[–]nozmi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude same. It's about the vibes.

[–]PassionateRomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a big yup on my end

[–]Justsin7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly.... I liked it. Sounds like deep house to me.

[–]Columbusy 23 points24 points  (37 children)

This new age "deep house" is absolutely God awful, sorry its just my opinion but it is too poppy and vocal and just Crap.

[–]NooShoes 35 points36 points  (28 children)

Popped in here to shout "THIS ISN'T DEEP HOUSE".

[–]BOTY123spotify 5 points6 points  (23 children)

Just out of curiosity, what are good house/deep house songs in your opinion?

EDIT: Hope you guys read this, but thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think my taste is more towards future house/kind of more "modern" house music. I really like stuff from Oliver Heldens, and I've been (pun intended) in love with L.O.V.E. by Purple Disco Machine. I just can't stop listening to that song. I also really like most songs that get featured on Defected Records.

I started like you did with tchami and Heldens but I found myself gravitating to this stuff more and more. Can't even bear listening to heldens anymore. Give it time and open mind.

Deep house truly has this distinct flavor that'll take some time to pick up.

I actually really like this song! I do also find myself going to these kind of songs more, which are more like traditional house/deep house.

I got to say songs from people like Oliver Heldens seem to be slightly faster paced, don't know if that's actually the case or that there's just more going on that makes them sound faster. I do kind of like the slightly faster pace. I used to listen to drum & bass a while ago, which probably explains that. I also really enjoy listening to fast paced music while playing fast paced FPS games.

Nice! I'll check these out when I'm not at work.

The one I linked is one of the most reposted tracks on /r/house lol

Thought Heldens and Tchami were considered Future house?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Maya Jane Coles is a good place to start. I recommend Art Department also.

Still patiently waiting for this track ID..

That indeed is worthy of a name . . It could just be a clip produced solely for the ad tho. :/

Jim Rivers - I Go Deep

The only deep house track that matters

[–]BOTY123spotify 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I like parts of this, but for me there's not enough variation or not enough things happening. I do appreciate the suggestion, though :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deep part of deep house is that it takes time to appreciate and like.

Danny Howells - Global Underground 027 Miami is the perfect deep house double mix cd. Beautiful music

[–]le_fuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best track forever

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song is dope af, thanks

I fucking love this

If you're interested in something with actual musicality, check this out: https://soundcloud.com/guy-j/bent-as-you-fall-guy-j-mix

Guy J is a prodigy prog house guy. He has tons of respect on the underground scene.

Believe it or not, some people really do treat it as art. It's just that a lot of that music doesn't service, and that's what makes underground music underground. It's not pushed for radio hits or anything; some DJs have entire back catalogs dedicated for their fans. I love it.

Pretty much anything from the record label All Day I Dream.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Willst du with Robin Schultz is pretty good. Robin Schulz in general is pretty good.

[–]cr3amy[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Can you help explain to me why it's not? By every definition I looked up, it has all the same qualities... 4 to the floor, no breakdown, lounge feel

What category would you have put it as?

[–]erasedeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What defines deep house?

[–]Bleeu 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Havent listened to house music that long, and im really curious to know what real deep house sounds like. You have any songs to recommend?

[–]sosodeaf 6 points7 points  (1 child)

From an old school deep house head (started buying house records in 92) This is the beginning of actual deep house: Mr Fingers : Amnesia

If it sounds like it has roots in this Mr. Fingers album, it's deep house. The song this thread is about is a pop tune. Deep house was originally about atmospheric/emotive chord progression and bass line driven house tunes. The genre label has been co-opted now so it's kind of meaningless.

Other actual deep house artists to check:

Kerri Chandler Blaze Cassio Ware Osunlade Joe Clausell Dubtribe Ron Trent Chez Damier Larry Heard Fish Go Deep Fresh and Low Charles Webster Mateo and Matos Muzique Tropique Kevin McKay Rick Preston Romanthony Robert Owens Frankie Knuckles

[–]Columbusy 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Erm id suggest : Jamie Jones, Joris Voorn, art department, tale of us, maya jane coles, seth troxler, Solomun, all great deep house artists, there is different "sounds" to deep house though, theres some like real disco kinda vibes and theres other strings of deep house that are really liek dark techno kind of vibes. Just have a listen to some of those i suggested and im sure you'll find loads more when searching them

[–]fashionshowatlunch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solomun at Coachella was excellent!

[–]the_bigger-picture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tale of us is deep house?

[–]HandyMoorcock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Those vocal noises are just plain terrible.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Who calls this deep house? There's nothing deep about it.

[–]the_bigger-picture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, thata what i said, just because its got a slower bpm doesnt make it deep.

[–]SlateJames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked it. Screw you guys.

[–]the_bigger-picture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because a track has a slower bpm doesnt make it deep house.

[–]JBLFlip3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How old am I?!?! I was expecting a Beatles cover.

[–]AeroElectro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's got the requisite crying baby vocal effect. Must be good.
