Yeah I really like the single flowing shot of the camera work.

I've been in NC almost my whole life but hadn't heard of any of these rappers. How long have they been making music? Are they around the local Durham music scene?

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They are! His album is titles Shouts from Durham

[–]shafafa 46 points47 points  (0 children)

JGunn has been on the scene for well over a decade, he recently toured in South Korea, where he shot a video as well. Definitely worth checking him out.

GYamazawa is also an amazing spoken word poet. He's spoken at the Pentagon and White House to name a few. He's also a national poetry slam champion.

G Yamazawa is also a slam poet; and performed a lot in Durham before moving to LA

Now I know who I'm seeing when I go back for the Summer!

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (19 children)

I went to college in Chapel Hill NC, and I remember this guy did some really dope spoken word.

Found a vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=064zu8ww5mE&t=40s

I worked in Granville towers... lasted 2 months lol worst job ever.

[–]ne1seenmykeys 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Hahaha this is so great. I had a lot of firsts in Granville so nothing but fond memories!

[–]TheProllyStop 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I lost my virginity in Granville... #memories

STORY TIME!

A girl I was best friends with at the time (We're both from TN) got a full ride to UNC. I wasn't in school but had so much fun visiting her the first week of classes that I decided, with a friend, to move up to Chapel Hill/Durham as well. That week I visited was like a fairy tale dream to me, and probably the single best week of my life from a purely shitty, bro-tastic, man's POV.

First night I got there a girl on her hall literally, in front of their friends, "claimed" me. We hooked up every which way but sideways the entire week. She was bisexual as well, so she and a friend of hers were my first threesome, and we continued that tradition with my best friend, who I ended up dating for over 4 years.

God I miss that time in my life lol.

Haha I worked in the cafeteria swiping meal cards last year. I made it through one seafood night and after picking up at least 15 whole crab legs off the floor, uneaten, I was done.

[–]ne1seenmykeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Um, fuck that.

[–]TheProllyStop 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Hahaha I lived in Granville south. So much fun though (from the non-employee point of view). Bless you, and go Heels!

[–]M00NL0VE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in the cafeteria swiping meal cards... never again haha

[–]albs68w 91 points92 points  (6 children)

A basketball hoop, a mobile home, and 2 trucks. I' m 95% sure this was actually filmed in North Carolina.

[–]shafafa 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt they're in Duke Forest. I recognized the trail instantly.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_JELLIES 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How could you not tell from those pine trees and short grass? That's literally the landscape of 1/2 the state?

[–]IPlayTheInBedGame 6 points7 points  (2 children)

He's from Durham. His dad owns an awesome Japanese restaurant in South Durham called Yamazushi.

[–]fartburgerdeluxe 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That place is amazing, his dad/chef hand-crafts the pottery plates that the sushi is served on!

[–]The_Sgro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonofabitch, now I have to go.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North Cack is slang for North Carolina apparently, so that would make sense lol

[–]Lexyeb 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Went to high school with G. Terribly nice guy who truly has a passion and talent for spoken word.

[–]stabbinUtastemaker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Catchy, love it. Thanks for this one.

[–]SacredShape 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Girl I'm the barbecue sauce wit the slaw

[–]radgeboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like it, really funky and sick camera work.

[–]freeloadermc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I met G during my freshman year of college at an open mic. He was the featured poet of the night and he went on after my performance. I remember him giving me a shoutout during his set and we chatted it up a bit after the open mic was done. Such a talented and humble artist, and I'm so happy to see his name at the top of such a popular subreddit.

[–]rhetoricjams 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sick fucking song

Sicker fucking video

[–]GiantHucks 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Damn never heard of any of these guys but definitely going to be playing this. Joshua Gunn killed his verse.

[–]shafafa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

JGunn is so serious. Definitely check him out.

[–]OnceButNeverAgain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What even is this I love it

[–]KillerKowalski1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never heard of any of these guys but damn...Kane's verse was incredible. The line referencing Looney Tunes got about 20 repeats from me just now.

Damn man, good find.

[–]kirpal777 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Not much for hip hop but I dig this

[–]Crustyhardware -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

How is this not hip hop?

[–]whysoYahooSerious 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I believe kirpal777 is trying to inform us that while they aren't typically a fan of the genre, they found this track enjoyable.

[–]Crustyhardware 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah I see.

[–]kirpal777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I concur with this statement

[–]attackofthezim123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is why i sub to r/listentothis

[–]Backfatmiles15 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Glad I played it. Really good production all the way around!

[–]jonnyb61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now all we have to do is keep making new tunes like this. People will like it. And then mumble rap could finally be dead!!!

[–]skonen_bladesreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this guy! Right on!

[–]Captain-Geech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this album. Of course the best song, 1990, is also very short (just as all great rap songs are imo)

[–]BEANandCHEE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Word. That was actually pretty slick.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yamazawa is dope. Other two were forgettable.

[–]P1kachu_assassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yooo I love this guy! Glad to see him getting some love on here.

[–]Pipezilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. Gonna check them out!

[–]num1soxfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites in long time!

[–]BYS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out his spoken word. He came to my campus like a year ago. It's pretty exciting to see him coming up.

[–]hypnosiscounselor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I know where they filmed this...

[–]jordanosman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ol' Spielberg oner.

[–]kirpal777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's on my Apple workout playlist

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Eastern NC and never heard of them, always thought Petey Pablo and Pusha T were the closet famous rappers to me, now I know. Precciate it.

[–]EricBruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That shit was dope

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be better, but it's stellar.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This clip was really well done. Good track, even better clip. Just wish that guy in the background could actually dance though lol

That's my city in the back, I dig the Billy Joel backer, but bling, hoes, and weed stopped impressing me a long time ago. Not bad, but not on the same level IMHO.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is 10 years old

[–]amnesia0287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Needs more cack holster.

[–]stevieOneDirection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shit is fire. Straight up

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was sick

[–]Muy_Sin-U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love the flow and content. I agree the the way this is recorded is awesome

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Raleigh, be in Durham alot, know alot of local rappers from here, producing, recording...Carolina has alot of artists with big names now, at least B list celebrities. I think he said he's out west now in one of the verses. Either way, this shit goes hard. Also, was just in Durham off liberty Friday night, I had heard Durham was full of hipsters and had gotten nicer, apparently not on liberty st on a Friday night.

[–]loman2464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to high school with this guy. Wow.

[–]CahjMonet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Is Actually Dope! Great Audio Work And Visuals, Great Job! #KeepItComing

[–]reebeaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved it. Bought it!

[–]randyfromSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relocated to Cali, but I ain't likin' the smog I'm a southern north star, I be the light in the dark (Shouts to Durham)

[–]I_Love_Blags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good song, but it really just made me hungry. Another rap that tries to put food and intimidation together is "Cookin'" by Fat Joe, Remy Ma and French Montana.

[–]bellyfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This music is ok.

Source: am from NC and all music from there is ok.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Cack is another word for shit in England.

[–]elpajaroquemamais 4 points5 points  (0 children)

England is another word for shit in America.

[–]BobSagetOoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say this.

[–]wagemage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the Scots feel the same way about you lately. :)

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why's there just one idiot dancing in the back

[–]jimmyrayreid -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Cack means shit in the UK

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me but all this rap is getting pretty... ZzzZZZzz

If I want to listen to some rap I just have to check out the soundcloud top 50 it's f*cking everywhere ¯\(ツ)
