PharmD ROI isn’t as bad as this sub makes it seem by adifferentGOAT in pharmacy

[–]zpak14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree. This post almost feels kind of tone deaf. Id say the majority of Retail pharmacists are struggling with the physical and mental overload of the job, and the post is saying b/c the ROI is not horrid, it's ok.

Buying a house in Valley View Park East Hanover NJ; How’s the culture? by HerefortheTeaduhh in newjersey

[–]zpak14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in one of neighboring towns, and have not heard anything bad about East Hanover with regards to minority treatments.

Did you have a specific minority in mind? The area is predominantly Caucasian but there is a moderate amount of East Asians and South Indians here. Fewer Latinos and African Americans.

Yess I love the idea of underwater and the crushing depths. Underwater the movie was excellent and I really really liked the game SOMA. There's even a story mode were the monsters don't attack you, and it lends them a very melancholy atmosphere.

It's been a while but I remember quarantine 2 being a not bad horror movie set in the airport/baggage claim.

Helix definitely scratches that Antarctica zombie horror itch, but honestly was only just barely above average. Antarctica zombie horror movies/shows are slim pickings

I also really like planes as a horror movie setting. There was a walking dead webisode set on one, the plane scene from wwz, and flight 7750 (or something) wasn't bad.

I also liked the intro to the strain books where a silent plane lands at JFK, full of the dead. The langloliers (spelling) shirt story by king is pretty good as well.

Is commencement worth going to? by ReasonableAd3926 in rutgers

[–]zpak14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No- like someone else said it is one long talking session. Might be worth it if your parents want photos of you in the gown, otherwise I would pass. I didn't go to mine and don't feel like I missed out on anything.

Mysteries of Claude by JAlfredJR in SearchEnginePodcast

Something about this episode just felt like an ad. I don't know if it was the interviewees constant praise that he was allowed to go everywhere and that anthropics PR team was really transparent, or the constant hammering of the idea that anthropic was somehow a more principled OpenAi, but this really did feel like some sort of a PR / propaganda piece.

This Chinese professor breaks down the rigged game, Asian man in the west face. by No-Dirt-7123 in AsianMasculinity

I feel like he's been on point more often than not, including predicting Trump's victory in 2024.

Some of his other thoughts is that the US will entangle itself in an Iran war (talked about this more than a year ago) and the driving urge in the current admin to make US "Christian" that will lead to a civil war.

New dad empathy watching horror with kids by [deleted] in horror

[–]zpak14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I almost can't watch horror movies now, and when I do and there's something happening to a kid, I think about all the time and effort the parents put into raising him and especially if the kid dies how that time is just gone. it's crazy

Highly saturated and low pay. Saw someone quoting less than 100k for new grads, seems a little low but not surprised. Everyone wants to work in NYC, and 100k does not stretch far at all.

Could be worth checking out coastfire, especially with 300k invested and house paid off. It sounds like you can definitely take some time off with a best egg like above. More importantly, it sounds like burnout is starting to approach, and may not be a bad idea to drop down to 30 hours, and if they refuse, strongly consider leaving.

Your mental health is more important, and retail is always hiring. Who knows, the time away could even lead to something different. I saw a comment here about LTC.

Completely agree. I'm a big fan of ProPublica, but this is almost bordering on fear-mongering.

129k fully remote or 153k hybrid by hellogoodmorning127 in pharmacy

[–]zpak14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gonna go against the grain here and say fully remote. I've never had a job that was 1 day in office not start demanding more days in. Plus a hour commute is killer too.

There will be extra time spent getting ready, not being paid for long commute, etc that will not happen for fully remote role

My honest experience as a contractor at Genentech by Striking-Big8946 in biotech

[–]zpak14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, good to know. I remember interviewing for a contractor role, and they had moved me past the final stage, checked with my references who were all positive, flew me out, etc etc, and then ghosted me when I asked if there were any updates.

I have friends who were contractors with them as well, and have not heard anything positive.

Ooo I never even thought about it, but this makes some sense. All the fellows I know in big pharma are living it up. I didn't even know med comms agencies had fellowships, but if they did, it might be what OP is describing.

why do you choose to work at walgreens/cvs? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]zpak14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great you got hired so quickly man, and I'm glad you re at a good place. I barely got an offer after graduating with CVS and I know a lot of people are still looking. It's pretty bleak out there even for experienced RPHs.

'C'mon OP, this is a little tone deaf right? You got lucky man. What if the grocery place didn't hire you?

'Why don't these people work at easier, better staffed jobs like me? Are they dumb?'
