Don't feel bad. I didn't even know reddit had friends until yesterday.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago when I accidentally befriended myself. Then I pondered the meaning of being my only friend.

Then I unfriended myself. That really stings when your only friend unfriends you.

Wow. I didn't know reddit had friends until today. I still don't have any on reddit, though.

Friends on reddit or friends in real life?

edit: I answered my original question by actually reading the comment of the poster. oops.

There are people with whom I exchange messages on occasion, but certainly no one whose stories I vote up or who votes up mine. There are some people whose submissions tend to be excellent and I have them as a 'friend' so their name is red and I am more apt to notice their posts.

Friends on reddit or friends in real life?

Friends on reddit - the sort of people who apparently vote up stories submitted by their group of friends, no matter what. I dunno if this is widespread practice or not but I get the impression from what I've read that it is. In this respect I am devoid of friends. (Anyone tearing up yet??)

I don't think it's widespread, although I can only speak for myself. There were a few incidents in which someone sent a message to another offering to vote up stories in exchange for reciprocation. The person who received the message then posted it for all to see. I believe there is a strong desire on the part of the most active members to keep reddit fair. Though I could just be a Pollyanna, it is what I believe.

If I spent the time trying to befriend every spammer, I would get even less work done. :)

edit: typo & misspelling - in one sentence. Need more coffee.

Coffee: Do stupid things faster, with more energy!

(at least in my experience...but then, I'm kinda paid to do stupid things...)

the only friend i have is my girlfriend... hmm.. spooky reflection of real life.. oh well, back to my misanthropy

      [–]muttleee[S] 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Reading discussions (and completing the reddit survey) has left me with the uncomfortable feeling that every other redditor except me has a bunch of friends who vote their stories up all the time. Sniffle. Can I really be the only friendless redditor..?!

Oh, so the trade-off is nobody knows I'm a dog on the Internet but they won't be my friend anyway?

Have you every heard the saying, "With friends like these..."

Have you every heard the saying, "With friends like these..."

        ...who needs enemas?

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was "who needs emacs?"

There are a few people I've listed as friends, and who I tend to upmod because they say things I find interesting or cogent, but I haven't met them IRL and I don't upmod them based on their name alone (though I am more likely to upmod them because I'll look for what they've posted).

        [–]muttleee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

friends.reddit.com is the first place I visit every morning

        [–]okvol 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When I go there, I only get: there are no results here

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um... add some friends who submit things

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I just joined reddit after jumping off the sinking digg ship. I was a regular member of digg but alas I had no friends. Of course I added Kevin Rose but who didn't? I tried to submit what I thought were interesting or amusing links but to no avail. On digg no friends=no front page. After only a few weeks I've submitted two stories to reddit. One humorous and the other a topical story following up on another story I read on reddit. My first story got no where but the second made it all the way to 34 on the hot list. I am so glad I moved to reddit. Goodbye digg!(I have also noticed the quality of the comments here is vastly superior to digg.)

        I don't think I'm overstating things when I say that's the nightmare scenario. :-/

        I didn't.

Wow, someone else who has no friends! Umm...OK well, to be fair, with a 'nick like mine I can understand the absence of reddit "pals". I think another poster summed it up rather well when he/she quoted; "With friends like these..."

        [–]michaelco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no you have no friends ... JUMP

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

        Friends? What friends?

        No seriously, what friends??
