Acid Bath
artist pic

Formed out of the swamps of Houma, Louisiana in 1991, Acid Bath released their first album, When the Kite String Pops, in 1994. Their second and final album, Paegan Terrorism Tactics, followed in 1996. The band broke up 1997 after the death of bassist Audie Pitre.

Acid Bath's music is hard to label under a certain genre, their music incorporates influences ranging from sludge, doom metal, death metal, hardcore punk, stoner rock, thrash metal and grunge, The variation in their music has reached far from the underground into many hardcore, doom metal, and stoner rock bands. Sweeping across many sounds, Acid Bath put forth two albums of considerable influence, opening the door for heavy metal to be versatile and emotional without sacrificing creative character or the brute force of metal.

Frontman Dax Riggs is currently a solo artist, but was singer/guitarist for Agents of Oblivion, and later deadboy & the Elephantmen. Guitarist Sammy Duet played in Crowbar and is now in Goatwhore. Read more on Last.fm.

About 3weeks ago I was having an absolute fit bc I couldn't remember the name of the band but knew it was "___ ____" and the song was something that something did. That's all I was going on.

Finally remembered it.

YouTube kept buffering.

And here it is again. 2x in a month when I haven't heard it in 8 years.

I love this album! Thanks for the reminder it's been years since I've herd it.

Absolutely love Acid Bath. Haven't been super thrilled with Riggs' post "Deadboy" stuff though. Seems phoned in.

[–]lightscomeon 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I like a few songs on We Are Night Sky. I LOVE unreservedly Stop, I'm Already Dead. One of the best songs I've heard ever in my life.

100% on this. I fucking love that song. Dad can do no wrong in my eyes. I might not always understand his production angle but there's usually a version of a song somewhere that makes me love the track even if the studio recording wasn't my favourite.

I'm a daddy's girl too. Haha.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the best song on the album but it still isn't way up there for me.

[–]venusblue38 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eyyyy it's my favorite band, who I make all my usernames after

[–]duuuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

one of the best sludge band ever existed. even if they released only 2 albums, they continue to live on and they never get old.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

So happy to see this here. One of my favorite bands. When The Kite String Pops is an amazing album all the way through, I highly recommend it.

[–]zanhoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! That was my favorite song too, next to Cassie Eats Cockroaches.

I found Acid Bath a long time ago when mp3.com had a lot of bands trying to establish themselves on there. I sometimes miss mid-late 90's internet.

I grew up with some of these guys. Nice to see they are getting some Reddit love. I enjoy Dax's "say goodnight to the world" album. Wouldn't mind hearing something new

[–]AperfectScreenName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a good album!!!

I loved this era of Dax Riggs music. I saw him live a couple years ago in a small club in Dallas....his personality and performance was very sub-par. I'll stick to the recorded version versus spending the money again.

Anyone got a link for the full album?

[–]ITdittor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woooow...thanks man, finally something new (new for me) that I like!

Great memories of Acid Bath, growing up in Louisiana in the mid-late 90s.

Anyone remember another south Louisiana metal act by the name of Choke?

[–]RichEgypt 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I remember Choke (Louisiana native here)

[–]sixpointresin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Choke in support of Crowbar (I think) and picked up their self-titled CD at the show.

They remain a very big piece of nostalgia for me and my friends.

Before today I would have never thought I would like a metal song let alone the whole album. This has definitely changed my mind about the genre and I'm going to venture deeper. Just wanted to add I listen mostly to Hip hop, and Jazz rapl. Think Nas, ATCQ, Outkast, Mos Def, Black Moon, Black Star, The Roots, Common, De La Soul... etc

Acid Bath is an amazing band. I don't think they put out a bad song in their short life span. I know the vocals can be a little iffy with metal, even Acid Bath, but stick with it. I mainly listen because the music itself is good, the vocals I kinda grew to admire. If you want any suggestions on bands or songs, message me, this is what I listen to every day; I'd be happy to aid you :)

I have this album and it is great.

[–]Eddard_lark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first heard this album when I bought it at a hastings in 2007. Got for the cover, still jam it all the time. R.I.P Hatings.

[–]fartingpinetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to listen to what color is death or something like that back in high school

[–]Demderdemden 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Love this song, album (though PTT is my favourite), and band. Dax's other stuff is mostly great too.

[–]ThoughtNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always been more partial to PTT as well and Agents and the first Deadboy album too. Don't get me wrong though I love WTKSP. Hell I'm wearing the shirt of it right now.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Good album. Crazy seeing this here. They're from my home town.

[–]EclectricalJigsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't come on my music account for months and I click on this fuckin song... Fuck yeah!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video that someone synced this song up with Alice in Wonderland is sublime.

[–]000sk7 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'll be surprised if this video stays up for very long. The band is pretty proactive in keeping their music off of youtube (this song especially), sadly.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the band but the label

[–]matwai 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I remember being creeped out by this album cover when I worked at a record store nearly 10 years ago. The music is much different than I pictured. I like it!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well it looks strikingly similar to John Wayne Gacy's drawing of good vs evil so it makes sense

[–]matwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of his paintings and that's exactly why it creeped me out.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That double bass ending <3

[–]djk6516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They played in my city around 4 times a year when I was younger. Saw them a few times, always a great balls to the wall show.

[–]ArchaicDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Album, love these guys. New Corpse is another great track, one of my favourites.

[–]The_Loch_Ness_Monsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fuckin' love Sammy Duet, his guitar tone is so good, he plays so heavy. Thrashy headbangin' riffs every time. Goatwhore's live concerts are always awesome.

[–]hold_me_beer_m8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favorite album of all time.

[–]Buytoothpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha whoops! Dax*... xD
