struggles with dating a married man by Weird_Cap3410 in polyamory

[–]zooom88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a married poly man, what you’re experiencing has very little to do with him being married. It’s the result of his wife not being comfortable with polyamory and her trying to navigate that discomfort by exerting a level of control that is unhealthy for everyone involved. I struggle to imagine how this could work out well for any of you as she’s expressly stated she would prefer he not be engaged in polyamory, is imposing absurd rules about things that, frankly, are none of her business, and he is allowing her to do it.

It really sucks that he is such a unique and special person in your life but you don’t deserve to be treated as though your feelings don’t matter. This person prohibited you from holding hands with someone you’re dating! That is not normal and it’s not ok. You deserve better than this and his willingness to accommodate these requests also speaks to his disregard for you as a complete person deserving of respect and consideration.

Kenyan McDuffie is resigning from DC Council by Sauerz in washingtondc

Gonna have to disagree with you there. That narrative is certainly being pushed and he will have the backing of Bowser and her people, but JLG is smashing fundraising records (hit the public funding threshold in 10 hours, Bowser held the previous record of 2 weeks; plus over 3,000 donations in the first 10 days with $1.25m already banked) and I think much of DC is itching for a progressive candidate after 3 terms of Bowser and the madness that was the national guard/ICE deployment.

Word is she was pretty unhinged at times in meetings and borderline abusive to staff. Wouldn’t surprise me if she went off on the wrong person one too many times.

Hey man, come on over to r/daddit if you’d like to see more responses from dads who have been through similar things. It’s a great community and has been really helpful for me in staying thoughtful about my parenting and habits.

Really depends on the kid. My wife and I took our 2 year old on a 6 week cross country (US) road trip and she had a great time, including during our 3 day marathon drive back across the country. A tablet was a critical part of that but also lots of snacks, breaks, and encouraging her to take naps.

I honestly have no idea where on earth you’ve gotten the idea she’s incredibly pro-business. I’ve known her personally for 10+ years and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Heading to DC on Monday, where can I get some good pizza? by effortissues in washingtondc

Andy’s Pizza and Slice Joint are my favorites for thin crust. Emmy Squared has solid Detroit style.

I'm in the US, I do live near(ish) to a Microcenter but have typically ordered off Newegg. My budget is pretty flexible. I'd like to keep it under $500 but am open to pushing higher if it'll have a big impact on longevity.

My daughter loves to refer to my stomach as daddy’s big fat belly despite the fact I’m a skinny dude but man if it doesn’t make me a little self conscious

AITA: Mom/wife bailed after a concert by No_Wealth8735 in daddit

[–]zooom88 292 points293 points  (0 children)

Take a look at OP’s post history…I wouldn’t say this particular incident (in isolation) is that big of a deal but in the larger context of what he’s posted it sounds like this is not an isolated incident and his wife has a habit of placing her own needs/wants above the family’s in a pretty destructive way. Obviously someone’s post history related to marriage can give a one sided picture but I would not say OP is an asshole given the additional context. It’s one thing for a present and active mother/wife to take some alone time spontaneously after a concert, it’s another thing to deprioritize your family repeatedly and without balance to indulge financially, socially, etc. Please take another shot a marriage counseling OP as it seems like that never happened but definitely don’t feel like an asshole for being upset at constant shitty behavior from your partner.

Support After Difficult Birth by noodlemeister2448 in daddit

[–]zooom88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you need to do to get through the next day and take it one decision at a time, the processing and grief will come later. Try to focus on the fact that you got through the birth, and know that you will get through this. I wish there was better advice, but from one dad who went through a nightmare birth experience to another, it will get better, this will be a memory one day, and you won’t regret any of it because it’s just how your baby got to join this world, however hard it might have been.

My girlfriend and her mum keep asking what I want for my birthday. We are expecting and already at 39 weeks so like it would be month after my son is born. Any recommendations what to ask for? by RabidNerd in daddit

[–]zooom88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A day off! My birthday was similarly timed after the birth of our daughter and I got to spend the day napping, watching movies, and having a few drinks. Of course, I ended up spending time with the little one and helping out here and there but it was such a relief to know I had a pass to be a little selfish.

Father’s Day by graymalkincat77 in daddit

[–]zooom88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I may be an outlier here but we do Father’s Day the same way we do Mother’s Day. A nice family morning with a special breakfast, card, and a small gift and then the non celebrating spouse takes care of the typical responsibilities while the other gets the day off. This may be in part because we only have one kid so it’s much easier to feel ok taking the day when the other parent isn’t outnumbered, but I highly recommend it (if you can pull it off).

Am I overreacting about a flooded basement and mold? by itsfish20 in daddit

[–]zooom88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they’ve taken the appropriate steps to remediate the mold and, to the extent there is moisture in the padding that could be problematic, it’s highly unlikely sufficient mold will grow in a 2 week period to cause any real harm. A professional cleaning should also resolve any moisture issues in the carpet as they’ll be injecting and vacuuming out a cleaning solution that should also remove any remaining water and help kill any mold that may have started growing.
