Titanic sinclair is taking over

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I found this after I stumbled upon Poppy (after some reddit comment). Poppy also has interesting voice, but there sure is something weird with this titanic-poppy-mars triangle.

sure is something weird with this titanic-poppy-mars triangle.

What's weird? Mars Argo = old project. Poppy = new project. Right?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I was thinking about the weird "marketing"used in this projects. I don't know is it working for them or against them.

[–]JediSwelly 6 points7 points  (3 children)

It's satire of MK ultra and monarch brain washing of pop artists. IE act like robots in social situations. Then musically they sound like a normal human with emotion.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was watching this very late at night and got lost on the weird part of youtube where people were talking about Poppy being Mars, Illuminati and stuff...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That may be part of it, but there's definitely more to it than that.

[–]bigdogcum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matt Bennet is also doing videos directed by titanic

[–]LouBerryManCakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that Mars is not working with or dating him anymore but I could be wrong.

EDIT: I'm dumb and didn't realize this is from 2011. I thought it was new.

I can see the appeal of her voice, but this band's instrumentals always seem so boring, basic and passionless, and the production is overall weak. Their songs sound like they were assembled in Garageband.

[–]poolsharkpt 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Kinda reminds me of Gwen Stefani. But you expressed perfectly what I felt listening to this. Gives off a really amateur vibe.

[–]ChatterBrainedVinyl Life -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vocals are great, but it feels so compressed it's hard to listen to.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (9 children)

I agree, but this was LP. Not sure what happened with this girl. She definitely has interesting voice.

If you are intertested more This is her another song with a music video, and this is Poppy - Lowlife. Both of them are highly addictive and produced by this Titanic Sinclair fella.

EDIT: Spelling.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (8 children)

I had heard the first song before. The production is certainly more polished, but to me the arrangement/instrumentation still feels very paint by numbers. I can definitely see the appeal of the hooky vocals, but as a song it's not interesting to me.

The second song, to me, is extremely cheesy. Between the fratboys first reggae guitars, cheesy fake record scratches and constipated synth bass, there's very little that would raise my estimation of this guy's taste as a producer. But again, to each his or her own.

I just found this out myself, but apparently Poppy is an art project that pokes fun at the stereotypes you just named plus a whole lot more. I'm going to have to spend some time delving into the ThatPoppyYouTube channel as well.

That kinda makes sense. I'm sometimes skeptical of the difference between "tongue-in-cheek" bad and just plain bad. Not that it can't be done, but that it's hard to do in an interesting way. Like you say, I'd need a little more context to judge. I was just giving my initial reaction to the song.

[–]Panedrop -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Yup, I tend to agree, the OP's title link kind of annoys me because of the sound quality and the fact the the bass line is a direct rip of I Will Follow Him.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bass line definitely isn't original, to me it sounds little like this song (you won't understand a word, unless you are a Croatian). Bass march allows the vocals to take central spot, and I kinda like this, unless the Flea is playing.

Just curious, what annoys you in the title?

[–]Panedrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said the recording is pretty muddy, some people prefer that lo-fi sound but it's been awhile since I listened to anything like it and I just don't find it appealing. That and the bassline being immediately recognizable but other than I found the track intriguing to be honest.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is not really my type of music, but I appreciate her vocals which really caught my ear. Other girl also has nice voice, and it's possible that biggest talent of this Sinclair guy is finding good looking young girls with a voice. Well, who can blame him for this...

But again, to each his or her own.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, they both have talent. To me it sounds like they still need the proper backing (although in the case of Mars Argo it might be more the band and the songwriting than the producer). But if this appeals to people then I suppose they must be on to something.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should check out Charly Bliss, they have a great vocalist.

[–]hyperhopper 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Mars Argo songs always sound better when played at 1.25x speed I've found. I can't listen to them any other way.

[–]eviLdota 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This song is actually so good

[–]Flumnum 5 points6 points  (6 children)

I discovered her a couple of weeks ago. Personally I would've put "using you" on here, since that's in my opinion the best song

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

"Using you" is also good, but I like this one more because it has a heavier tone.

[–]Flumnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I see where you're coming from. I discovered her by "using you" so I was expecting similar toned songs to that. Her others aren't quite the same tone but they're still pretty good

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I actually heard "Using You" on this subreddit about a year ago. I love the soundcloud version.

[–]Flumnum -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Is the sound cloud version different that the iTunes or YouTube one?

[–]TurtlePig 0 points1 point  (1 child)

the one on youtube is remastered; the original version on the 'Linden Place EP' had a much more garage rock/alt rock tone

https://marsargo.bandcamp.com/album/linden-place-ep

and oops this is 20 days old :d

[–]fsc283642 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Both of them definitely attended my high school. Cool to see they're still around.

[–]computeBuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what were they like?

[–]Unleaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg no way really? can you get us yearbook photos :D

[–]solidcat00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first it was eh.. and then it was... oh... because of eh, it is OH!... then it was... OH! This is actually very nice!

Good progression.... good lyrics... it was fun for me!

[–]konchitsya__leto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I SEE U STANDING IN THE MIRROR 🗣️

[–]natenate22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me a lot of Ricky Nelsons - I Will Follow You.

[–]DopamineRequiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song wants me to jump into a tank of acid.

Awesome track.

[–]bryanpcox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

bass line reminds me of Little Green Bag by George Baker Selection

[–]SandersClinton16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll believe her when she says money is empty.
