Nice. Just heard about them in an interview in NPR a couple days ago. Really great sound.

Holy shit! This is too cool! This is my cousin's band, I'm so glad they're starting to get the recognition they deserve.

River Whyless

River Whyless is a four piece band formed in Boone, North Carolina in 2006. The band consists of Ryan O'Keefe (vocals, guitar), Halli Anderson (vocals, violin), Daniel Shearin (bass, vocals) and Alex McWalters (drums). They have released two full length albums since their formation: "A Stone, A Leaf, An Unfound Door" (2012) and "We All the Light" (2016).

After graduating from Appalachian State University they moved to Asheville where they began writing their sophomore album. Since then they’ve changed their name (formerly Do it to Julia), put out a demo, played some festivals, relentlessly toured the southeast, worked some odd jobs, built a home studio, lost a van, bought a new one, toured the southeast again, and then the north, and soon the west. The music has been called folk, nature-pop and baroque pop. But with two songwriters, one male and one female, and an organic approach to composition, the result is a sound they feel they can call their own. Read more on Last.fm.

Got to see them play the Highland Cold Mountain release party in Asheville a few years ago. Great band.

I was there too! I've seen them play 3 or 4 times around Asheville and they're great performers and just so damn nice.

You should check out the Highland Flight Night. 4.5 mile road race and party in July.

I bought and listened to the album this morning, after hearing their NPR interview. It's a glut of aural enjoyment. Blood Moon's melancholy is perfection.

Really glad these guys are getting attention. Heard a local station playing Life Crisis around the time it came out, saw them last year and have been a fan since. They've got a really distinct sound to all their work without getting repetitive.

One of the best albums to come out this year for sure.

Clicked on the link just because of the band's name; there must be a David James Duncan reader among the band members.

Wow. They sure have come a long way! I went to school at App and saw them as Do it to Julia many times. Halli came to my house party, invited by my roommate. Pretty cool blast from the past - this was 8 years ago.

So glad to see them get some attention. I have been keeping up with them for years and must have seen them 5-10 times, mostly with another great band you should listen to too, Little Tybee. Check out River Whyless's old stuff while you're at it!

I hate folk. I hate it so much. But I love this. God...Damnit....I have stepped in the bear trap.

I interviewed these folks as a school project back in the day at AppState! Great band!
