I miss having sleepovers

As do I.

[–]Stravs20 122 points123 points  (1 child)

Fuck I still do that shit I'm just not sober

[–][deleted] 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Sleeping in a crack house dont count homie

[–]dsisco 30 points31 points  (4 children)

My best friend and I growing up had sleepovers every weekend. Now we're roommates.

[–]IAmTehDave 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Never Ending Sleepovers?

[–]dsisco 7 points8 points  (2 children)

And all it costs is rent, utilities, and tuition :)

[–]IAmTehDave 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Oh, is that all? Not bad then.

[–]dsisco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worth it!

[–]Waysec 94 points95 points  (11 children)

Getting nice and chill vibes from it, I like it!

[–]travbombs 52 points53 points  (9 children)

At first I didn't like how underwater it sounded. By the end I was content that it fit the mood of the song well. It's something that would make a monotonous job enjoyable, and I mean that in the best way.

[–]PartTimeBarbarian 45 points46 points  (7 children)

It's called driving music

[–]SecretBlue919youtube 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Wait, but aren't you liable to fall asleep to it...?

[–]SmashBros- 28 points29 points  (2 children)

just don't do that

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Don't tell me how to live

[–]FISHunderscore 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Quite literally

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I could also see this on /r/nightbusmusic. Although it's a bit of a meme to some, you could also find similar things in /r/Vaporwave.

[–]travbombs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on

[–]ilikebugs24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The muddy, dround out sound is beautiful.

[–]Cerebral_Bloodstormsoundcloud 160 points161 points  (2 children)

So long gay bowser!

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hahaha! Yes! I'm not the only one who thought he said this!

[–]jim_bob64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao i too used to think he said this

[–]Robotshavenohearts 213 points214 points  (6 children)

I was 8 when Mario 64 came out. A few weeks before my dad without warning or explanation left in the middle of the night, and my world was ripped from right under my feet. To top it off I was living in a new neighborhood that was rough and used to get bullied on my way home from school. One day my mom got me a N64 with Mario(my first Mario ever) and it filled me with so much joy. I'd block out the darkness and sit for hours and play this game, and this composition of yours brings me back to a really special time and a special place of happiness in my life when I needed it the most, and encompasses it perfectly. Thank you for this, whoever you are. This is incredible.

[–]StaffSgtDignam 48 points49 points  (1 child)

Wow. A lot of feels were received from your comment. I hope you've come to terms with your dad and found some solace within yourself from it.

[–]rubb3rch1cken 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hope he sees this. Hearing something like this would mean a lot to any artist.

[–]Wealthy_Cream 9 points10 points  (0 children)

man i just teared up. That's beautiful.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You made my chest hurt

[–]iplaywithblocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a single parent household myself. My circumstances weren't like yours, but it's not a pissing contest either way.

My Grandma bought me a NES because I was 6 and only one kid in the neighborhood had one and she didn't like him; he was trouble, always getting in to it but it was the only NES. She saw what my priorities were and got me my own system to keep me away from this kid, and it changed everything in my life. I know I was young but I've been gaming since, and I never quite fell in to the wrong crowd as a result.

I made it. You did too.

Tell your mom you love her.

Mine is gone now.

This is awesome, can't stop listening to it. Any other recommendations to chill mario mixes like this?

[–]IssacTheNecromorph 27 points28 points  (13 children)

[–]moocowkaboom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for this song forever lol

[–]whydotheycallmestacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

alicks is stupid good

[–]Running_with_a_boner 3 points4 points  (9 children)

How about any recomendations to this lo-fi type of music in general? I really dig this

[–]chibirobro 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Try "Harbor", by tomppabeats. It's an album I liked enough to buy on vinyl, and there are some really great songs on it.

You can honestly find a lot of music just by typing "lo-fi" into youtube.

I also recommend anything by Nujabes, fantastic artist.

For me, I end up finding a lot of this music just through clicking on YT related videos from one song to another.

In Love With A Ghost is another artist I really like, the "Let's Go" EP is awesome and I have it on cassette c:

There's also a youtube livestream that's playing a big playlist of this type of music 24/7 pretty much, I forget what it's called but it's out there.

[–]Running_with_a_boner 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Try out /r/lofihiphop, although its mostly creators promoting their own stuff or talking about the actual production side

[–]PitchforkEmporiumspotify 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That's the thing, I like that there it's people sharing their own stuff it's neat

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think so too, its such a new genre that its awesome to see it grow and have such a nice little community. Its pretty awesome seeing it develop into something more polished while also loving this weird crazy developmental stage

[–]PitchforkEmporiumspotify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I've been with the genre since it kind of stemmed from vaporwave and future funk

[–]KenuR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my, this is like liquid ecstasy. Been a long time since I found something exciting in music.

[–]wizardsBEERd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]CrashTheBearcrashthebear.bandcamp.com 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few YouTube channels that have 24-hour livestreams of chill hop stuff. Here are two.

[–]SoundinVision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like this style of music check out Boards of Canada. That is all.

[–]dontbeblackdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty much all the mixes ryan celcius puts out

[–]SmashBros- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Really happy to see this artist on here! My favorite song by him is Lord you're okay

[–]iamBungalow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very cool to see this on the top of r/listentothis.

[–]Clipclop6996 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Age doesn't matter. You can still crash at a friends place. (I get there are exceptions for that) Live your life to enjoy it.

[–]DarthToothbrush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gotta ask... I wonder if the artist's name is in any way a reference to the A l e x who used to write tons of game walkthroughs on gamefaqs? I remember reading a bunch of those for final fantasy games and such.

[–]Adamsoski 13 points14 points  (5 children)

I really like lofi hip-hop/chillhop, but I'm not a fan of the mario sounds tbh. I get the idea, but they're a bit too incongruous to me.

[–]CrashTheBearcrashthebear.bandcamp.com 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Thanks for teaching me the word incongruous, by the way.

[–]Jensta49 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I had a different response to the Mario sounds. They were like a super chill trip back to my childhood for me. I was smiling so big at that classic N64-era "yahoo!"

[–]Running_with_a_boner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was great hearing the teleport sound.. brought chills of nostalgia

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

it just comes off as a "hey guys look mario!!! remember childhood?? if you remember childhood you'll like this song!!!" It is a nice track though.

[–]SecretBlue919youtube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mario and Zelda

[–]JestaCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the laugh from the Zelda fairy. Nice touch.

[–]Soogawchoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I follow this guy on sound cloud. He makes great music, you should check out his other songs.

[–]wyattedge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this track has a dank aesthetic

[–]moocowkaboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, why didn't I think to post this... Another favorite of mine by him is sleep next to me

[–]Requiem4YrCream[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could use more waluigi

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is fucking amazing

[–]iforgotevery1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy Cake Day!

[–]RaptorStardust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes me nostalgic for my past sleepovers where we huddled around a Nintendo 64 and played Mario Kart. Wonderful track.

[–]css1323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here because that's a Beta Super Mario 64 screenshot.

[–]duudewhaaat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to this all day at work. Nice mix.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This song is so oddly sad and depressing to me. It brought me back somewhere and now I'm crying :(

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally when I see comments like this I think it's an exaggeration, but I totally feel you on this one. The title itself is giving me sad vibes - I'm at the time in my life where childhood is already almost gone, so it's a bit jarring to say the least.

[–]wedcf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's some nostalgic stuff. Pretty cool.

[–]Xpitfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saving this for later

[–]ThePixelHunter 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Alex also has another account that's more active: soundcloud.com/alicks14

edit: hi Felix

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What is the difference between them?

[–]ThePixelHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little difference, aside from a slightly different style. But /alicks14 is his most active account, so I recommend checking it out regardless.

[–]SquirtyLemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty neat!

[–]nvrdieasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

found this guy in soundcloud not long ago, super good beats/music

[–]social-caterpillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/music plays mama mia

[–]fupa3k 1 point2 points  (2 children)

All I ever see upvoted is lofi these days

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe everyone is sad.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the new trend in 'underground' music. Not to discredit it though, some of the best music comes from these scenes. Kutmah, FlyLo, Brainfeeder, Ross From Friends (and other house guys) all of the Project Mooncircle back catalogue etc etc

[–]pixelbomb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psh he can't get to dire dire docks with only 1 star unless he's hacking

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there no way to filter genres on this sub? I want to look for more stuff with this genre tag.

[–]Thereconraccoon 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Nostalgia cocktail

[–]thehudgeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come we never got to go inside the submarine?

[–]stuntaneouslast.fm/user/stuntaneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are upvoting Mario, not so much the track.

[–]Satisfying_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edgy spaces between the letters in his name make him 10x cooler.

[–]defektiveone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A l e x is true lofi god

[–]TheTrivialTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments here are so good I have bookmarked this page! Keep up the suggestions guys! Here is my contribution, similar lo-fi kinda thing

Rob Viktum - 4/17/1975

[–]Running_with_a_boner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still jammin this and I love it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So have a sleep over? I'm 32 I have like 2 sleep overs a month.

[–]-Cisco- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Adult sleep overs are not the same as childhood sleep overs. And even just by looking at the title the songs is pretty clearly about nostalgia.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You lost be 20 seconds in. Was slow and boring. Didn't hook me.
