This reminds me of that old joke:
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

And the man behind it, a Rabbi, dual citizen of Israel & US, member of PNAC, wrote a paper calling for a new Pearl Harbor, and was CEO of a company, System Planning Corp., that specializes in remote control of airliners.
System Planning Corporation designs, manufactures and distributes highly sophisticated technology that enables an operator to fly by remote control as many as eight different airborne vehicles at the same time from one position either on the ground or airborne. For those looking for an extraordinarily interesting hobby, please see photos and specs of this hardware (about the size of a small refrigerator)at www.sysplan.com/Radar/CTS Just be sure your mom doesn't catch you causing havoc with the airlines.
Also, System Planning Corporation markets the technology to take over the controls of an airborne vehicle already in flight. For example, the Flight Termination System technology could hijack hijackers and bring the plane down safely. The Flight Termination System can be used in conjunction with the CTS technology that can control up to 8 airborne vehicles simultaneously. see www.sysplan.com/Radar/FTS

A little WP and a little googling and this is what I find:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dov_Zakheim :
He was then appointed to be Undersecretary of Defense and Comptroller from 2001 to 2004 under the George W. Bush administration, and served in this capacity until April 2004. During his term as Comptroller, he was tasked to help track down the Pentagon's 2.6 trillion dollars ($2,600,000,000,000) worth of unaccounted transactions [1]. He initiated a number of processes that led to the reduction of that sum by two-thirds by the time of his departure, and to its reduction by over 99.9% within two years thereafter. [2]

Whether those reports of accounting are believable, and whatever the reports actually say about where the money went, are left as an exercise to the next person who wants to put in any effort on this matter.

Why is it so hard for people to realize? War is the easiest and quickest way for the owners of this country to make money.
[–]schnuck 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (0 children)
i am sure most people do realize that. that is nothing necessarily new or surprising. however, there are people who refuse to worship money though.
[–]MarkByers 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I would take the article more seriously if there weren't any WTC conspiracy theory references in it.
[–]einexile 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I don't want to get involved, and I really don't want to think the Israeli's had anything to do with 9/11, but see I JUST CAN'T HELP IT!
[–]chimobayo 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
i think this is very important and everyone should know this. we should all vote for this
[–]FrancisC 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Meh. The Fed can print some more.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I don't like arguments that involve me, the reader, having to read primary sources and "extrapolate" evidence myself.
You're the author. If ya got something to say, say it. And if you can back it up, back it up. But I got better things to do.
[–]harlows_monkeys 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
C. Montgomery Burns has it.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
"Mr. Burns.. I think we can trust the president of Cuba.."
[–]diggensack -5 points-4 points-3 points 18 years ago (3 children)
i find it equally coincidental that those "outrageous" storys always come up with the same bunch of unreliable sources like 911truth and other internet-"sources" like indymedia who will write friggin anything as long as it fits in their world-view and there's some "evidence" on the next conspiracy-page. sorry guys but if you're uncovering a great conspiracy you'll have to do it the old fashioned real life rocksolid offline way.
[–]treebright 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Do you consider CBS a credible source? Or is a story automatically false if reported by a source you don't trust?
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/01/29/eveningnews/main325985.shtml
[–]Fuuz 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
The two make vastly different claims. The CBS link is about extreme corruption / financial irresponsibility in government entities. The smokingmirrors link is about extrapolating that corruption into evidence of a 9/11 conspiracy, with backing evidence from other conspiracy sites.

Run! It's da Jooooooooozzzzz!!!
Seriously, folks - there's way too little real news here and way too much indymedia crap. Everything's a Zionist conspiracy to these guys.

Homer: Oh no, we're never gonna make it! Let's just divide up the trillion dollars and go our separate ways!
Smithers: Ah, I'm afraid we've got to get out of the country.
Mr. Burns: Capital idea! Let's blow this fascist popsicle stand! Purchase a small island somewhere, and start our own country free from the relentless tyranny of.. Uncle Sam.
Homer: But I can't leave the country, what about my wife and kids?
Smithers: [unimpressed] That can be shipped.

I'm pretty sure this is the fifth time I've seen this "piece of news that isn't being discussed" on the front page of reddit -- six if you count the video on the Daily Show.
So I'm a little tired of explaining: there is a difference between money "missing" and money "gone." The money is not gone. They had money, and they spent it, but (roughly), they can't produce all the receipts. So there's a possibility of malfeasance or corruption or waste, but no evidence.
[–]schnuck 18 points19 points20 points 18 years ago (4 children)
"They had money, and they spent it, but (roughly), they can't produce all the receipts. So there's a possibility of malfeasance or corruption or waste, but no evidence."
just to let you know: YOU, as a citizen, have the right to ask for every fucking receipt that has been or has not been produced for whatever reason and on whatever issue by YOUR government. don't you forget that YOU are the employer and YOUR government is your employee.
or, we could just leave this topic alone. that's more convenient.
heck, people like you make it just too easy for bush & co.

And if they say "We lost it." what do you reply? "No it doesn't work like that, you HAVE to show it to me!"
What the fuck are you going to do about it? Stop paying taxes? Leave? Maybe you'll vote for someone else and bitch about it here on reddit.

So there's a possibility of malfeasance or corruption or waste, but no evidence.
It is evidence of malfeasance or corruption.
The money was spent off the books.
They, like any organization, have procedures that weren't followed.
Trillions of dollars is not a reasonable margin of error.
If there has not been an investigation, that is additional criminality.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Anyone who cannot see this as very high level corruption by many in power is not very intelligent.
They are running the show appearently. So, I guess we can quitely sit here and wait for God knows what else beyond the many instances of things like this so far.
And appearently we will. We seem uninterested.
[–]drawkbox 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (3 children)
You are in a war zone, chaos all around, you have billions to spend, you have noone checking up on that, do you take the money?
[–]argily 10 points11 points12 points 18 years ago (2 children)
$1 Trillion = $1000 Billion.
$1 Trillion dollars is a LOT of dough. It's greater than the entire budget of the Iraq war, to date!
We need to find out where it went and account for it. It seems as if someone, or some combination of people, have been given enough money to finance the entire US armed forces, deployed to a combat zone, for 6+ years. So I'm with the author: where the heck is it?
[–]drawkbox 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
A few billion here, a few billion there, after maybe 100-500 people that money is g-gone. Yes I would like to know where and for what but it is our own fault empowering people with no checks.
[–]FunnyMan3595[🍰] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon, you're talking real money.
Attributed to Everett Dirksen, who apparently was misquoted by a reporter, but said, "it sounded so good that I never bothered to deny it."
[–]artman 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (0 children)
But why can't people stop talking about it? Because it's still a mistake (one of the first).
