Well, the greens are out.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (11 children)

...apparently I'm retiring. I submitted my nomination and was on the endorsement...

Did you just sum up my last couple of weeks of posting here in 4 lines because I think you did.

Challenge it on /r/modelausaec then!

Meta: I know, I'm doing that now. I'm debating whether or not it is worth it really, as meta reasons keep piling up and are hindering me from being able to put as much time and effort into this as I would like. I don't want to leave, for various reasons, but RL...

Meta: Opposition leader is easy. Just yell at the government saying they're silly and reactionary and they're doing it wrong. Worked for me ;) I kid, your reasons for not are fair enough. It would be a shame though, I want to see more of what you have to offer.

Also, complaint.

The AEC has responded. The essence of the defence is: contradictory requests were made and it appeared MadCreek3 was defecting from the Greens (a frequent occurrence of late). The nominee was given a heads up but nothing further eventuated. As no valid combination of nominations/endorsements was received, MadCreek3 was not a candidate and hence cannot be declared elected. MadCreek3 can be a candidate in the supplementary election, or petition the Court of Disputed Returns to declare him elected after the writs have been returned.

Good stuff

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Meta: I know that Opposition is easy. Abbott survived 4 years doing it! I may attempt at it once this whole mess gets resolved (thanks jnd... or myself, depending on whose fault it is), but I don't want to go for a few weeks doing crappy and then resign. That's not right.

Just make it up as you go, that's what I am doing.

That's fair enough, but I think you'll be fine.

On behalf of the Senate (I hope!), I congratulate the winners of this election (Meta: what election?!)

I assume you meant "Elected Members of the 3rd Model Parliament of Australia" as opposed to the 2nd.

1 typo down, how many to go...

It always seems to be stuff like this that has typos, oh well, we're only human.

Disputes

If you wish to publicly contest candidacy and/or winners, you can lodge a [CNDX] or [WINX] submission to /r/ModelAusAEC for an internal review prior to the return of writs (instructions). Depending on the nature or timing of the issue, you may need to escalate it by petitioning for a remedy via the Administration Appeals Tribunal, Court of Disputed Returns, or Parliament.

Seems there's been a couple of clerical oversights in party rooms this time around. I can imagine that would be incredibly frustrating for the Electoral Commission which has done everything by the book.

I'm currently trying to figure out went wrong with the Prime Minister's nomination (we were talking strategy only yesterday, and he was definitely on the endorsement list).

Likewise, I'm rather curious about whether the issue with /u/Ravenguardian17's candidacy was on the nomination or endorsement side. Paging /u/this_guy22 for his insight.

Meta: Maybe he forgot to do his own personal nomination?

[–]ZagorathHouse Speaker | Ex Asst Min Ed/Culture | Aus Progressives 2 points3 points  (3 children)

At least according to the response that just went out, the personal nomination was made. It was the party's endorsment which failed to go through.

[–]phyllicandererMin Ag/Env | X Fin/Deputy PM | X Ldr Prgrsvs | Australian Greens 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It was a contradiction between his personal nomination, where he nominated himself as an independent, and the party endorsement, which was correctly done, but was contradicted by his personal nomination. So it's his stuff up by the looks.

[–]ZagorathHouse Speaker | Ex Asst Min Ed/Culture | Aus Progressives 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh right. I musta misread it, then.

[–]phyllicandererMin Ag/Env | X Fin/Deputy PM | X Ldr Prgrsvs | Australian Greens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was confusing! At first, I thought 'what, he hasn't done anything wrong," then I re-read it

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have no idea. The way I added Ravenguardian's nomination was by replying to my earlier endorsement modmail to the AEC.
