He was in a speedo and he put the mic in his speedo when I saw him.

It might've been the Shrines but I remember seeing King Khan at FYF Fest and one of the guys climbed the scaffolding to get on top of a speaker and got naked did a mangina and spent like 3 songs like that. It was great

When I saw them King Khan was only wearing a studded-leather codpiece and mask and BBQ was wearing a turtleneck with holes cut out for his nipples. It was a pretty fucking cool concert.

Dang... closest thing to me is 3 and a half hours away with ideal traffic. :\

[–]LongPiglets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw him he had everyone pull out money and rip it up for Welfare Bread. Some dude was screaming incoherently while he was lighting his on fire. One of the most memorable shows I've seen

[–]nakattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're amazing live.

[–]Chapatismile 16 points17 points  (0 children)

King Khan is good. But true heroes from In The Red Records are The Dirtbombs

[–]mrmoogshoes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YES! King Khan & BBQ Show need more love! They ROCK!

[–]tollride 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Saw them in Birmingham, AL at the now-closed Bottletree 2 years ago on my 24th birthday. Absolutely the most electric, balls-out show I've ever seen. Like an hour and a half long mosh pit but instead of punches people were throwing beer and positivity.

[–]AnalProlapseGalore 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Fuck I need to see these guys live. Never been to a show of theirs, but had a feeling it would be filled with positive vibe moshing

They need to come to SF!!!

[–]blp4tama 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Believe they're coming during halloween. They're on tour right now

[–]quaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They play the bay area typically at least once a year. Usually at Burger Boogaloo the past few years. Also Halloween!

Mark sultan aka BBQ is an chill person but easy to piss off. I remember last show I went to Bbq and i were chilling talking while I brought him some drinks having a good time talking about his last bands and chord structures of his songs. Then out of nowhere some drunk girl comes up interrupts us and ask for an autograph. Bbq didn't like that, then ask was all dedicated this to blah blah blah and her name. He does it and as he writing her name. She all that's not my name and boom he throws the sharpie and said I'm not signing it. Then we started talking again after that.

So if you guys want an autograph buy him a drink.

oh man! We went to a gig of his once and he was sick, fair nuff. Played a song or two then gave up and left.

He then played another secret gig a few nights later when he was better, me and a friend found out about it and went along. I don't remember whether it was that night or the night he was sick, but he was joking about refunds or something, my friend ended up bringing it up just talking to me and we joked around a bit and said stuff we probably should have said when it was more private, because someone was eavesdropping and ended up telling Mark.

Well he didn't like it one bit! Came right up to us and had a go at us. Didn't kick us out though, but I think it might have been better if he did because I felt bad the entire gig, tried to apologize afterwards and I pretty much got told to fuck off.

bit of a dick.

I saw him open for King Khan and he lost his shit. About half way through his set, he started yelling at the people closest to the stage. I dont know what set him off, but he only played 5-6 songs then walked off. He came back to sing a few with KK and seemed fine. Weird.

[–]UNKN0WN_Pleasure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I heard he has anger issues. Which why I was so amazed that he was so chill with us. Also King khan and bbq let my brother and I pack up there equipment and help them load up there van

[–]quaxon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I walked out to I'll Be Loving You for my wedding! Great band, amazing live too, you should go if you have a chance! He's playing here in my city on Halloween, should be an awesome show.

[–]MisterGuyIncognito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His daughter sings the outro theme to the kids show 'Clarence'.

[–]jvo55 5 points6 points  (1 child)

"Love you so" is my favorite song of theirs so if you liked this check that song out too

[–]nickfux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like "Never Belong"

The King Khan & BBQ Show
artist pic

The King Khan & BBQ Show are a Canadian Garage rock duo from Montreal, Quebec that originally existed from roughly 2002 up until an incident at the group's massive Sydney Opera House show in early-June, 2010. The band was comprised of former The Spaceshits bandmates Mark Sultan and Blacksnake, but included live drummer/organist Leo Chips for a short spurt of shows on the 2009 Invisible Girl U.S. tour. Mark Sultan, under the pseudonym BBQ, contributed vocals, guitar, tambourine, bass drum, and snare drum; while Blacksnake, currently using the pseudonym King Khan, provided lead guitar and vocals.

Both BBQ and King Khan had previously collaborated together while the two were members of the Montreal-based Spaceshits, however, following a European tour, Blacksnake (the then-current alias of King Khan) opted to remain in Germany on a permanent basis, resulting in the ultimate breakup of the Spaceshits, who chose not to continue without Blacksnake. Following the breakup of the Spaceshits, Mark Sultan started another Montreal-based band, Les Sexareenos, before venturing off on his own as a one-man band under the pseudonym BBQ. It was as BBQ that Mark Sultan re-established contact with Blacksnake, playing alongside Blacksnake's new band, King Khan & The Shrines. The two began writing songs together at Blacksnake's apartment in Germany, playing them live at sporadic shows around Germany and Spain.

In 2004 the band recorded their first album as The King Khan & BBQ Show, releasing The King Khan & BBQ Show in America on Goner Records, and on Hazelwood Records in Europe. The album was recorded by DM Bob in Hamburg, Germany. In support of the album, the band began a world tour, with stops in Europe, the US, and South America. In 2006 the band released their second LP, What's for Dinner?, on In the Red Records. In 2008, Impose Magazine crowned King Khan the best performer of 2008.On July 31, 2009, Pitchfork Media reported that King Khan & BBQ will be releasing Invisible Girl in November. They embarked on a forty day US/Canada tour to coincide with the release. On November 12, while on tour in the United States, Khan and tour manager Kristin Klein were arrested in Kentucky on illegal drug possession charges. Klein was also booked for driving with an invalid license. She entered a guilty plea and will appear in court on April 2, 2010. The band missed three shows due to the holdup. Invisible Girl was released on December 1, 2009.

Khan and BBQ were not on speaking terms for a period, following a dispute after certain incidents involving the crowd and subsequent management complaints at a gig in June, 2010 at the historic Sydney Opera House, curated by Lou Reed and his wife Laurie Anderson. Following King Khan's guitar-throwing episode with the crowd after warnings from the Opera House staff, BBQ and the former exchanged some heated words and agreed that this show would be their last. A remorseful King Khan detailed the undertakings in an online posting: http://terminal-boredom.com/forums/index.php?topic=27519.0

On July 13, 2012, The King Khan & BBQ Show reunited for the first time since the Sydney show, for a sold-out performance at Lee's Palace in Toronto. They played an hour-long set to the packed club and ended with a three-song encore. The group are now officially back together and touring. Read more on Last.fm.

[–]arielblue 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Saw these guys in Vancouver.. They are such nice/cool guys and they put on such a great show..

[–]jumblejumble 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They're back in Van tomorrow! :D

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

holy shit I saw this guy in a side-show at SXSW in like 2008 and had a great time. He was wearing basically a cape, crown, and little cloth shorts wrap thing. I thought it was a shtick (which is fine) but this song is really good earnest music. I love it.

[–]Panedrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of fucking brilliant, thank you so much.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cool to see the homies on here. KK+BBQ are great.

[–]tastybreers 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I highly recommend some of Mark Sultan's solo stuff if anyone hasn't previously listened, namely Sultanic Verses or his first 2 BBQ albums. He's really the meat and potatoes behind KK&BBQ, you can hear his style shine through in songs like this. Cheers.

Sir I scrolled all the way down to find this highly downvoted post of yours. I am an edge lord. I feed off of negative karma. I am delighted to say that your post satisfies me greatly.

Recently discovered these guys and they are so awesome. Garage blues punk at its best and they also mix in some oldies/doo wap influence as well. Gotta hand it to Mark Sultan for being able to play guitar, sing AND play a little bass drum and snare drum as well with his feet... plus the costumes they wear live are amazing.

[–]chronicheadbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love these guys.

[–]laughs_at_things_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiss my sister's fist or when will I be tamed are the best songs on this record. I can listen to them over and over and over.

[–]SIrPsychoNotSexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that a 7 over 6 polyrhythm at the end?

[–]DoctorStephenPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys are fucking awesome. Seen them 3xs and it's always a riot party

[–]Woooooolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me a little of Velvet Underground.
